2003 Dodge/mercedes Sprinter 10 Passenger Van on 2040-cars
West Chicago, Illinois, United States
Up for bid is a 2003 Dodge Sprinter 10 passenger van that I purchased brand new in 2004. If you are familiar with sprinters, then you already know that these vans can go for 500,000 miles without major repairs. The fuel mileage can be over 24mpg if driven with restraint. I have absolutely loved owning this van. It is a pleasure to drive, and is the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned. There is 72" of headroom , so no more crouching down! With all seats in, it will haul 10 adults, and still have 2' of cargo space behind the last seat. With seats removed, you can lay a 4'x10' piece of plywood flat with the rear doors closed. I have persnally hauled a 5' x12' piece of particle bd. standing on edge with the rear doors closed(between the front seats). The volume is just amazing, and you will be instantly popular with family/friends who want to haul stuff. Many sprinters have been converted to haul lifts for wheelchairs, or configured for camping. The possibilities are endless. The mercedes diesel inline 5 cylinder turbocharged engine has plenty of power and gets very good fuel mileage. Later models have v6 engines that do not get as good of mileage. The 5 speed automatic transmission is perfect for this van. cruising on the highway, the overdrive 5th gear keeps the engine rpms low for good mileage. If you have never driven a diesel, you will be pleasantly surprised with how quiet the engine is and lack of smoke or stink. The bad news: The only complaint I have with the sprinter van is the paint/sheet metal. The factory paint leaves a lot to be desired, and the sheet metal is prone to rust. I actually had the right rear door replaced under warranty for rust perforation. The body has been subjected to minor dents and dings, but the rust spots are the most annoying. I have tried to capture all of the main rust spots with the photos. I think you can get a pretty good idea of the condition of the body. You are welcome to come inspect and test drive before bidding. I also had some monor roof leaks, which I have not addressed, but should be pretty easy to seal up. There is a very small exhaust leak in the exhaust pipe which should be pretty easy to fix. factory options: Rear Air condintioning/cooling group, premium adjustable driver and passenger seats, cruise control, power windows, power locks, heated outside mirrors, facory blind spot mirrors, rear defroster, espar diesel fired hydronic heater. personal upgrades: passenger side color coded steps, rear view camera, class iv trailer hitch, polished stainless steel bull bar, mercedes grill/ badging, front seat swivels, turbo boost guage, HID headlights, HD radio/cd player, carpathian burlwood door panels, Mercedes G-wagon aluminum wheels, tires. warranty work: High pressure fuel injection pump replaced, egr valve replaced, intake manifold replaced under factory recall, rear passenger door replaced under warranty. recent(within the last 2 months) service: Front and rear brand new brake rotors and pads new battery new alternator-150 amp a/c recharge transmission service including new fluid/filter, replaced conductor plate, replaced electric connector/seals(known to leak) VAN IS SOLD AS IS WHERE IS, NO WARRANTY, NO RETURNS. van is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to cancel sale at any time. |

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns
Thu, 16 Oct 2014Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.
Hypermiling a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to 38.1 mpg
Fri, May 9 2014You never quite know what Wayne Gerdes has up his sleeve. The man who coined the term hypermiling is always looking for adventurous ways to prove that anyone – even you... yes, you – can eke out more miles per gallon just by changing the way you drive. Saying that is easy. Proving it by going on outlandish cross-country drives is hard. But for Gerdes and his team of fuel economy fiends over at CleanMPG, hard is half the fun. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. Which is why we always answer the phone when Gerdes calls. He likes to take journalists along on his drives, not only to try teach us how to hypermile but also to prove that we can be taught. The first time I 'helped' him and his team was when we got over 30 miles per gallon in a 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. The EPA rated that truck with at just 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. So, we'll count that trip as a success. Next up was a cross-country drive last fall in a trio of Audi TDI vehicles to prove that you don't need to drive extra slow to beat the EPA numbers. In fact, we made it from Los Angeles to New York City in just over 46 hours, cramped but not cranky. We had once again proven that how you drive is hugely important to your fuel usage. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. The EPA says that the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel we would be driving gets just 22 combined mpg (19 city and 27 highway). Gerdes' idea was to drive it as far north from Houston, TX towards Detroit, MI as we could go on one tank. The day before we left, our itinerary got an extra stop. Instead of taking one of the official Shell Eco-marathon prototype vehicles to Detroit, it was decided to bring the winning diesel-powered prototype from the just-finished event to The Henry Ford Museum, where it had been arranged the car would be displayed. The winning car was built by a small team (just four students) from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, IN, who managed to beat a number of college teams with a score of 1,899.32 mpg. That target would be a bit out of reach for the Ram, but could we get 1,000 miles from the tank? Since the truck has a 26 gallon tank (officially, anyway), that would mean the EPA says we could only go 702 miles, assuming all highway driving. Could we make up 300 miles with careful driving? That spells both challenge and fun.
Ram to go on a Rampage with new small pickup?
Wed, 16 Jul 2014When people look back at today's automotive industry, what do you think they'll remember us for? The emergence of hybrids? Ever more expensive and exotic supercars? The dawn of the self-driving car? All likely scenarios, but so is the blurring of lines between one bodystyle and another, giving rise to hardtop convertible coupes and crossovers of every shape and size. But one bodystyle the North American auto industry has stayed largely away from in the past couple of decades is a car nose and chassis with a pickup bed.
It's a bodystyle immortalized by the Chevrolet El Camino, but with few exceptions, we haven't seen too many of these automotive platypuses in recent years on our turf. Subaru tried with the Baja and the low-volume Honda Ridgeline soldiers along largely unchanged, but the genre's biggest adherents are still Down Under, where ute versions of the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon live. With a few other examples scattered to the four corners of the earth, that's really about it. But if these spy shots are anything to go by, it looks like Fiat Chrysler Automobiles could be working to bring it back.
Spied undergoing testing in Michigan, what we appear to be looking at is a heavily disguised Fiat Strada being prepared - like the Fiat Ducato-based Ram ProMaster and the smaller Doblo-based ProMaster City - for Stateside duty as a Ram product. The Strada, for those unfamiliar, is a product of Fiat Automóveis in Brazil and is based on the Palio economy car. The nameplate has been around South America since 1996 and was originally designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (long before Volkswagen monopolized his talents), and takes a more rugged approach in the form of the Strada Adventure.
