 In The Red

1995 Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel frame off restomod show go and tow, legendary Cummins 12 valve engine, a heavy duty (15 ton GVW) 9 Speed Eaton Fuller RoadRanger transmission which allows smooth shifts with little RPM drop between gears, 22.5 Alcoa Aluminuim Semi wheels with new 255/70 22.5 tires, 5200lb air bag helpers, 2 gal 12v air supply, marine air horns and 6" chrome stacks.

We started with a completely stock rust free truck then took it down to the bare frame and built it up with the modifications to get everything fitting then took it back down, stripped it to bare metal then sprayed the frame, suspension and underside with satin black industrial enamel then stripped the body panels to bare metal and layed on 4 coats of acrylic urethane red and 4 coats of acrylic urethane clear coat then it got color sanded and buffed to the brilliant shine you see. We built the engine with a complete engine rebuild kit then sprayed it and the tranny the same color as the truck. It is bored 40 over, has a rebuilt injection pump, new lift pump, rebuilt 215hp injectors with new nozzles (from a 97 truck), new oil pump, rebuilt head. The transmission has been fully disassembled and inspected and is like new as with the rear axle. It has all new front end parts including upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, idle arm, pitman arm, rotors, brake pads, rebuilt calipers and steering gear box.

We dropped one leaf spring on the rear to give it a somewhat smoother ride then added Dominator 5200lb air bag helpers mounted with extra heavy duty weld on mounts and heavy duty traction bars to keep the rear end from twisting from all the torque the engine and 9 speed make. Complete tow package includes 2" receiver and goose neck ball with electrical connector at the receiver and in the bed for a gooseneck and a digital trailer brake controller. The connectors are 7 pin spade type. The bed was sprayed with bed coating and got a thick rubber mat with a diamond plate design.

Extra power and cooler EGT's is generated with 215hp injectors, a K&N Cold Air Intake and a 4" inch downpipe into 6" Stacks. The injector pump has been turned up a little and it has a boost elbow set at 28 lbs boost. The pump and the boost can be turned up more or decreased by the turn of a few screws. The turbo housing and intercooler tubes are powder coated red and we added new performance boots.

The interior was completely gutted and rebuilt with a new OEM dash and black leather seats with red double stitch, new carpet and headliner. While we where in there we disassembled the AC/Heat cavity and cleaned the AC evaporater core and heater core. The AC also got a new condensor and filter dryer... blows ice cold like it should. It has a Alpine stereo/cd/usb with the stock six speaker system which works and sounds great. I just load up a usb drive and plug it in. It's a Laramie model truck with power windows and we added fold out power tow mirrors. The seat was power but we swapped that for a manual seat for reliability.

The 2gal air supply is a Viar 12v 140psi unit mounted in the bed that supplies air for the transmission, air horns and rear air bags. A double needle gauge at the dash monitors system air pressure as well as air bag pressure. We have an on/off switch for the compressor and an up/down swtich for the rear bags. The compressor has an automatic cutoff switch that we changed to a 110psi for added compressor life. We also added a quick connector air supply.

We added 2 new 31 series commercial batteries and moved them to the bed of the truck. Custom metal covers where made for the batteries and air compressor. It has Isspro gauges, Pyrometer, Fuel Pressure and Boost all on the pillar pod with it's own dimmer switch for the gauge back lights.

Now for the fine print:
This truck is 99% complete and ready to show, go and tow. Drive it anywhere. It runs great, the transmission shifts great, it has lots of power, it's very comfortable, the air works great and the stereo sounds great, it looks great as you can see. However, there are a few things that could be done to make it better. The fog lights, driver auto door lock and the cruise don't work. The tires are brand new and will probably last like, forever, but they're not premium tires and do not have a great ride. A set of premium tires would greatly improve the ride and drive of this truck. This truck is half pickup and half big rig and it rides and drives somewhere between a big rig and a pickup. If your interested in this truck because you want a great driving smooth ride then move on. On the other hand if your interested in towing around town or showing it off then go for it. The 9 speed RoadRanger does not have overdrive but the 37" tires somewhat makes up for it. The truck tops out at 78mph at 2800rpm's. This truck is something I dreamed about as a teenager and I did get it 99% done but health and financial issues are against me. Maybe your a dreamer and ready to finish what I started and by the way ... you can't tell it's not 100% percent by looking at it.
As of this writing it has less than 100 miles on it.

Purchased from an individual in the Baton Rouge area in 2011 in stock non running condition. Then we done the frame off restomod.

The high bidder is responsible for delivery. I will be glad to help the shipper get it loaded. Paypal payment of $500 due within 2 days and balance in cash within 7 days.

If your interested in bidding on this truck I urge you to come by and check it out in person. Call Robert at 601-620-3118.

