1980 Ferrari 308 Gts on 2040-cars

I've decided to sell my 1980 Ferrari 308 GTS. I've owned it for ten years and put less than 300 miles a year on her. It has been in my enclosed garage with a car cover over her to keep the dust off the paint and only driven when the salt and gravel is off the roads in the spring , summer time and fall. As far as I know this car has had three owners. The first in California, the second in Flordia, then myself. The second owner let the car sit for over eight years and I had to replace all the belts and hoses as a result. I have recently done the 30K mile major service and have the paperwork. The 30k mile service was a replacement of all the belts and hoses, plugs, filters. The most important was the changing of the timing belt as well as the bearings on the timing belt pulleys. You do not want either of those two things to fail because the value of this car is in the motor. This car has been a pleasure to own once I got the bugs worked out from sitting so long. It's a pleasure to drive on a sunny day with the top off. The motor lopes at idle like a heavy cammed race car. It's exhaust note sings to you going down the road, I've never had the need to turn on the radio. The car has 23,930 miles currently, do the math it is a 1980! The tires are in good shape and the spare is the original. The paint is Ferrari Red, Rosso Corsa and shine like new. Since the 1920s Italian race cars of Ferrari and Abarth have been painted in rosso corsa ("racing red"). This was the customary national racing colour of Italy as recommended between the world wars by the organisations that later became the FIA. The paint is not perfect, but if it was you would worry about driving it rather than enjoying the ride. Nothing is bad about the paint, just small chips from normal driving. No one ever notices they are there but myself being the owner, I know they are there because I wash it by hand. The windows are slow to go up, but this is a problem on all 308s. The original leather seats were replaced by the second owner with Recaro racing seats of the time period. I wanted to replace them but the longer I owned my car, the more I liked them. The radio is an Alpine cassette player also from the same time period. The Pininfarina-styled 308 GTB was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1975. It was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti who had been responsible for some of Ferrari's most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. The 308 used elements of these shapes to create something very much in contrast with the angular GT4 2+2. The GTB/GTS was a 2-seater with sweeping curves and aggressive lines, and has become one of the more recognizable and iconic cars produced by Ferrari to date. The targa topped 308 GTS was introduced in 1977 and was made famous on the television series Magnum, P.I.. The lines are beautiful and is a rolling work of art. I look at the designs of the modern Ferraris and I can still see the styling influences from these 308s. The air intakes on the sides behind the doors are functional and forces cool air into the three liter eight cylinder engine. This is a high revving freewheeling motor that does not red line until almost eight grand. When you keep the RPMs up it produces lots of power. 1980 was the first year a Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection was used. 1979 and older 308s have weber carburetors that take constant tinkering to keep tuned. My car is a targa-topped Ferrari 308 GTS (“S” for spyder). This has a removable center roof section covered in black vinyl and used louvered panels in place of rear quarter windows. Horsepower of U.S. cars dropped to 205 because of ever-tighter emissions in the USA. The Ferrari 308, is immensely popular, it is a rare and beautiful car. It is as close to a work of art as any modern car can be. It is, after all, a Ferrari. The retired owner of the Ferrari dealership in Youngstown, Ohio helped me locate this car and buy it in Tampa, Flordia. He put my in touch with a guy in California that made me a new set of wheels for her. He was licensed to use the Ferrari logo on the wheels. The wheels on her now are the stock wheels, I have just never made the move to buy the new tires and change the wheels. The wheels for the back are a little bit wider so I could put a little wider tires on and then fit correctly. The wheels cost me over two thousand dollars, shipped at the time and are NOT included with this auction unless the buyer selects the buy it now option. I will however give the winner the chance of buying them first before I sell them outright. If I kept this car I would start redoing the leather inside. It is dirty and shows its age. Other than that I'm happy with her as she sits. I've been pricing these cars on EBay and I do not see them selling for less than 30K anymore. These cars just keep going up in value. Now is the time to buy, you will never be sorry you bought one. Just keep it in good shape and make money down the read while you enjoy the experience of owning a Ferrari. I will be sad to see her go, but I'm interested in other things now a days. I'm starting the auction for less than 30K, I will let you guys decide the value of this timeless classic. This car is available locally and I reserve the right to stop the auction at anytime. I will however not stop in auction if anyone bids. I prefer the winner to pick up the car in person, but will work with you if you prefer to have it shipped. A $500 dollar non refundable down payment will be required to be paid at the end of the auction by PayPal and the balance paid when picked up or shipped. I require the car to be picked up two weeks after the auction ends. I will work with you but will not get into storing the car for long periods of time. Please pay in cash, it's less of a problem that way. The title is clean, clear and in my hand. Good Luck in bidding on a super fun to drive Ferrari! |

Aston Martin hires Ferrari's 'key guys' to challenge 488 GTB
