2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Base Coupe 2-door 5.7l on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
Known as the gentleman's Ferrari, the 612 is a modern GT car with 4 usable seats in a grand touring class car. The Ferrari 612 is based upon a custom car commissioned by Roberto Rossellini for Ingrid Bergman, the 375 MM. The color was a custom color for Ms. Bergman - "Grigio Ingrid." The new 612 is called the Scaglietti after Sergio Scaglietti who was known as the master of aluminum built the Ferrari grail, the 250 GTO. This car is in Grigio Ingrid with Nero Daytona seats. It was originally purchased at Cauley Ferrari in West Bloomfield, where I purchased it later as a CPO car. I am the second owner. The car was CPO which means Cauley Ferrari put the car through the Ferrari multipoint inspection and then extended the warranty to me as the new buyer. Since then, it has been dealer maintained at the Auto Gallery Woodland Hills who, until recently, were the Ferrari authorized service in my area. (They just decided to give up their Ferrari dealership in favor of Maseratti a couple of months ago. Everything is up to date, with the car's last major service December of 2013. The belts were last changed January 2011 and according to my Ferrari maintenance book are due in 5 years or 30,000 miles since the last change. This car needs nothing and has been extremely well maintained. The paint was just cleaned and treated with Opti coat for a super deep shine and added clear coat protection. http://www.opti-coat.com There is very little wear on the interior, most of it looks new. All leather has been treated and has no major flaws. There are no scratches or dings on the entire car. The only sign that the car is not new are a few road chips to the front bumper as well as a few minor road chips on the front wheels. The factory covers, manuals, battery tender, and accessories are included. An aftermarket outdoor cover as well as a dealer installed aftermarket tender is also included. There have been no aftermarket changes to the car except for the battery tender which can easily be reversed. Clutch is 83% life remaining Front Brakes are 8mm remaining Rear Brakes are 7mm remaining. Annual service, brake fluid replacement and power steering service were completed at the last service in December. Next week I am installing brand new Michelin Pilot Super Sports, so this car will come with new tires. Ask around and you will find that most Ferrari enthusiasts think these are the ultimate tires for the 612 or 550. I have taken this car to a couple of dealers as a trade on a new Ferrari I am purchasing. They both have offered a wholesale price for the car. The reserve price for this auction is at their highest offer, so anyone who purchases the car at reserve will buy the car at the current wholesale market value. There are no sticky interior parts, and there is no leather shrinkage of the dash. This car is for sale locally, I may end the auction early if it sells locally before the auction ends. The car is available for local inspection in Encino, CA Title is in hand, there is no lein on the car. Shipping is at the buyers expense. There is a picture of the original car commissioned by Rossellini. You can read more about it here: mycarquest.com/2013/09/a-custom-ferrari-and-the-movie-star.htm> This car was also recently used in a photo shoot for Gold Magazine Japan www.gold-web.jp> - July 7 2014 issue. Picture attached. A picture of the CPO Report Compression test is attached. - All 12 cylinders are perfect. |

2015 Japanese Grand Prix is a little Mercedes, a lot of zen
Mon, Sep 28 2015Just one week on from the issues in Singapore Mercedes-AMG Petronas appeared to have solved its clamp problems and everything else. Daniil Kvyat at Infiniti Red Bull Racing took the two Free Practice scalps on Friday, but when it came time for qualifying the front of the grid looked really familiar: Mercedes' Nico Rosberg took his second pole position of the season, Lewis Hamilton next to him in second. Kvyat had a hand in that, too, the Russian getting into a big accident in Q3 when he put two wheels on the grass heading into the hairpin and veered into the tire wall so hard that he flipped. That ended qualifying before a number of drivers had a chance to improve their times, Hamilton among them. That's how Valtteri Bottas got in third for Willliams ahead of Sebastian Vettel fourth for Ferrari. Felipe Massa had the second Williams in fifth, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari. Daniel Ricciardo lined up sixth for Infiniti Red Bull Racing, a team we're going to have to enjoy watching for the rest of the season since it might not exist come 2016. Romain Grosjean gave Lotus some good news by getting into eighth, the team so strapped for cash that it couldn't get into its hospitality area, so it held press conferences outside and ate at Bernie Ecclestone's Paddock Club. Sergio Perez took ninth for Sahara Force India, and Kvyat slotted into tenth after not setting a time. The Russsian's race would begin from the pit lane once his mechanics rebuilt his car. It wouldn't be a Formula One start lately without someone at the front having clutch problems. This time it was pole man Rosberg, whose power unit got too hot and put him a few horsepower down on Hamilton through Turns 1 and 2. That's half of how Hamilton took the lead from the lights going out, and the Brit kept it throughout the race. Rosberg, however, said his race was lost when Hamilton pushed him wide through Turn 2, a move Hamilton defended. Rosberg finished almost 19 seconds behind his teammate, a gap that probably isn't fully explained by that opening incident. Hamilton's race was so uneventful that we almost never saw him on camera – that is, we saw him so much less than we usually see him when he's out in front and unpressured that Nikki Lauda said he'd ask Ecclestone why the cameras avoided him. The conspiracy theory holds that FOM was punishing Mercedes for not supplying Red Bull with engines next year.
James May's Ferrari 488 GTB road test makes us miss Top Gear
Thu, Jun 11 2015Whoever the BBC lines up for the next iteration of Top Gear, the reality with which we're coming to grips is that the show will likely never be the same. The question is whether the departing hosts will ever be the same without each other, and without the show that brought them together. This clip could go a long way towards answering that question, though. In this video review for the Driving section of the Sunday Times, James May joined the gaggles of gathering journalists in Maranello to check out the new Ferrari 488 GTB. And suffice it to say, it's not quite as entertaining (or even as well-informed) as most of the segments in which we've grown accustomed to seeing Captain Slow driving fast cars. James does have some rather relevant experience he might have imparted, though, seeing as how he didn't just drive the ultimate version of the preceding model – he went out and bought himself a 458 Speciale shortly before losing his job. So with GBP200k of car payments to make, we're hardly surprised to see him fronting for another operation. Whether it's worthy of him or not, you'll want to watch the clip to decide for yourself.
Celebrating the Ferrari F40 and the man who raced it
Mon, 07 Jul 2014The Ferrari F40 has become one of the iconic cars of the last 50 years. It presaged the supercars of the future with its extensive use of carbon fiber and turbocharged engine, but it was also old school with no traction control, stability control or even anti-lock supervision to save the driver if they got in over their head. In its latest video, XCar Films takes a look at the F40 through the lens of a man in the UK who specializes in keeping them on the road and occasionally races these quintessential sports cars.
John Pogson has spent his entire life surrounded by engines. His father was a transport manager for a trucking company and he used to accompany him out on repairs. When he was old enough, John started repairing vehicles at a Lancia dealer, and from there, he started working for Ferrari. Eventually, he saved up enough money to open his own, independent Italian car garage. His new business proved successful, and Pogson's customers started asking him to race their Ferraris, including the F40 - something he did with great success. How could you say no to that opportunity?
While Italian cars are his specialty, Pogson also has a soft spot for all performance cars. The video shows him driving his AC Cobra with a claimed 600 horsepower and doing some smoky donuts in it. Scroll down to learn more about the F40 from one of the people that knows it best.