2016 Jeep Wrangler recalled over impact sensor wiring

Thu, Oct 20 2016

Fiat Chrysler just announced a pair of recalls totaling nearly 311,000 units. The bigger recall affects certain 2016 and 2017 model year Jeep Wranglers. Although, since FCA claims all of the affected 2017s are in the company's hands, really, only 2016 owners should pay attention here. The affected Wranglers suffer from an issue where wiring disconnects from impact sensors in certain types of crashes, potentially preventing the airbags and pretensioners from activating. FCA uncovered the problem in what its press release calls "a routine, in-house crash test" and claims "service availability is imminent." The affected Jeeps require a simple rewiring. The other recall, announced Tuesday, is more of a fleet issue, affecting 2007 to 2013 model-year Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs and 2011 to 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit police vehicles. There's a problem with "premature diode wear" in alternators that are subject to "frequent load cycling, at or near maximum amperage, [or] in hot ambient temperatures." Affected alternators could short out, causing a vehicle to stall or potentially catch fire. FCA lists 182,743 affected Wranglers in the US, 18,011 in Canada, 3,087 in Mexico, and 20,948 in global markets. The Ram/ Charger Pursuit recall lists 74,833 vehicles in the US, 10,077 in Canada, 1,088 in Mexico, and 134 outside the NAFTA region. Of all those vehicles, the Jeep recall hasn't caused any injuries or fatalities, while FCA says it's aware of one "potentially related injury" and no accidents due to its fleet vehicle recall. FCA says it will notify owners/operators of affected vehicles when service appointments are available. As per usual, all the work is free of charge. Related Video:

This or That: 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 vs. 2005 Subaru WRX STI [w/poll]

Thu, May 7 2015

Some cars, due to ultimate desirability, particular rareness, or spectacular performance/prestige eventually become collectible. It's darn near impossible to know which ones will make it into the rarefied stratosphere of collectibility – why is a late 1960s AMC AMX so affordable these days, whereas prices for late '70s Pontiac Trans Ams are soaring? – but there are some useful indicators to keep tabs on. We're not exactly experts on investing, but we do know cars. As such, we've decided to take our non-expertise on one hand, combine it in the other with our knowledge of all things automotive, wad it up, throw it out and ask for your forgiveness. Or something like that. I've challenged Senior Editor Seyth Miersma to choose a car he thinks will become a future collector's item that's not more than 10 years old, and for no more than $25,000. I've done the same, and we vigorously argued for and against each other's picks. I feel good about my choice, but I don't have the best track record in these contests (I've lost three times, won twice, but they've all been pretty close), so, while I'm not going to beg (please vote for me!), I do hope you find my argument convincing. But first, let's hear from Seyth: Miersma: Ten-years old or newer makes this challenging. At that age most vehicles feel like a plain old used car to me, few hit the "classic" button. But the Subaru WRX STI has always been a special car, and the 2005 cutoff year proves to be very attractive for the parameters of our contest. It's rare; with fewer than 5,000 STI models sold that model year. It's probably the best looking WRX STI ever sold in America; narrowly avoiding the dreadful "horse collar" front fascia. And it's got one of the more die-hard car-geek followings out there. For $25,000, you can also still find examples that have reasonable miles, are in good condition, and haven't all been molested by grown-up Initial D wannabes. With the street racers hacking up collectable examples every day, I like my odds for steep appreciation by way of conservation. I couldn't agree more. It really is difficult to predict what cars will catch the eye of collectors, and the WRX STI seems like a pretty good choice. But I think mine is even better, and I can't let him know that I'd love to park just such an STI in my very own garage. And so goes my argument: Korzeniewski: I like your choice as a driver, Seyth. I'm less convinced of its status as a sure-fire collectible.

Bid on the incredible George Barris Supervan in Scottsdale

Fri, Jan 22 2016

Barrett-Jackson's upcoming Scottsdale, AZ, auction features the groovy Barris SuperVan, which came from the mind of car customizing legend George Barris. He even autographed the interior. Passengers enter the SuperVan through the hinged windshield, and once inside they can party in style thanks to the roof-mounted disco ball. However, occupants can't get too wild because the massive side windows don't leave much room for privacy. Barris built the van around a 1966 Dodge Tradesman A-100 with a three-speed manual gearbox and a 318-cubic-inch V8. Barris originally called the van the "The Love Machine," and it later had quite a Hollywood career. Its on-screen appearances included the '70s movie SuperVan, and a repainted version served as a Hill Valley Transit bus in Back to the Future II. After his passing at age 89 last year, Barris' creation might see a further boost in value. Barrett-Jackson doesn't offer a price estimate for the SuperVan, but we can't wait to see what this groovy vehicle sells for with no reserve. Collectors already valued Barris' work before his death. For example, his 1960s Batmobile, which was likely Barris' most famous creation, went for $4.62 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2013.
