This is like parting with an old friend. My family just can not fit in this any more for extended trips, so it has been replaced by a new crew cab diesel.

2000 Dodge Ram 2500 3/4 ton Diesel Quad cab long bed 4 wheel drive. NO RESERVE! Starts at $200 and high bid will own this. I also have it listed locally so bid to win.

I bought this new on the lot in October of 1999. If I remember correctly it had just under 30 miles on it.

As of today it has 413,546 miles and will have a few more by the time the auction is over.

I have regularly changed the oil and run Delo in this from the first oil change. The only time it has had anything different is when I was in Alabama a few months ago and I had to get an oil change and they used Rotella. When I was back home it was time to change the oil again, so it is back on Delo.

I would not hesitate to get in this truck and drive it across the country without fear of being stranded. Even though it is a high mileage truck it still performs like it did when I bought it.

I have pulled car trailers with this, probably about 1/2 its life. I use as my daily driver.

I don't have a heavy foot and I think that is reflected in the fact that most of the equipment on the truck is from the factory. I also never put a chip in it or changed the turbo dump gate pressure.

It has the original turbo, never removed or rebuilt. I have never had to have the engine opened up for anything. It is still Cummins factory sealed.

You can see the overall condition of the truck in the pictures. No major accidents, but I did back into a cable spool on the passenger door a few years ago. Everything still worked, so I never looked for a replacement door.

I have hauled many, many objects in the bed. You can see that there is paint missing, but the floor mat protected the floor of the bed from damage. Also on the bed rails, the clear coat is starting to peel. I think that if you were to put a spray in liner in the bed and wrap it over the top rails, that would take care of that problem.

The truck is on its 3rd transmission. The first being replaced at about 120,000 and the 2nd going at 196,000. Since I have had this transmission in the truck I have changed the fluid every 30,000 and it seems to be making a huge difference. It is just about time for it to be serviced, another 8,000 or so miles.

I have also regularly changed the gear oil in the front and rear differentials and transfer case. It is about time for that as well.

I replace the stock 16 inch rims and tires with a set of 17 inch rims and tires that were take offs from a 2005 model. Since then I have just been getting new rubber. The last set of Michelins I put on the truck went almost 93,000 miles. The guys at Costco were amazed. The rims have NO curb rash or damage. They are in great condition. The tires have about 15,000 miles on them. I put them on before I went to New Mexico and back and then did a 7,000 mile road trip a few weeks later.

I put a new radiator in it 3 years ago as the old one had started to weep where the plastic was getting brittle.

I have also been through 3 fuel lift pumps and 3 fuel injection pumps. The last one on my dime. The first 2 failed under warranty as did the first 2 fuel lift pumps. Now it has an up dated lift pump with more volume and pressure, and that seems to have cured the problem with the fuel injection pump. I also run a fuel additive and have a low fuel pressure warning light.

The trip computer/fuel meter/temperature overhead has been acting up lately and may or may not work.

At about 365,000 I had to replace the original alternator while I was on the road.

There are various areas of the drive train that are weeping oil. There are no big leaks. The engine oil does not lose more than 1/2 a quart from from oil change to oil change. I don't think it is burning it. I think that it is just weeping.

About 345,000 I had the rear transmission seals (the shop does a modification to the tail piece and puts in 2 seals for longevity) replaced as well as the transfer case input seal.

The cruise control works as it should.

I replace the heater blower motor earlier this year as the old one died.

It has the original u-joints. They have been well taken care of and greased every oil change.

The block heater was replaced about 18 months ago. I followed the recommended usage and plugged the truck in when the temperature was below 50 degrees.

I always allowed the engine a "cooling off" period after more than a half hour or so in the freeway. When I travel I usually did not shut off the engine until I reached my destination. I kept the door remote in my pocket and just had the ignition key for the truck to run. There were times when the engine was not shut down for 48 hours or more depending on weather and where I was going. I have had to sleep in the truck more than once as I could not find a hotel room. I left it running for heat or cooling. Never had a problem.

I have used the 4 wheel drive feature many times over the years. Either for snow or just to pull someone out of a ditch. 4 low has amazing torque and pulling power.

It has 2 newer batteries. About a year and a half old. I also replaced all 4 of the battery hold down bolts, dealer only item @ $18/each!! And that was after talking the parts guy down on the price from $31. He agreed that was a ridiculous price.

That should be most of the important stuff, and some less so, that you need to know about the truck.

