Ferrari 246 GTS Dino (U.S. Version)
Chassis No. 04046 Body No. 1063
In order to honor the memory of his late son and continue his developmental work on a new V-6 engine, Enzo Ferrari directed Vittorio Jano to finish Dino's project. The Dino was not only Ferrari's first mid-engine production car, but also marked the debut of a new Ferrari-based Dino brand that was entirely devoid of Ferrari badging. With its powerful 2,418 cc engine, and a reported 146 mph top speed coupled with race-inspired handling, the Dino quickly impressed Ferrari fans. This particular 246 GTS, chassis no. 04046, is an introductory year example of the desirable Dino Spyder model; finished in its original color of Russo with black painted Targa top, brown leather upholstery and carpeting with factory A/C, electric windows and Michelin tires mounted on original Chromodora wheels. Accompanying the 246 is the original tool roll along with recent service records. Nicely presented as a strong and well suited fine driver example, the 246 displays nicely mellowed paint and upholstery, complimented by consistent body gaps and straight panel fitment. The cabin is very tidy, featuring power amenities, modern audio and factory suction visors. The mechanicals are what set this Dino apart from the others; the motor starts easily with no hesitation and no smoking and performs exceptionally well in all conditions. Driving this car leaves a lasting impression, and is easily one of the best driving examples we have every offered; acceleration is very strong and the reliability is assuring. All electrical components are in working order, including the lights, signals, wipers, instruments, clock and power windows. The mechanicals benefit from a major service performed in 2011 and the compression is excellent on all cylinders. The Dino was designed by PininFarina but the bodies were constructed by Carrozeria Scaglietti. Since these where hand built cars, Scaglietti issued a body number to identify each car, which was crucial during the assembly process. The number 1063 is found on both door jamb kick plates, both chrome trim pieces found on the inner leading edge of the doors and on the expansion tank mounting tab. Dinos have developed into highly sought-after
investments and continue to increase in collectability. Here is an opportunity
to acquire an honest U.S. specification GTS (1 of 280 examples), available to thoroughly enjoy right out of the
box.
We hunt for Dinos every day and they are rapidly becoming scarce - This one will
not last long.

LaFerrari testing with turbo V6 F1 engine?
Mon, 02 Dec 2013If Ford went and tested a NASCAR engine in a production Ford Fusion, it'd just be silly. Ferrari testing its new 1.6-liter, turbocharged V6 Formula One engine in a LaFerrari hypercar is not silly - it's excellent.
Now, we can't be certain if the video shown above is actually Ferrari's new F1 powerplant. Based on the big roof-mounted intake, the weird sounds coming from the camo'd LaFerrari and the teasers we've been hearing from other F1 engine providers, the race engine is a tantalizing idea.
The other possibility, perpetuated by our friends over at Road & Track, is that Ferrari is using the LaFerrari to test a next-generation powerplant. That looks good on paper, but this car strikes as being far too loud for any road legal engine. What do you think? What's Ferrari up to at Fiorano? Scroll down for the video and then let us know in Comments.
Ferrari 212 Barchetta highlights RM auction at Villa d'Este
Tue, May 26 2015While show-goers sip champagne and basque in the glow of some of the most beautiful classics and most notable concept cars at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, at the Villa Erba just down the shore, collectors bid on some of the most tempting automotive creations. And this year was no exception. Highlighting RM Sotheby's auction this year was a rare classic 1952 Ferrari 212 Export Barchetta. The Touring-bodied competition roadster from Ferrari's early days fetched an incredible 6,720,000 Β nearly $7.4 million at current exchange rates Β to set a new record for that model. According to Sports Car Market, the previous record was held by a 212 Export coupe that sold for $3.2 million early last year. A Barchetta failed to sell for a high bid of $1.97 million in 2008, which just goes to show how far this auction raised the bar for the 212. Though it was by far the top lot of the day, it wasn't the only million-dollar sale of the day. Heck, it wasn't even the only million-dollar Ferrari sold. A quartet of Ferrari supercars Β including a 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo Β each fetched seven figures, as did a 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso and a 250 GT Cabriolet. So did a Lamborghini Miura, a '73 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and a '53 Fiat 8V Cabriolet, if you can believe it. Other notable lots included a 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Villa d'Este Coupe, a '74 Lancia Stratos and a rare stick-shift Ferrari 599 HGTE. All told, RM Sotheby's racked up nearly $30 million in sales at its first European auction since merging and rebranding, selling 34 out of the 39 lots consigned, but that stunning 250 California Spider did not appear to be among them.
Ford GT40 makes historic return to racing at Goodwood
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Is there a more iconic, American racecar than the Ford GT40? That may be a discussion for another day (although by all means, tell us how wrong we are in Comments), but this video of heaps of GT40s running in the Goodwood Revival races certainly has us thinking that Ford's Ferrari-killer might just be the best racer the Land Of The Free and Home Of The Brave has ever come up with.
That's completely ignoring the fact that the GT40 was largely developed by Brits using American money, but that's besides the point (there was also a rather brash Texan, who had a big role later in development). The resulting vehicle was dominant, besting the cars of Il Commendatore from 1966 to 1969, although it should be noted that Ford's GT40 was unable to beat Ferrari in its first two Le Mans outings in 1964 and 1965.
Those four years of dominance, which started with Ford sweeping the podium, were enough to establish the GT40's legend. And now, here we are almost 50 years later, celebrating the mid-engined monsters at Goodwood, in their first ever one-make race. Take a look below for the entire video.
