1997 Dodge Ram 3500 - 4x4 - 5 Speed on 2040-cars

Year:1997 Mileage:247582

Location: Kyle, South Dakota, about 90 miles Southeast of Rapid City.

We nicknamed this '97 Dodge 3500 "The Beast", due to its size and the fact that it really does love to haul things. My husband is the main driver and mechanic of this vehicle, and though I myself know some mechanics, I gathered most of the details from him. We're not skimping on the gritty details because we don't want anyone driving away with a mystery.

This truck has come a long way since our purchase. It had been converted into a diesel-slash-vegetable oil "Frankenstein" by the previous owner who was a big fan of switches, wires and various unnecessary heaters, pumps and hoses. My husband (who worked a few years in mechanics for a living) ripped most of the garbage out and restored it as much as possible to its original factory make-up (a normal diesel one-ton) but left in few of the more interesting modifications; a manual fuel shutoff, and a locking 4wd cable which does away with the vacuum pump and allows you to use the low gearing without being in 4wd.

The good, the added, and the replaced:

-As mentioned, this truck loves to haul! Gauges are all in working order and the hitch is fully functional with an added Brake Controller.
-Aluminum rims with almost-new tires.
Front "Bambi Slammer" is a custom off a tow truck and does have a ball hitch.
New Headlights
(2)840 CCA Batteries
Foldaway Tow Mirrors
A Trailer Brake Controller
New Fuel Hoses
Replaced Left Tie Rod End
Replaced Signal Switch
Other various minor things which we can't think of.
(Not to mention the total rewiring job for removing the "Frankenstein-ing" evidence.)
New Injectors ($1500)
Inspection (we'll look for the paperwork)

The should, the bad, and what's needed:

-It should get an alignment; it drives straight but with the tie rod replacement an alignment isn't a bad idea.
-It does need front universals and there is a broken leaf in the left spring pack.
-We don't fill the fuel tank much over half full because it leaks somewhere around 3/4. (This is one of the previous owner's "modifications" gone wrong.)
-I won't lie, it does burn oil but it runs fine. When we moved last summer we used it to pull our 36 foot camper 700 miles (most of our belongings piled inside) with no issues other than stopping now and then to check and add.
-The steering is a bit loose but there is absolutely NO death wobble; the killer dowel pin was replaced by the previous owner. Also, put a trailer load on the truck and it will have tighter steering.
-Hazards do not function properly.
-The cosmetics: The dashboard is cracked up from all the vibrations (Picture included), there is rusting, and there are scratches and abrasions. (Pictures also included)

The truck has served us well for our moving and building needs over the past year (we've only had it that long), but it's time for us to get something smaller. We invested over $10,500 in this vehicle. Starting bid at $7500, that's 30% less than what we've paid so far, painfully I've lowered the price, but we need to pay for the smaller vehicle we got so this is the best price you'll be getting out of us. Ask any questions and I'll get you an answer.   If plausible and you're in our area I can arrange for you to take the truck for a drive. We're located near Kyle South Dakota. Thank you for checking out this truck and happy bidding!  - Lisa

P.S.  This truck is on sale lists elsewhere, so I might close the bidding at anytime if we end up selling on the other lists.

Fiat Chrysler posts record Q3 profit thanks to U.S. trucks and Jeep

Wed, Oct 28 2020

MILAN — A rebound in car production in Fiat Chrysler on Wednesday reported record third-quarter earnings as production returned to nearly pre-pandemic levels. The Italian-American automaker, which is finalizing its full merger with French rival PSA Peugeot, reported a net profit in the three months ending Sept. 30 of $1.4 billion (1.2 billion euros). That compares with a loss of 179 million euros a year earlier. The carmaker reported adjusted earnings before tax and interest in North America of 2.5 billion euros. That offset deepening losses in Europe, Asia and at its Maserati luxury marquee. Latin America, the only other region to post a profit, saw it narrow by two-thirds to 46 million euros. “Our record results were driven by our teamÂ’s tremendous performance in North America,” CEO Mike Manley said in a statement. Overall, the carmaker said global earnings before tax and interest were a record 2.3 billion euros despite a 6% fall in revenues to 26 billion euros. Global shipments were down 3%, due largely to plant retooling in North American to produce the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer in the luxury SUV segment and the discontinuation of the Dodge Grand Caravan classic minivan. Fiat Chrysler announced earlier Wednesday that its merger with PSA Peugeot is on track to be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2021, as planned. To meet regulatory concerns, the French carmaker is selling a small stake in a components maker to get below 40% ownership. The new automaker, to be called Stellantis, will be the fourth biggest producer in the world. Earnings/Financials Chrysler Dodge Fiat Jeep RAM Citroen Peugeot

Dodge Scat Pack for 5.7L Hemi V8 detailed, priced

Sat, 05 Apr 2014

Dodge revived the Scat Pack name back in November at the 2013 SEMA show. At the time, though, we were short of details on forthcoming upgrade packages, which were destined to add some oomph to the Challenger, Charger and Dart. We're still waiting to hear about the upgrades to the Dart's 2.4-liter four-pot, but Dodge has gone ahead and released the details on the upgrades to the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the Challenger and Charger R/T.
As we detailed in our original post, three different Scat Packs will be available that will allow customers to upgrade their cars without voiding the warranties. Starting with the $2,195 Stage 1 kit, owners will net an extra 18 horsepower and 18 pound-feet of torque thanks to a Mopar-branded cold-air intake, exhaust and ECU ref lash. Stage 1 is also the only package that could be installed outside of a Chrysler-authorized service center without voiding the warranty (a mechanically competent owner could even do it at home, we're told by Dodge). Stage 2 builds on the entry level Scat Pack, and adds performance camshaft kit, which boosts output over the stock 5.7 by up to 30 hp for $1,895. As with the Stage 1, the ECU is tweaked.
For those that want to go whole hog, they can add the Stage 3 for $4,995. The top-tier gets quite serious, adding CNC-ported cylinder heads, as well as high-flow headers and cats. Output over stock is 58 hp and 47 lb-ft of torque. Each kit comes with a pair of badges, just in case owners want a bit of visual flair.

25,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango SUVs recalled over brake feel

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

Chrysler has announced that it is recalling over 25,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs from several markets over concerns about brake feel under hard braking. The affected models are from the 2012 and 2013 model years, although the actual dates of production aren't available. 18,700 are in the US, while 825 are in Canada, 530 are in Mexico and a further 5,200 outside of North America.
According to a statement, Chrysler was informed of the issue by a component supplier for the Ready Alert Braking system, which primes the brakes in anticipation of an emergency stop. A component in the system was restricting the flow of brake fluid too much.
As Chrysler is quick to point out, the way the brakes functioned was in compliance with regulations and there are no reported cases of drivers losing braking power. Instead, the issue rests with what Chrysler calls a pedal feel that "was not consistent with customer expectations." So it would seem Chrysler is being proactive and fixing a problem not because there's a legal issue at work, but simply because it doesn't feel the way the manufacturer wants it to. Well done.
