Ferrari F360 Modena Challenge
MFY: 2001
Engine: F131B
Assembly #: 39674
Price: $95.000.

Fans of the Ferrari brand will know the Ferrari 360MC (Modena Challenge) is an extensively reworked, non-road legal version of the 360 Modena Road Car.  It was originally produced to compete in the Ferrari Challenge Racing Series.  The 360 MC is a fully factory built affair which afforded the Ferrari engineers the chance to maximize weight reduction, converting the road car into a viable circuit racing machine.

A huge attention to detail ensures this car is drastically stripped of unnecessary weight over the road ready version and appropriate safety equipment such as a carbon fiber racing seat, FIA approved restraint harnesses, a roll cage and an OMP fire suppression system with inboard controls have been incorporated.  The fully stripped out interior and bare carbon detailing ensure the car really does feel a world away from its luxurious road going brother. Race drivers will appreciate the Spartan but highly functional interior where unnecessary toys such as the sound system, electric windows, central locking, interior trim, airbags, air conditioning, hand brake and road seats are all removed in the name of reduced curb weight.

The suspension in the 360 MC was extensively revised and the electronic adaptive comfort system of the Modena was rejected for a traditional fixed damping setup, which is substantially stiffer and lower. Now while this does cut pitch and roll at the compromise of road car comfort, who really needs road car comfort in a dedicated racing car?  Thicker brakes designed to cope with the constant stress and strain of the track incorporate air cooling ducts to prevent overheating. And who can argue with the enhanced driving characteristics of an F1 gearbox? Although the 3.6 engine is broadly similar to the original, according to Ferrari the 360 MC can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. That’s a full 0.6 seconds quicker than the standard 360 Modena F1.

It’s inspiring what good old-fashioned weight reduction and an improved power-to-weight ratio can accomplish.

Here are the official performance figures for this 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge (TRACK), Red with Red interior, Stock number 39674

Sebastian Vettel to leave Infiniti Red Bull at end of 2014

Sat, 04 Oct 2014

Things are going to look very different in the Formula 1 paddock come 2015. Official word came down from Infiniti Red Bull Racing that Sebastian Vettel, who won four driver's titles while with the energy-infused fizzy drink and marketing company, will be leaving the team after the 2014 season comes to an end. Taking Vettel's well-worn seat at Red Bull will be Daniil Kvyat, who will join Daniel Ricciardo for 2015. Feel free to read that official announcement below.
While no official announcement has yet been made, rumors swirl that Sebastian Vettel will drive for Ferrari in 2015, taking the place of Fernando Alonso, who many believe will end up at McLaren, which itself is in line for a major driver and team shakeup next year as it switches to Honda power. It's not clear where the rest of the current crop of F1 drivers will land, but as this first blockbuster domino falls into place, expect the rest to fall in line in the coming weeks and months.

LaFerrari for sale in Florida for $4.7 million

Tue, Feb 16 2016

Want to get your hands on a new LaFerrari? It's gonna cost you, and cost you big. The factory charged $1.35 million for each of the 499 it will ever make, but you can bet speculators will be selling them for much more than that. Just take a look at this listing from Florida. The Fort Lauderdale Collection South has one LaFerrari for sale with an asking price of $4.7 million. That's more than triple what Ferrari charged for it. The example in question bears the VIN ZFF76ZFA2E0205216 and appears to have been built for the US market in September 2014. It's done up in the classic combination of Rosso Corsa over a black interior and has just 388 miles on the odometer. It has a few options installed, including carbon-fiber side mirrors, a sports exhaust, and Prancing Horse logos embroidered into the headrests. Each of those options is worth a good grand or two on top of the list price, but their addition doesn't go very far toward explaining the enormous markup. With no other examples of LaFerrari having been sold at auction just yet, we don't have much of an indication of how much they're worth on the open market. According to Sports Car Market, the most anyone paid for the previous Enzo was just over $6 million this past August at the RM Sotheby's sale in Monterey, but that was the final example of the breed that was gifted to Pope John Paul II. Most of the rest have sold for a million or two – not over four. Ferrari 458 Speciale speeds toward Frankfurt

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

When the doors open at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few weeks, there'll be loads of new cars and new versions of existing ones. And as far as the latter category goes at least, this will undoubtedly be what show-goers will look forward to most.
What we have here is the Ferrari 458 Speciale - the successor to the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia, and the hard-core version of the 458 Italia. It was expected to carry the name Monte Carlo, but then Ferrari has never been fond of letting the press dictate what it would call its cars. But forget the nameplate: what really matters is what it's got to offer.
For starters, the award-winning, high-revving 4.5-liter V8 has been retuned to deliver 605 cv (596 hp by our standards), up from 562 hp in the standard 458, while torque remains the same at 398 lb-ft. But the other side of the power-to-weight ratio (quoted at 2.13 kg/cv) is the extra mass Ferrari has cut out of the equation: the 458 Speciale's dry weight is quoted at 1,290 kg (2,844 lbs), representing a significant drop from the 458 Italia's 1,485 kg (3,274 lb) curb weight.