The Kelly Blue Book value on this truck is;

  • Excellent

    $11,137
  • Very Good

    $10,687
  • Good

    $10,337
  • Fair

    $8,962

I would rate this as Fair to Good

The good;

Get in and drive it. I have been driving it for almost 14 years and I would drive it for another 14 if my kids still fit in the back seat
Near new tires, almost $1000 worth of Michelins
Clear Clean title no accidents
Cummins 24 valve turbo diesel engine If you don't have a heavy foot you can get 20-22mpg empty and 15-18 with a trailer. I followed a friend for a little over 150 miles while he was driving a car with a top speed of 50 mph and I got 39 miles per gallon. Too bad I don't drive THAT slow every day
NO rust

The not-so-good;
Dash is cracked and broken
Driver seat is worn
Passenger door is dented
I think that after more than 400,000 miles the original shocks may need to be replaced. I have never had an alignment done on the truck either, as the tires have always worn even.
Typical 2000 Dodge "sloppy" steering. There is some play in the steering. I just got used to it.

Also comes with a small dowry of new/used parts
New A/C compressor-I thought that the old one was going out, but it isn't. The condenser coils were plugged with road grime and bugs. All the radiators need to be cleaned of excess bug guts from time to time
New set of Bosch front brake pads
Used license plate illumination light assemblies
New alternator plug. The old one still works, but the retaining clip broke. I have not had a problem with it falling out, but I bought the new one just in case $60!!

2015 Ford Mustang vs. Camaro and Challenger [w/poll]

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

The horsepower wars are tightening among the Detroit Three, as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger are getting bigger, more powerful, and yes, more fuel efficient.
That came into sharper focus this week as more information was revealed about the most insane Challenger ever - the 707-horsepower Hellcat - followed quickly by Ford's in-depth showcase of the 2015 Mustang in Dearborn.
It's shaping up to be a golden age for enthusiasts, and what's under the hood is becoming more important than ever.

Defiance Dodge Charger, saving Earth from aliens isn't clean work [w/video]

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

You'll be forgiven for not having heard about the TV show Defiance - it actually hasn't aired its first episode yet. The new science fiction show about an alien war against Earth in the near future seems like a perfect fit for the SyFy channel, and, apparently one that Dodge saw as a slick marketing opportunity for its Charger sedan.
Here in Chicago, Dodge has given a large corner of its show stand to the Defiance Charger, a car that won't be skipped by any Mad Max fans in attendance at this year's show. The Charger boasts one hell of a gnarly patina under a confusingly welded cage of tube steel, as well as window bars, a grille guard in front, and big, knobby truck tires. There aren't any obvious guns or turrets on the outside of the vehicle, so we can only hope that the characters driving it go well-armed.
Look for the Charger to make its star turn in Defiance when the series premieres on SyFy on April 15 at 9:00 PM EST. Also, there's said to be a Defiance video game in the works, too, so you may get a chance to steer the burly Dodge for yourself. Find a trailer for the show, below, as well.

Chrysler says its 8-speed transmissions will save 700 million gallons

Thu, Jun 19 2014

Chrysler Group's TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission could be earning some serious green bragging rights if the company's projections are correct. The recently widely proliferated automatic gearbox, which is now in more than a million vehicles around the world, is poised to save drivers an estimated 700+ million gallons of fuel over the vehicles' lifetimes (an expected cost savings of $2.5 billion). In addition, Chrysler expects a reduction in CO2 emissions by more than six million metric tons. According to Chrysler, and depending on the vehicle, the TorqueFlite can improve fuel economy. The TorqueFlite autobox features particularly close ratios from fifth to eighth gear (see the press release below for the specific numbers), and uses low-viscosity fluid that doesn't need to be replaced. Transmission software adapts to the driving situation to optimize efficiency based on driver behavior, temperature, grade, stability control, and longitudinal and lateral acceleration. The TorqueFlite is capable of handling a variety of duties. As evidenced by the wide range of vehicles Chrysler Group has seen fit to equip with the eight-speed transmission, the TorqueFlite is capable of handling a variety of duties. Since its 2012 introduction, the TorqueFlite has gone from performing cog-swapping duties in Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 to changing gears in vehicles such as the Pentastar- and Hemi-powered Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee and even the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. For the 2015 model year, the eight-speed is finding its way into even more vehicles with the addition of a third version. In addition to the American-made TorqueFlite 845RE and 8HP70, the new 8HP90 will be manufactured in Saarbrucken, Germany. The 8HP90 is designed for higher torque loads, making it ideal for high-performance vehicles like the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The already-in-use 8HP70 will expand its duties to be used in 2015 Hemi models such as the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Challenger SRT8. You can see the list of those benchmarks in Chrysler's press release below.
