All-disc antilock brakes are new for 2001 on Dodge’s high-performance, retro-styled RT/10 convertible. Dodge
also added Viper Race Yellow for 2001 so this vehicle will be perfect for the discerning collector. Because Vipers
still draw attention, despite being over 2 decades old, collector demand is a consideration when buying. More than
20,000 Vipers have been sold since the snorting rear-drive two-seater debuted as a 1992 model.
No other sports car on the market in 2001 was on par with the Viper, a throwback to the era of all-out muscle
machines, whose V-10 engine cranks out no less than 450 horsepower. In fact, no other production car used a V-10
engine in 2001. The engine catapults you from 0-60 in under 4 seconds and melts the ¼ mile in 12.2 seconds.
Exterior
Designed to bring back memories of the Shelby Cobras seen on American roads and racetracks back in the 1960s, the
Viper ranks as an exercise in excess but one that’s basically simple in styling. Both the convertible and coupe
share such design features as a bold crossbar grille, huge side scoops in the front fenders and a long, wide hood.
This vehicle has the optional removable hardtop, color matched of course. This viper rides on new 275/35ZR18 front
and even bigger 335/30ZR18 rear tires mounted on custom color matched Forgeline VR-1 Wheels.
Interior
Two occupants sit in low reclining custom Italian leather yellow interior with black contrast stitching and Viper
logos by a reputable Viper community interior maker. The seats are now adjustable, unlike previous model years.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, remote keyless entry, fog lights, a
theft-deterrent system, and power windows, locks and mirrors, overhead mesh storage pouches and a trunk light. The
vehicle has a professionally installed Alpine audio system with custom subwoofer in the factory location.
Under the Hood
A brawny 8.0-liter V-10 engine beneath the Viper’s hood puts out 450 hp and 490 pounds-feet of torque — the
kind of torque that seems ready to drag tree stumps out of the ground. It was the biggest, most powerful engine
offered in an American production automobile in 2001 and stands strong with production muscle cars even nearly 15
years later. A custom Borla exhaust is estimated to add approximately 20 HP bringing the total to a head smashing
470 HP. A six-speed-manual gearbox is the only available transmission.

NHTSA investigating Chrysler for airbags, ignition switches

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Chrysler is being targeted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a pair of actions that focus on over 1.2 million Jeeps, minivans and crossovers.
The first is a "preliminary investigation" that focuses on an airbag issue afflicting the Jeep Commander built in model years 2006 and 2007 and Grand Cherokee from 2005 to 2006. In total, 700,000 vehicles could potentially be affected. It's not entirely clear what the airbag issue is, with The Detroit Free Press simply stating that the restraint systems in the affected Jeeps may be "faulty."
The other investigation is what's called a "recall query" and it covers a problem that General Motors should be familiar with. In this case, there could be a problem with the ignition switches of 525,000 vehicles, ranging from 2008 to 2010 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, to the 2008 to 2010 Dodge Journey crossover. Again, it's not entirely clear what sort of behavior prompted the 32 complaints that NHTSA has received on these vehicles.

Dodge Viper returning to Le Mans this year?

Mon, Jan 5 2015

If you were among the fans disappointed by Chrysler's recent decision to end the Dodge Viper's racing program, we may have some good news for you, as the racing outfit behind the campaign is reportedly working to bring the American supercars back to Le Mans this year. That racing outfit is Riley Technologies, a constructor perhaps best known for its Daytona Prototypes, but it has also prepared its share of GT racers, too. Chrysler charged Riley with leading its racing program for the new Viper GTS-R, campaigned it in the United SportsCar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Auburn Hills made the unfortunate decision back in March to pull its Vipers out of Le Mans, and then in October to withdraw from the US series, as well, thereby effectively ending the program altogether. Disappointed though it surely was, Riley remains defiant. The North Carolina-based company is planning on taking the existing Vipers back to Le Mans on its own, with or without factory support. The Viper has, after all, proven a capable machine, having taken both the drivers' and teams' titles in the United SportsCar Championship this past season. "With Le Mans, every driver and every manufacturer needs to have their first trip there, and it isn't always what you want it to be, but we did show reliability and did have some pace," Bill Riley told Racer.com. "Since then, we've worked hard on the cars, they're now strong, front-running cars in the US, and we're working with the ACO on the BoP to make sure the cars are strong at Le Mans. They're super-reliable and fast, and we'd expect to be right in the mix with the other cars." Riley has kept the existing support staff in place, and once it secures its driver lineup and sponsors, chances look good that it could represent America well at Le Mans this year in either the GTE Pro or GTE Am class. Its predecessor did, after all, complete a three-year winning streak that saw it dominate the GTS class right up until its withdrawal in 2000.
