The Good:
It is really clean inside and out, runs great, and has a fairly new (June 2013-2014) Virginia safety inspection. I took it to my mechanic who services these vans for FedEx, and he said it looks great. FedEx gets 500,000 miles out of these vehicles, so there is a lot of life in it, and it is a strong solid van. I really like this van, and I kind of hate to get rid of it. It is a strong quiet ride, and comes with lots of extras not included in the pictures.  I have toolboxes and shelves that are in good shape, but I do not have them installed currently.  I will take pictures of the toolboxes if you want and send them to you, but it is a set of 3 units, bot sliding drawers and shelves, intended to be used inside a work van.  Installed, they take up most of one side of the van.  They are also loud when you are driving, which is why I took them out.  I also have a bench seat for three people that has never been used.  I will include it in you want it.  It is really clean, and comes with the brackets to install the seat.  Also comes with a trailer hitch and ball, although ball is not on hitch in pictures.

In addition, this van comes with the fancy Mercedes rims.  I hate to brag, but they really add a lot of the appearance of the van!

Currently, this has about 156500 miles on it, slightly less, but easily has many years and hundreds of thousands miles left if in it. This is powered by a very strong Mercedes 5-cylinder diesel engine. Even comes of a full tank of diesel! You won't find a nicer, cleaner Sprinter Van at this price.  I have insulated the walls and floor with closed cell insulation, to make it a nicer quieter ride.  Also, this will stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than a stock van.  Sometimes you see wool or cotton insulation (open cell insulation), but this absorbs water and the van rusts from the inside out.  Not going to happen to this one.  Traditionally, these vans also have some trouble with the factory seals on the high top roof, and start to leak water.  The seals don't do a great job of flexing when you are driving down the road and hit bumps.  This has been water proofed with 3M marine sealant, primed, painted, and clear coated, so you won't have to worry about this down the road.

This does run on biodiesel and normal diesel, and right now there is normal diesel in it.  That is all I have ever put in it.  My dream was to use this as part of a transportation company, and run it homemade biodiesel, therefore cutting way back on fuel costs, a major expenditure for a transportation business.  I acquired 40 some gallons of veggie oil, a bunch of supplies, a water heater for the oil, filters, etc. and realized that it is long and difficult process that I really didn't want to deal with.  I was also concerned about the legality of doing this as a business.  If you do it in your back yard, no one seems to care.  If you do this as a business, you might have to deal with transportation of hazardous materials, use of nasty chemicals, disposal of waste, etc.  Didn't want to get in legal trouble as a business.  I decided to keep on working at my job and not pursue this.  My loss, your gain.

The Bad:
There is a small hole in the drivers seat from getting in and out.  The paint is a little dinged up, but nothing out of the ordinary for a van from 2005.  Missing one rear mud flap.  The title says the listed mileage is not actual, but it is from the previous owner not knowing exactly how many miles were on it when he registered it.  He did not have the van with him, made a good guess, and said the mileage was an estimate, therefore not actual.  In reality, the mileage on the van is fully and totally correct, but I have not been able to get this off the title, but I have tried.  On the vehicle report, there is also something about a lien, but I have the title in hand, free and clear with no liens.  Just for your information, the three owners were as follows. 1. Mercedes dealer used this as a parts delivery vehicle for a bit, then sold it.  2. A solar company in VA used this as a work van, but they went out of business.  3. I bought it to use in starting a transportation company, but decided not to go this route.

What to use it for?

What a perfect vehicle for lots of different things.

Often people use them as work vans because they have so much room in them. Easily slide in 4x8 sheets and have lots of room left over. Haul 10, 12, and 14 foot lumber with no problem. Stand up and walk around in your van. Keep your tools dry, protected, and fully enclosed. This van even comes with a ladder rack installed and tool boxes that I don't have installed right now. Let me know if you want pictures with the toolboxes.

Sometimes people use these as Recreational Vehicles. This van is already insulated for a nice quiet ride, and it stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than a stock van. Heat and A/C are real strong. Easy conversion if you are interested. While there are no seats in it now, I do have a bench seat for three people that has never been used. I will include it with the van in you are interested.

These vans are also great for sports enthusiasts. For tailgating, this would be great. How many coolers, grills, food, and guys could you easily fit in here, all while staying out of the rain and keeping your supplies dry and protected. For motorcycle racing, store and transport your bike(s) and equipment in here, and you can sleep comfortably and save money on a hotel room. For scuba diving, have a van full of gear, plenty of room to change and sleep, and take people with you.

2013 Dodge Durango R/T

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

Not too long ago, Chevrolet got itself into some trouble by throwing the SS badge on just about everything it produced, so I've always been a little hesitant about the seemingly excessive use of the R/T nameplate on Dodge vehicles. For the 2013 model year, every model in Dodge's lineup has an R/T trim level from Dart all the way up to the Durango. Although the R/T name used to signified models made for road and track, I doubt anyone would be delusional enough to assume the Durango - and some of the other models wearing this badge - are suited for any sort of track duty.
Still, when this 2013 Dodge Durango R/T rolled up for me to drive for the week, I couldn't help but take in its big, mean and imposing stance. Sure, if I had my choice of buying any of the Dodge R/T products, the Charger and Challenger would be my top picks for sure, but it's easy to say that the Durango would be a close third - far above the R/T versions of the Avenger, Journey and Grand Caravan.

Dodge Charger to slim down and run turbo four in next generation

Tue, May 31 2016

The current Dodge Charger is getting long in the tooth. It was originally introduced in 2005 as a 2006 model. In car terms, that's an eternity, though it's been refreshed twice. Still, FCA US will keep the LX-generation car going, reportedly facelifting it one last time for 2019. After that, there are some bigger changes in store . Automotive News is reporting that the follower to the current LX Charger will lose almost 500 pounds and will once again offer a turbo four-cylinder. You might remember the front-wheel-drive four-banger Charger of the early '80s. The recharged sedan will be twin-turbo and it's going to use the 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine currently under development for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, AN says. The target weight for the future car is around 3,500 lbs, while the current car has a curb weight of nearly 4,000 lbs. Look for it to arrive in the early 2020s. The new platform will have a touch of Italian flair instead of the Daimler-Benz flavor embedded deep inside the LX cars. It will be built on an extended version of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia's "Giorgio" platform, according to AN. Dealers were already shown a styling-buck almost a year ago. Florida Highway Patrolman seen watching YouTube in traffic

Fri, Apr 8 2016

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating allegations of a trooper watching YouTube videos on his official in-car laptop while driving. Lee County Florida resident James Peebles caught the alleged offender during his morning commute in early April, NBC2 reported. After exiting I-75, Peebles said that the FHP cruiser rolled up next to him at a stop light where he could clearly see the trooper inside watching a car race on Youtube on an official FHP laptop. Peebles put his car in park and snapped a picture of the cruiser before continuing to work. Later that day, he posted the photo to Facebook where it quickly went viral. "It blew my mind," Peebles told NBC2. "Everybody's human though, so I do know that we all make mistakes." NBC2 contacted the FHP for a statement after speaking to Peebles. An FHP spokesperson told the station that troopers are allowed to use their laptops while driving squad cars when carrying out official duties such as "simple inquiries" and "reviewing the nature of incoming messages". Other Florida motorists, like Jim Kosmerick who was interviewed by NBC2 for this story, don't consider watching an old race on YouTube to be official FHP business. "It's not official business, there's no way you can convince me otherwise," said Kosmerick. The FHP says that they are now aware of this fast moving viral image, and that they are taking the issue very seriously. They state that an investigation into the matter is underway, and that troopers are expected to abide by department policy and lead by example.
