1951 Dodge Power Wagon M37 Modern 4x4 Chassis 5.9 FI, O/D Auto, All Pwr, A/C

Reasonable Rides and Rods presents this very unique 1951 Dodge Power Wagon for your consideration.  This beast draws a crowd everywhere you drive it.  With the modern drivetrain, you can literally drive this truck anywhere.  Professionally built and upgraded, you will be impressed with the workmanship.  This truck was built with hundreds of labor hours invested along with a substantial financial commitment.

Body and Paint

The original 1951 M37 Power Wagon body has been professionally mounted on a modern chassis (1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4).  The truck has really decent paint and retains some of the “patina” that developed over the years.  It really fits the truck.  It has rock solid floors and bed.  Every panel fits up right and the doors open and close as they should.  The hood does have some cracking due to filler, but it is mostly covered up with the military star acetate.  It sports a canvas top that is in good condition and fits well.  All glass is in great shape and new weather stripping has just been installed.  A custom grill was made for the front, along with a heavy duty bumper and Warn winch.  The exterior presentation of this Power Wagon is outstanding.

Drivetrain/Engine/Trans

The 1998 Dodge Ram chassis was professionally shortened a few inches to fit the correct wheel base.  The 5.9 gas fuel injection engine performs flawlessly.  The engine is stock and only has a performance air cleaner and performance muffler installed.  The automatic overdrive transmission shifts through the gears as it should.  The truck retains all of the modern accessories from the 1998 Dodge, which makes the truck a great driver.  Power steering, Power brakes, and it even has heat and AC.  The transfer case and 4wd system all works as it should.  All of the front suspension components are new, and the truck drives great in town or at 75 mph on the highway.  No tire noise, vibrations, road walking or driveability issues.  It absolutely drives like a newer truck.  No leaks, funny noises or any other issues.  The engine operates cool even on 100 degree Texas days with the a/c running.

Interior

This Power Wagon has original seats (recently recovered) and original dash.  The gauges have been upgraded to modern VDO gauges and everything works.  A Vintage Air compact under dash heat and a/c unit has been installed for driver comfort.  Even with the soft top, the a/c gets ice cold and heat works great.  The Dodge Ram steering column and steering wheel were used in the conversion, along with the ECU and OBD port.  The Ram 4wd shifter was retained.  All lights, switches and electrical components work.

Tire and Wheels

This Power Wagon comes with 15 inch steel Pro Comp black wheels and brand new Toyo Open Country MT 37x14.5-R15 tires around.  These radials allow for a quiet and great driving truck and have less than 100 miles on them.

Overall

This Power Wagon is an incredible vehicle.  The professional chassis/drivetrain swap makes this a great driver.  I have literally been driving it every day and it is very enjoyable to drive.  It has plenty of power, awesome 4wd capability, and great looks.  It would make and ideal hunting vehicle.  Absolutely no disappointments here, and you can fly in and drive it home any distance.  We have a Georgia bill of sale with the original VIN (non-title state) and the clear title for the donor 1998 Ram, so it can be titled either way depending on your state’s requirements.

2016 Dodge Viper ACR First Drive [w/video]

Fri, Jul 17 2015

The Dodge Viper is not a comfortable car. Livable, yes. The interior is covered in fine materials. But you still climb over a hot door sill to enter the tiny cabin. And the frequency range of the engine's noises seem specifically designed to cause headaches. What happens, then, if you remove all pretense of civility from a Viper and add equipment solely aimed at improving lap times? You would have the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. In terms of achieving its purpose, this car is a absolute success. In many ways it's also the most honest Viper of the current generation. Prices start at $121,990 (including $2,100 gas-guzzler tax and $1,995 destination), or $32,900 more than the least expensive Viper. In ACR trim, the Viper loses the under-carpet padding, 9 of 12 speakers plus amplifier, carpet and trim from the cargo area, and sound deadening in front of the rear wheel wells. The parts of the interior still covered add healthy amounts of Alcantara or optional carbon fiber. That weight loss is compensated by the addition of go-fast bits like the giant rear wing (or the larger "x-wing" on the Extreme Aero Package), 10-way adjustable Bilstein Motorsports shocks, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, a rear diffuser, and a front splitter. Total claimed curb weight is 3,392 pounds in Aero trim (standard ACR trim is 18 pounds lighter), which is within a few stone of the rest of the Viper lineup. The diffuser strakes and leading edge of the splitter are removable, made to be replaced after rubbing on track tarmac and make street driving slightly more practical. Not that you'd want to drive the ACR on the street, with the lack of noise insulation and spring rates twice as stiff as the Viper TA, but it is street-legal. Dodge claims the DOT-approved Kumho Ecsta V720 tires on the ACR allow faster lap times than some race compound tires. Our test was limited to on-track shenanigans at Virginia International Raceway. Which is fitting because we wouldn't have anything good to say about driving the car on the street. The ACR is, essentially, a race car sold in the showroom, although with the Viper's 1 of 1 customization program, your custom build can include as many creature comforts as you like. Lined up in pit lane at VIR, the Viper ACRs for our evaluation blur the air with heat shimmer. All of the test cars have air conditioning, but that shuts off at full throttle with a six-second reset.

Preserved truck found at the bottom of frozen lake

Tue, Jan 26 2016

A fisherman in central Minnesota pulled more than bluegill and bass out of his local fishing hole earlier this month. While ice fishing on Mayhew Lake, a local man was startled when, using an underwater camera to scout for fish, he discovered a vehicle sitting on the lakebed, the SCTimes reported. He immediately called the Benton County Sheriff's office, which sent deputies to examine the vehicle. Once they arrived, the deputies used their own camera to have a look and discovered a late-90s to early-00s model Dodge Ram pickup in roughly 12 feet of water. The Sheriff's department dive team was then dispatched to search the truck and the area surrounding it for bodies or valuables. The truck was lifted from the lakebed through a huge hole in the ice. The Sheriff's office ran the plates and discovered that it was reported stolen in March of 2000 from a nearby address. Investigators believe that given the truck's location, almost 100 yards from the lake's public access ramp and 25 yards from the north shore, that it was driven on to the lake while it was frozen, then allowed to sink to the bottom once the ice melted. Thanks to the lake's frigid waters, the truck was surprisingly well preserved. Aside from a missing grille, a coating of mud inside, and a patina of rust on the sheet metal, there was little damage to the truck despite its long rest in the lake. With an engine full of lake water and the damage done by roughly sixteen freeze-thaw cycles, the truck will never run again, but its condition is a good testament to the build quality of those old Rams. It certainly held up better than that '57 Plymouth Belvedere they buried in the time capsule under the Tulsa city courthouse.