Fri, Oct 6 2017Aston Martin is wasting no time in its aggressive product rollout, and it's putting Ferrari and other supercar makers on notice. At the recent launch of the DB11 V8 in Catalonia, Spain, we caught up with Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer. The Aston chief gave us new details on plans for a mid-engine car to go up against the Ferrari 488 GTB, the McLaren 720S and the Lamborghini Huracan. Palmer says Aston has harnessed a great deal of learning from the $3 million Valkyrie hypercar and plans to apply that to its next mid-engine car, slated to land sometime in 2020 or so. As indicated in part of our conversation below, design plans for that car are developing quickly. Autoblog: You said there will be a forthcoming mid-engine sports car. I still think the Ferrari 488 GTB is one of the best I've driven. How do you compete with that? Andy Palmer: "Well, I agree with you. That's the best car in its segment. And we're going to take it on. And I realize the gravity of that statement, of what that means." AB: So how do you take on the 488 GTB? AP: "Well, to start with, you recruit from Ferrari the head of body structures, and the head of powertrains. I've now got three of Ferrari's key guys. And really, it's a big compliment to Ferrari. That's the defining car in its segment, and it's really, really good. And those three guys now work for me. And you combine those guys with Nick [Lines, chief planning officer, Aston Martin] and Marek [Reichman, chief creative officer, Aston Martin] who you know really well, and you create some great recipes. And now I've got a better understanding of what that car looks like." AB: How far along is that car? Is there a clay model already? AP: "Yeah, there's clay. There's actually eight quarter-scales. And there's one in particular that I'm leaning toward. We've got it pushed out; it's gone to a second studio in Milton Keynes. That studio is different from Gaydon. And I've got a pretty good idea of what the replacement for the 488 is going to be like as well. So, if we're going in that market, we need to be ahead of the 488. And there's no naivete about what that means." View 16 Photos One of the recruits Palmer is referring to is Max Szwaj, former head of innovation and body structures at Ferrari and Maserati. Szwaj has been named vice president and chief technical officer in his new role in Gaydon.
Ferrari California T gets sharper edge with Handling Speciale package
Fri, Jan 22 2016It's been about two years since Ferrari updated the California to T-spec with a 3.9-liter, flat-plane crank, twin-turbocharged engine, and we found it to be a suitable change – rewarding to drive, and compelling to experience. Now Ferrari has introduced a new handling option, which will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, which should add a sharper edge to the roadster. Like most handling packages, the springs and dampers get the most attention. The magnetorheological dampers fitted to the conventional California T get changes that increase their response time to changing road conditions. As before, damper settings are controlled via the steering wheel manettino, and the most aggressive change is to be found in the Sport setting. The front springs are stiffer – 16 percent up front, 19 percent in the rear – which will aid body control in all axes. Ferrari claims that, overall, the setup only marginally reduces the ride comfort. It'll take driving a Handling Speciale-equipped car to find out. The changes go beyond just handling hardware. Shifts are faster in Sport mode, both in automatic and manual modes, thanks to recalibrated transmission logic. Ferrari's engineers also found some additional corner exit speed by tweaking the F1-Trac stability control system's programming. The company claims this tweak also helps with acceleration on bumpy surfaces. Cosmetically, the California Ts with the Handling Speciale package will feature a matte grille, a rear diffuser with matte-painted fences, and matte black tailpipes. A special-edition plaque, located in the cabin, is also standard, Finally, in a very Italian move, the exhaust note has been recalibrated "to underline the performance gains." That is to say, if you don't happen to have a skidpad handy to do a direct measurement of the increase in cornering capability – which, it should be noted, Ferrari doesn't quantify – the sportier sound will serve as a psychological reminder. There's no claim that the new exhaust system changes the engine's output – cars so equipped make the same 553 hp at 7500 RPM as the model we tested back in 2014. Look for the Handling Speciale package to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Typhoon Jebi destroys 51 Ferraris at dealership in Japan
Tue, Sep 11 2018The strongest typhoon to hit Japan in a quarter-century destroyed an estimated $9 million worth of Ferraris at an authorized dealership on Rokko Island, an artificial island in the city of Kobe, after sending three feet of storm surge into the showroom. According to Yahoo Japan, the storm surge from Typhoon Jebi destroyed 51 of 53 new and used Ferraris housed at the dealership, including some that had already been purchased. Employees reportedly tried to cover the entrance with tarps and sandbags, to no avail. Salt water reportedly seeped into the engine bays, so the vehicles were trucked away to be scrapped. The dealership will reportedly look to insurance to recoup its losses. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Typhoon Jebi slammed into Japan's west coast Sept. 4 with winds as high as 135 mph, leaving at least 11 dead and hundreds injured. It forced the closure of Kansai International Airport for three days due to flooding and after a tanker smashed into a bridge connecting the island airport to the mainland, damaging the bridge's girders. Around 3,000 passengers had to spend the night at the airport. Separately, about 100 cars at a seaside dealership in Nishinomiya in Hyogo prefecture burned after their electrical systems shorted out from sea water, reports said. Related Video:
