1972 Ferrari 246 GTS Dino (U.S. Version)

Chassis No. 04046

Body No. 1063

  •        First Year Production GTS – 1 of 280 Spyders
  •        U.S. Specification Example in original Paint Color
  •        Incredibly Strong Performing Driver – Excellent Compression
  •        Offered with Factory Tool Roll and Service Records
  •        Long-Term Previous Ownership and 46,000 Original Miles

In order to honor the memory of his late son and continue his developmental work on a new V-6 engine, Enzo Ferrari directed Vittorio Jano to finish Dino's project. The Dino was not only Ferrari's first mid-engine production car, but also marked the debut of a new Ferrari-based Dino brand that was entirely devoid of Ferrari badging. With its powerful 2,418 cc engine, and a reported 146 mph top speed coupled with race-inspired handling, the Dino quickly impressed Ferrari fans.

This particular 246 GTS, chassis no. 04046, is an introductory year example of the desirable Dino Spyder model; finished in its original color of Russo with black painted Targa top, brown leather upholstery and carpeting with factory A/C, electric windows and Michelin tires mounted on original Chromodora wheels. Accompanying the 246 is the original tool roll along with recent service records.

Nicely presented as a strong and well suited fine “driver” example, the 246 displays nicely mellowed paint and upholstery, complimented by consistent body gaps and straight panel fitment. The cabin is very tidy, featuring power amenities, modern audio and factory suction visors. The mechanicals are what set this Dino apart from the others; the motor starts easily with no hesitation and no smoking and performs exceptionally well in all conditions. Driving this car leaves a lasting impression, and is easily one of the best driving examples we have every offered; acceleration is very strong and the reliability is assuring.  All electrical components are in working order, including the lights, signals, wipers, instruments, clock and power windows. The mechanicals benefit from a major service performed in 2011 and the compression is excellent on all cylinders.

The Dino was designed by PininFarina but the bodies were constructed by Carrozeria Scaglietti. Since these where hand built cars, Scaglietti issued a body number to identify each car, which was crucial during the assembly process. The number “1063” is found on both door jamb kick plates, both chrome trim pieces found on the inner leading edge of the doors and on the expansion tank mounting tab.

Dino’s have developed into highly sought-after investments and continue to increase in collectability. Here is an opportunity to acquire an honest U.S. specification GTS (1 of 280 examples), available to thoroughly enjoy right out of the box. We hunt for Dino’s every day and they are rapidly becoming scarce - This one will not last long.

F1 2013 Classic Edition to make Lauda's 1976 Ferrari playable

Fri, 13 Sep 2013

We'll cop to the fact that we might be a bit overly excited about the upcoming F1 2013 video game, specifically the Classic Edition. Codemasters has released umpteen trailers for the title already, mostly pretty cool ones, with cars lapping classic Formula One tracks that are set to be included in the fun.
With that said, this very latest historic addition to F1 2013 is pretty worthwhile, we think. Doing a kind of double promotion with Ron Howard's upcoming film Rush (which you all know by know to be the story of Niki Lauda, James Hunt and the chase for the 1976 F1 Championship), Codemasters is making the 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 a playable car in its new game. That's right, you can now walk in Lauda's racing boots, without all the painful crashing and superhuman recovery bother. Watch the video trailer below.

Ferrari planning special Schumacher tribute to mark injured racer's 45th birthday

Thu, 02 Jan 2014

Michael Schumacher may have completed his Formula One career with Mercedes-Benz, but the German racer will forever be associated with the Scuderia Ferrari, where he spent the better part of a decade winning just about everything. And as the seven-time World Champion continues to fight for his life following a skiing accident, the Tifosi are in the midst of organizing to pay tribute to one of their greatest heroes as his 45th birthday approaches.
According to the Scuderia's Facebook page, it's calling on Scuderia Ferrari Clubs from across Europe to show up at the Grenoble Hospital where Schumacher is being treated for a "silent and respectful" event to honor the injured champion, whose birthday is tomorrow. There's also a tribute being run on the Scuderia's website passing along the team's thoughts as Schumacher tries to recover from his injury.
The latest reports on Schumacher indicate that his condition continues to be stable, but he remains in a medically induced coma. News of the circumstances surrounding his ski mishap continue to trickle out, with the latest report from The Mirror heartbreakingly suggesting that Schumacher was actually attempting to help a friend's daughter who had fallen herself when he had his own tumble.

Ferrari launches 2014 Formula One engine, tests it in a LaFerrari? [w/videos]

Mon, 23 Dec 2013

Ferrari is the last of the three engine manufacturers remaining in Formula One to reveal its 2014 power unit. Called the 059/3, like the Mercedes and Renault units it is a turbocharged, 1.6-liter V6 further boosted by an energy recovery system that is twice as powerful as before. The 2013 KERS was good for 80 horsepower, could power the car for six seconds and reduce a lap time by about 0.3 seconds. For 2014, the energy recovery system puts out 160 hp, powers the car for 30 seconds on full batteries and, according to Ferrari, can shave a massive three seconds per lap.
The car that surrounds this engine doesn't have a name yet - that will be chosen by Ferrari's social media followers in January from a selection of names provided by the Scuderia.
Ferrari didn't provide an audio sample of the power unit at its introduction, but a brief video taken at Fiorano has led folks to believe that the team has been testing the engine in a revised LaFerrari chassis. The clip shows a camouflaged version of the marque's new supercar fitted with a roof intake and sounding nothing at all like a V12 as it takes the hairpin and powers onto the straight.
