Ferrari 365 GTB/4 brings joy to both father and son

In addition to wonderful cinematography and a keen eye for style, Petrolicious has a knack for showing that cars can bring families together. Whether Nissan fans, classic rally racers or a trio of BMW 5 Series drivers, the series often proves that automobiles can have meaning beyond just as a heap of mechanical parts. The latest video keeps that theme going with a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona that connects a father and son. Matthew Lange's dad bought his Daytona in 1974 as a company car and certainly didn't let it waste away in the garage. His father put over 30,000 miles on the Pininfarina-designed coupe in just the first few years. Then, when Matthew turned 30, his dad gave him the Ferrari to enjoy. Today, it still gets used regularly and is likely going to the next generation of the family eventually. Even if the father/son story doesn't grab you, there are few things in the automotive pantheon that sound better than a V12 Ferrari. F1 2013 Classic Edition to make Lauda's 1976 Ferrari playable

We'll cop to the fact that we might be a bit overly excited about the upcoming F1 2013 video game, specifically the Classic Edition. Codemasters has released umpteen trailers for the title already, mostly pretty cool ones, with cars lapping classic Formula One tracks that are set to be included in the fun.
With that said, this very latest historic addition to F1 2013 is pretty worthwhile, we think. Doing a kind of double promotion with Ron Howard's upcoming film Rush (which you all know by know to be the story of Niki Lauda, James Hunt and the chase for the 1976 F1 Championship), Codemasters is making the 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 a playable car in its new game. That's right, you can now walk in Lauda's racing boots, without all the painful crashing and superhuman recovery bother. Watch the video trailer below.

Apple CarPlay drawing early safety concerns [w/video]

Apple's CarPlay infotainment system hasn't made it into a single vehicle yet, and it's already drawing criticism for distracting drivers among safety advocates. The new tech unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show pairs users' iPhones with the car's dashboard display to make calls, dictate messages and listen to music. Some automakers, like Volvo, also let users interact with the HVAC system from the screen.
"The idea that people want to be on their phones, and therefore let's give them a way to do that -- that's not putting safety first, that's putting convenience and the desire to be in touch first," said Bruce Hamilton, manager of research and communications at the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, to CNN Money.
Distracted driving is a huge concern on modern roads with more vehicles allowing drivers to use their smartphones through Bluetooth and infotainment systems. A Texas A&M study found that drivers' reaction time doubled while dictating text messages, according to CNN Money. The new tech is certainly not making drivers pay more attention.
