1997 Ferrari 355 Spyder six speed in very rare Canna di Fucile

Pininfarina sculpture plus wind-tunnel developed function equal one of the prettiest of modern Ferrari V8's.  And of course what a V8: its 3.5 litre five valve per cylinder, all aluminum even the con-rods and 11:1 compression make for glorious sound and performance.  The 355 Ferrari has a light and nimble feel that seems lacking in the newer Ferrari V8 cars.  That plus its simple lines make the 355 a wonderful drivers car.  This 24k mile Spyder wears a its very rare Canna di Fucile Metallic color extremely well.  Yes Ferrari's look good in red, but some models can be extraordinary and elegant in other shades and this is certainly one!

SF Bay Area from new, this 355 Spyder presents itself well; paint appears all original thus there are a few nose chips and minor blemishes, sides of the car are very nice as is hood and deck lid and rear.  The interior is lovely and seats are excellent but some evidence of dash leather shrinkage. Top is very good and toneau excellent.  Wheels very good with some very slight scrapes, tires are mid 4/32 wear.  Engine and bay is very tidy and clean and shows no evidence of any major leaking.  Partial manual set, full tool kit are with the car.  Thankfully, most of the switches and bezels have been changed out to remove the all too common "sticky."  The Ferrari drives very well, clutch take up is positive and immediate, steering tight and responsive, engine is smooth and revs wonderfully!  Brakes have slight squeak when cold but when warm are immediate.  Top actuates, as do al switches properly.  Major service is due but exhaust manifold and catalytic updates have already been done.  This is a lovely high level driver Ferrari that would take little to achieve a show level, plus its simply elegant in its attire.

Ferrari posts record profits on restricted volume

Wed, 19 Feb 2014

Most automakers are after one thing and one thing only: selling more cars. Because, after all, selling more cars means making more money. Right? Well that's usually the case, but Ferrari has taken a different approach. Rather than try and sell more cars, Ferrari intentionally sold fewer models in 2013, yet it made more money.
The move was implemented after 2012 emerged as the strongest year in the company's history. Instead of pushing to sell even more cars, it opted to maintain a level of exclusivity by selling fewer - 5.4 percent fewer than the year before, to be specific - thereby ensuring that those it did sell were worth more. As a result, in 2013, Ferrari logged record turnover, profits and finances: on 2.3-billion euros of revenue (up 5 percent from the previous year), Ferrari recorded 363.5 million euros in profit last year - that's roughly $500M USD.
Before you go jumping to conclusions, though, bear a few factors in mind. For one, Ferrari's stakeholders aren't pocketing all that cash - they're reinvesting it into the company: over the course of the same year, Ferrari invested some 337 million euros - 464 million dollars - in research and development. And while the company's extensive merchandizing efforts continue to bring in more cash, at 54 million euros ($74M) raised last year, the branding operation still doesn't account for a sixth of overall revenues. Still, it's little wonder that the experts at Brand Finance have named Ferrari the world's most powerful brand for the second year running.

Celebrating the Ferrari F40 and the man who raced it

Mon, 07 Jul 2014

The Ferrari F40 has become one of the iconic cars of the last 50 years. It presaged the supercars of the future with its extensive use of carbon fiber and turbocharged engine, but it was also old school with no traction control, stability control or even anti-lock supervision to save the driver if they got in over their head. In its latest video, XCar Films takes a look at the F40 through the lens of a man in the UK who specializes in keeping them on the road and occasionally races these quintessential sports cars.
John Pogson has spent his entire life surrounded by engines. His father was a transport manager for a trucking company and he used to accompany him out on repairs. When he was old enough, John started repairing vehicles at a Lancia dealer, and from there, he started working for Ferrari. Eventually, he saved up enough money to open his own, independent Italian car garage. His new business proved successful, and Pogson's customers started asking him to race their Ferraris, including the F40 - something he did with great success. How could you say no to that opportunity?
While Italian cars are his specialty, Pogson also has a soft spot for all performance cars. The video shows him driving his AC Cobra with a claimed 600 horsepower and doing some smoky donuts in it. Scroll down to learn more about the F40 from one of the people that knows it best.

Race Recap: Brazil ends the 2013 F1 season with whimpers, bangs [spoilers]

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

When the grid lined up at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Brazil there were just 71 laps, almost 306 kilometers, until the end of the 2013 season. Sometimes the circuit in Interlagos is deciding a Championship winner or showcasing new talent, and sometimes it's merely deciding a winner. This year was the latter.
2013 World Champion Sebastian Vettel in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing lined up in front of Nico Rosberg in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Fernando Alonso in the first Ferrari, Mark Webber in the second Red Bull and his final Formula One race, Lewis Hamilton in the second Mercedes, Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, Daniel Ricciardo in the first Toro Rosso and his final race for the team before moving to Red Bull, his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne, Felipe Massa in the second Ferrari and Nico Hülkenberg in the Sauber.
There were numerous theories about what surprises might occur, with race day being the first dry running of the weekend and rain predicted to fall at some point during the running. The first surprise came when the lights went out and Vettel, the consummate starter, got beat to the first corner.
