I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE 2008. I AM NOT, I REPEAT AM NOT NOT NOT IN THE COMMERCIAL HAULING BUSINESS! COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT DUALLY'S! MOST OF THEM ARE RAGGED OUT JUNK WHEN THEY ARE THIS AGE, PIMPED OUT BY THEIR OWNERS FOR $1.50 A MILE.... NOW, THEY ARE POORLY MAINTAINED AND WORN OUT... YES, THEY ARE $3,000-$4000 CHEAPER, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. LOOK AT THE EXTRAS I HAVE INSTALLED ON THIS TRUCK AND ADD IT UP, NOT TO MENTION THE MAINTENANCE. THIS TRUCK IS BETTER THAN A NEW ONE, THE NEW ONES HAVE A BUNCH OF EMISSIONS JUNK ON THEM, THE 2006 WAS THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS....IT DOES NOT HAVE ALL OF THAT TREE HUGGER GARBAGE ON IT. I OWNED THIS TRUCK AND HAVE USED IT AS ONE OF MY DAILY DRIVERS, I HAVE PUT APPROXIMATELY 70,000 OF THE MILES ON IT MYSELF, EMPLOYEES DID NOT DRIVE THIS TRUCK, I DID. MOST OF THOSE MILES IT WAS NOT HAULING ANYTHING AT ALL, AND THE ONES IT WAS TOWING IT WAS USUALLY HAULING A BOAT OR SINGLE CAR TRAILER OR MY KUBOTA BACKHOE THAT I USE ON MY PERSONAL PROJECTS. IT HAS HAD FULLY SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL AND ALL OTHER FLUIDS INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND DIFFERENTIALS/TRANSFER CASE/BRAKE FLUID IN IT SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. I AM A LICENSED PILOT AND AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND AM A FANATIC ABOUT MAINTENANCE. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLES WITH AN OPEN CHECKBOOK PHILOSOPHY I DON'T CARE WHAT IT COST I WANT THEM TO BE SAFE AND RELIABLE. IT HAS JUST BEEN SERVICED AGAIN, NEW SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL AND TRANSMISSION SYNTHETIC OIL IN THE LAST 1,000 MILES. THIS TRUCK HAS A VERY EXPENSIVE AFTERMARKET TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTRATION UNIT ON IT WITH A BALDWIN SPIN ON FILTER, SAME SETUP FOR THE ENGINE COOLANT (I HAVE EXTRA FILTERS I WILL INCLUDE WITH THE SALE STILL IN THE SHRINK WRAP). IT HAS AN EXTRA DEEP TRANSMISSION PAN ON IT THAT HOLDS AN EXTRA 5 QUARTS OF FLUID AND HAS COOLING FLUTES BUILT INTO THE TRANSMISSION PAN (SEE PICS). THIS COUPLED WITH THE EXTRA FLUID CAPACITY MEANS IT RUNS ABOUT 20 DEGREES COOLER THAN STOCK. I JUST HAD A BD DIESEL TOWING VALVE BODY INSTALLED. THIS ALONE WAS OVER $1,300. IT MAKES IT SHIFT FASTER/CRISPER AND HAS 50% MORE FLUID PRESSURE THAN THE STOCK VALVE BODY FOR CRISPER SHIFTS AND LONGER TRANSMISSION LIFE. THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FILTRATION SYSTEMS AND EXTRA CAPACITY PAN WERE ANOTHER $1,200. IT HAS THE FINEST TIRES MONEY CAN BUY ON IT, MICHELIN MS2 WITH 90% TREAD LIFE REMAINING. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND BALANCED AT DISCOUNT TIRE IN GREENVILLE THIS WEEK. THAT IS WHERE THEY WERE PURCHASED AND THEY ARE STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR ANOTHER 50,000 MILES APPROXIMATELY. THE TIRES THAT ARE ON THIS TRUCK WERE INSTALLED AT A COST OF $1632.00. I HAVE THE RECEIPT. IT HAS AROUND 5,000 MILES ON ALL NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS/DRUMS ALL THE WAY AROUND, PERFORMED AT THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER. I ALSO PUT A NEW SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER ON IT AT THE SAME TIME. IT HAS A NEW AC COMPRESSOR, RECEIVER/DRIER, AND ORIFICE FROM NAPA WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THEM, APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES JUST LIKE THE BRAKES. THE ORIGINAL AC COMPRESSOR HAD A FRONT SEAL LEAK SO I JUST HAD THE WHOLE SYSTEM REBUILT ABOUT 5,000 MILES AGO. (AROUND $800) IT HAS A BW TURNOVER BALL INSTALLED IN THE BED, THERE WHEN YOU NEED IT, AND GONE WHEN YOU DON'T. IT HAS GENUINE LINE X SPRAY IN BEDLINER WITH THE EXTRA UV PROTECTANT THAT KEEPS IN NICE AND SHINY AND BLACK, LIFETIME NATIONWIDE WARRANTY, NOT SOME CHEAP STUFF YOU BUY AT THE LOCAL PARTS STORE AND PUT ON YOURSELF THAT PEELS OFF. THIS WAS OVER $800 AND IS LIKE NEW. THE REASON I PUT THE SPRAY IN BEDLINER IN IT IS I WENT TO PULL A 5TH WHEEL CAMPER I JUST BOUGHT AND THE FACTORY PLASTIC BEDLINER WOULD NOT LET ME PUT MY DROP IN 5TH WHEEL PLATE THAT GOES IN THE BW TURNOVER BALL SOCKET IN, SO, OFF TO LINE X I WENT. I ALSO PUT IN LED FOG LIGHTS BECAUSE I LIKE THEM. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST DUALLY'S IN EXISTENCE FOR THIS KIND OF $$$. A NEW ONE LIKE THIS IS AROUND $65,000 BY THE TIME YOU GET IT RIGGED UP THIS WAY. THE DIAMOND PLATE TOOLBOX IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK IN THE PICS DOES NOT GO WITH IT, I AM PUTTING IT IN ANOTHER ONE OF MY TRUCKS. THE ONLY REAL DEFECT I CAN NAME IS THE TAILGATE IS DENTED ON THE BOTTOM. I WAS PULLING A BOAT AND I HAD A TRAILER BALL BREAK, YES, IT BROKE AND THE TONGUE OF THE BOAT GOT INTO MY TAILGATE WHEN IT CAME OFF. IT IS NOT THAT BAD, IT NEVER BOTHERED ME SO I DIDN'T GET IT FIXED, THE REAR BUMPER HAS SOME SCRATCHES BUT THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED. THE STEP BAR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE ONE OF THE LITTLE RUBBER PADS JUST CAME OFF, EITHER TAKE THE STEP BARS OFF OR FIGURE OUT WHAT KIND THEY ARE AND PUT A PAD BACK ON IT. I WILL BE HAPPY TO ARRANGE SHIPPING. MY PARENTS ARE RETIRED AND LOVE TO TRAVEL AND DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE THEY MAY BE WILLING TO DRIVE IT TO YOU OR I CAN HAVE IT SHIPPED TO YOU, EMAIL ME FOR A QUOTE. ALL THIS BEING SAID...THIS TRUCK DOES NOT NEED A THING. IT IS AS GOOD OF A TRUCK AS YOU ARE GOING TO BUY FOR THIS PRICE. EVERYTHING ON IT WORKS AND I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. CALL ME ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT AT 803-993-8242 OR EMAIL ME ANYTIME WITH QUESTIONS, brian@briantroberts.com I CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING THIS VEHICLE ANYWHERE, EMAIL ME FOR A QUOTE. Certain Chrysler owners eligible for buyback program
Mon, Jul 27 2015Certain car owners whose Chrysler vehicles contain dangerous defects will soon have a way to get rid of their lemons without losing money. As part of an agreement with federal regulators, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has agreed to buy back more than 500,000 vehicles susceptible to veering out of control without warning at above market-value prices. The deal mainly covers certain models of RAM trucks, the Dodge Dakota pickup and Dodge Durango SUV. Further, owners of more than 1.5 million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokees at heightened risk for lethal fires are eligible to trade in their vehicles at above market value or, alternately, get a gift certificate if they prefer to have repairs made. Chrysler has "a heavy responsibility to make sure the products they make are safe for the traveling public," said Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "... Here, we are sending an unambiguous signal to industry that if you skirt the laws or violate the law, or don't live up to the responsibility that consumers expect, we are going to penalize you." The buy-back and trade-in options for motorists come as part of an unprecedented penalty NHTSA slapped against Chrysler for violating federal motor-vehicle safety laws. Chrysler will pay a $105 million fine, the highest ever levied by the regulatory agency. In addition to the buy-backs, Chrysler also agreed to an independent monitor for three years. Investigators had outlined problems in the company's conduct in 23 recalls that affected more than 11 million defect vehicles. As part of a consent-order agreement, Chrysler acknowledged it did not notify vehicle owners of recalls in an effective manner and did not notify NHTSA of safety problems. Though those recalls affected millions of drivers, the buy-back and trade-in options are only for a small portion of the vehicles involved. Because Chrysler struggled to fix the problem and no repair was apparent, Rosekind said the buy-backs are reserved "for customers who didn't have a remedy." Buy-backs are for trucks and SUVs affected by three recalls that occurred in 2013 (recalls 13V-038, 13V-527 and 13V-529), that addressed a rear-axle pinion nut that could come loose and cause a loss of vehicle control. Those recalls covered 579,228 vehicles, including 2009-2012 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks, 2009-2012 Dodge Dakotas, 2009 Chrysler Aspen and the 2009 Dodge Durango.
