The Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 2+2 unveiled at the 1973 Paris Auto Show was a stunning departure. The name had become so closely associated with Pininfarina’s curvaceous 246 that this new angular shape by Bertone -- which hadn’t done a Ferrari body in years -- was shocking in comparison, add to that the presence of Ferrari’s first production V-8, the fact that this was the marque’s first mid engine 2+2. This Dino pointed Ferrari in a new direction, a departure enhanced by the 308 label, it identified Ferrari’s new 3.0-liter V-8, which mounted transversely behind the small rear seats. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you that the cars that sported the prancing horse are hand-assembled, high strung exotics, with sophisticated mechanicals. This is a very limited production car, from 1973 to 1980 only 2826 units were built, we have just acquired one for sale. This is a very clean correct example of a PRE-SMOG 1975 308 GT4 2+2, only 3 owners and only 74,000 miles. It is finished in Graphite Gray with Black interior. There were no options they all were equipped the same. There is nothing like the sound of a V8 Ferrari running wide open threw the turns on Hwy 17. #10940. Petrolicious documents the motorsport-changing Ferrari 512M
Wed, 15 Oct 2014Petrolicious has had plenty of beautiful cars and big-time personalities in its videos, but today's interview is sees one of the series' most well known subjects - US Formula 1 commentator David Hobbs.
Hobbs is an accomplished racer, capturing a number of podiums and a pair of class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in addition to short stints in F1 and at the Indianapolis 500. One of his Le Mans runs was behind the wheel of this, the Ferrari 512M, a car that's notable for two things - running a 1971 season that included the 24 Hours of Daytona, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and Watkins Glen 6 Hour races. The other thing it's known for? Failing to win a single one of those enduros.
Still, the Ferrari 512 is one of the Italian marques most iconic 1970s racers and Hobbs' example is a proud member of that breed, delivering a delicious 5.0-liter V12 exhaust note that makes this an easy video to sit through.
Ferrari launches F14 T and yet another Formula One nose
Mon, 27 Jan 2014Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo said of the 2014 Formula One season, "It's time to win." This is the chassis that's meant to do it, and it is also Exhibit C in this wild, function-over-form F1 pre-season: the Ferrari F14 T. The low, trunk-like snout is another imagining of the year's regulations, after the probing proboscides found on the McLaren and in the image of the coming Williams. The public name of the chassis internally called 665 was chosen by Ferrari's social media fans, F14 T referring to the brand, the year and the turbocharged powerplant, not the McDonnell-Douglas F14 Tomcat.
The 60th Ferrari to contest an F1 season, it keeps the pull-rod front and rear suspensions of cars from the last two years but little else. The narrower front wing, having to package and cool the additional power unit equipment, reworking the rear wing and even moving to brake-by-wire has changed every other aspect of the car.
Fernando Alonso is hoping the F14 T will make the fifth time the charm; in his fifth year with the team, he wants to win the championship this year instead of coming in second again, just like Michael Schumacher won his first title with Ferrari after five years with the team. Our guess is that Kimi Räikkönen has no opinion on anything other than winning races and getting paid for it. First Ferrari 458 Speciale A sells for $900k in Beverly Hills
Mon, 13 Oct 2014The prospect of buying a new Ferrari convertible is by no means an affordable one, but prices can vary greatly. The California T, for example, sells for under $200k. The 458 Spider fetches over $250k. The new F60 America is said to have sold out at around ten times that much. But what about the 458 Speciale A?
We may have yet to receive official pricing, but one customer has paid a whopping $900,000 for the privilege of owning the very first one. Ferrari 458 Speciale A #1/499 was auctioned off at Beverly Hills City Hall on the occasion of Ferrari's 60th anniversary in America. The event, where the F60 America was also unveiled, was held in the presence of Fiat chairman John Elkann, Fiat CEO and Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa and vice-chairman Piero Ferrari.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the American chapter of Daybreak, an Italian charity that has worked for the past 25 years to cure rare genetic diseases. The high bid tops that which recently won the first Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat - another extreme eight-cylinder performance machine from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles - although the Challenger itself sells for far less than any Ferrari does.