Mopar highlights wild SEMA creations, AWD Challenger Concept
Tue, Nov 3 2015Thanks to 15,345 square feet of display area, FCA US' Mopar division certainly has ample space to display its parts and accessories at the SEMA Show. To lure attendees to check out all of those cars and components, the company is now revealing ten tuned vehicles for this year's aftermarket event. This isn't even the brand's whole fleet for the show, but it includes some major highlights for Dodge and Ram fans. A lack of traction traditionally makes rear-wheel-drive muscle cars dismal to drive when the weather gets slippery, but the Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept (above) solves that age-old problem at SEMA. In addition to powering all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, it boasts an angry-looking, wide-body kit with aggressively flared wheel arches. The asymmetrical stripe with Header Orange accents also adds some extra panache to the Destroyer Grey and Matte Black color scheme. The coupe can back up the macho look thanks to the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit that adds 75 horsepower and 44 pound-feet of torque to the 5.7-liter V8. However, before you get too excited about driving one this winter, FCA US spokesperson Ariel Gavilan tells Autoblog: "It is only a concept." Mopar isn't done tuning Dodges for SEMA. The Charger Deep Stage 3 shows what's possible with the company's catalog by packing the Scat Pack 3, strut tower braces, coilover suspension kit, and bigger brakes. Meanwhile, the blacked-out Dart GLH Concept tries to harken back to the style of the famous Omni GLH by fitting a red-accented body kit, including a Mopar Performance aluminum hood. If the standard Ram 1500 Rebel is somehow too subdued, check out the Rebel X (right) in a vibrant shade called Copper. To be ready for anything offroad, it wears some muscular flares to fit 17-inch beadlock wheels and 35-inch Toyo tires. A concept, two-piece front skid plate protects the front. Drivers should also be comfortable no matter where they drive thanks to prototype Katzkin leather seats and a concept air-ride suspension. Chrysler enjoys some mods, as well. The 300 Super S has suave style with Matte Cerulean paint, concept 22-inch wheels, and a grille with little Mopar Ms dotted around it. Performance also sees a boost with a tuned engine, bigger brakes, and coilover kit. The gray 200 S Mopar is similarly stylish with a complete body kit, including a conceptual, dual-vented hood. Fiat and Ram's commercial models aren't left out of the SEMA fun, either.
Weekly Recap: FCA hit with record fine as NHTSA crackdown continues
Sat, Aug 1 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration slapped Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with a record fine this week that could reach $105 million. The punishment comes after NHTSA found problems with the automaker's execution of 23 recalls that affect more than 11 million vehicles. The consent agreement, announced Sunday, calls for FCA to pay a $70-million cash fine and requires the company to spend at least $20 million over a three-year period on industry outreach programs and to beef up old recall campaigns. Failure to comply will result in another $15-million fine. FCA also agreed to federal oversight, which includes an independent monitor to oversee the company's recalls. The $70-million cash fine equals a penalty NHTSA levied on Honda in January. "Fiat Chrysler's pattern of poor performance put millions of its customers and the driving public at risk," NHTSA administrator Mark Rosekind said in a statement. "This action will provide relief to owners of defective vehicles, will help improve recall performance throughout the auto industry, and gives Fiat Chrysler the opportunity to embrace a proactive safety culture." FCA called the deal a "consensual resolution," but admitted that it "failed to timely provide an effective remedy" during certain recalls. "We are intent on rebuilding our relationship with NHTSA and we embrace the role of public safety advocate," the company said in a statement. The announcement kicked off a busy week for the automaker. NHTSA agreed FCA did not need to recall 4.7 million vehicles after an investigation failed to find defects with a power module used in some Jeep, Dodge, and Ram vehicles. A Georgia judge also reduced a civil verdict involving a death in a Jeep Grand Cherokee crash. Amid all of that, the company reported net profit of about 333 million euros, or $364 million in the second quarter on Thursday. OTHER NEWS & NOTES FCA ramps up Hellcat production Despite a decidedly legal and financial week for FCA, there was still time for the performance side of the business to briefly grab the spotlight. The automaker is more than doubling its production of the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats in response to strong demand. The order bank opens the second week of August and production begins in September. FCA will finish up its scheduled 2015 model-year Hellcat builds, and cancel any "unscheduled" versions, though customers will get discounted pricing for 2016.
