1974 Dodge D800 Medium Duty Truck Original Oleynik Rod Shop Race Car Hauler 413 on 2040-cars
Columbus, Ohio, United States
1974 Dodge D800 Truck Factory Oleynik Race Car Transporter. In 1974 Chrysler commissioned Oleynik Body of Detroit to create six Drag Racing Team haulers. Of these (1974-78 body style) trucks, two were assigned to Gil Kirk’s Rod Shop Dodge team of Columbus, OH, one to Sox & Martin, one to Roy Hill/Petty, one to Butch Leal and one to Landy/Lambeck. Two of these rigs were later assigned to Paul Rossi This particular rig hauled cars for team drivers Bob Riffle, Gene Dunlop, the Fink Brothers, Arlen Vanke, and Ronnie Sox. After the Rod Shop retired from racing at the end of the 1977 season the rigs were returned to Chrysler. The truck remained on an MSO until 1987 when it was sold by Chrysler to Bill Hancock and Arrow Racing. Arrow was a long time engine development contractor for Chrysler. I purchased this truck directly from Arrow when they closed their shop in 2007.
The body plate says “Kirk Racing Cars” (Gil Kirk’s Rod Shop). 181” wheelbase, 28 foot box, dual 50 gallon fuel tanks, hardwood floors in excellent condition, sleeper, 38 foot total length. 10 foot height. Originally painted all white with red Rod Shop stripes, later the cab was painted red, Arrow Racing painted the truck black and added the Mopar Performance livery in 1987. Box sides and integral slide-out ramps are aluminum. Rear roll-up door is wood, but is starting to rot and should be replaced. Original, numbers matching 413 2-bbl, 5-speed manual, 2-speed rear, 25,000# max GVW, air brakes. Professionally maintained by Chrysler racers, engineers and mechanics its entire life! Some rust in bottom of doors, rockers and inner fenders. Cab and floors are solid. The cabs on these trucks are IDENTICAL to all 1972-80 Dodge standard-cab pickups. That means that doors, glass, rubber, etc. is all available aftermarket. Lamps and lenses were manufactured by the aftermarket originally and are still available. Interior trim is identical to 1972-76 pickups. The truck currently has Dodge Daytona cloth buckets. Originally the cabs were bare steel, except for carpet and door panels. Aluminum diamond plate running boards and lower box sides (will shine like chrome if you have the patience). Fiberglass roof fairing. New 4412 Holley carb, new Carter electric fuel pump, fresh tune-up, good brakes. 22.5” Alcoa aluminum wheels with one additional spare. Includes owners manual, service manual and original sales brochure. Runs and drives. Truck has been off the road for ten years and requires minor maintenance. Truck was last driven on a twenty mile excursion in November 2013. To travel any distance it should be transported on a flatbed to your location unless you have strong mechanical abilities. Yes, I have offered this truck for sale previously, at a higher price, but I now realize that I do not have the resources to do this truck justice. 614-580-9428 |

Weekly Recap: Toyota propels hydrogen fuel cells
Sat, Jan 10 2015Toyota is serious about hydrogen fuel cells, and it wants the auto industry to follow suit. The Japanese automaker said this week it's releasing 5,680 fuel cell patents from around the world, including technologies used on its upcoming sedan, the 2016 Mirai. The move is unusual, but not unprecedented, as Tesla similarly released its electric vehicle patents last year. The idea for Tesla, and now for Toyota, is to spur development of alternative propulsion. "By eliminating traditional corporate boundaries, we can speed the development of new technologies and move into the future of mobility more quickly, effectively and economically," said Bob Carter, Toyota Motor Sales senior vice president of automotive operations, in a statement. Toyota's fuel cell patents will be free to use through 2020, though patents related to producing and selling hydrogen will remain open forever. Toyota said it would like companies that use its patents to share their own hydrogen patents, but won't require it. "What Toyota's doing is really a logical move, and really a good move for the industry," Devin Lindsay, principal powertrain analyst with IHS Automotive, told Autoblog. The announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It comes as Toyota prepares to launch the hydrogen-powered Mirai in a limited number late this year in California. The launch will be extended to the Northeastern United States next year. Toyota also has announced plans to support networks of fueling stations in each region to try to smooth consumer adoption. The Mirai has a 300-mile range on a tank of hydrogen, and it takes about five minutes to refill. Fuel cells have been receiving increased attention recently, and Audi and Volkswagen debuted hydrogen-powered cars at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Honda, another proponent of the technology, also showed its updated FCV concept in November in Japan. The company, however, has delayed its fuel cell sedan a year until 2016. Like Toyota, Honda says its hydrogen-powered car will have a range of 300 miles or more. Meanwhile, Hyundai currently offers leases for fuel-cell powered Tucsons, which have a 265-mile range, in Southern California. Despite the optimism some automakers have for fuel cells, the technology still faces barriers. A lack of filling stations has long held it back, and many consumers are not familiar with the potential benefits.
2013 Dodge Dart gets brace of new special edition models
Thu, 16 May 2013After almost a year on the market it, it is becoming more clear to Dodge how customers like to option out their Darts, so the automaker has combined popular features into three special edition packages and sweetened the prices. Start with a standard 2013 Dart and add either the SXT or Limited "Special Editions" or Rallye Appearance Group, and you'll save yourself a lot of box checking.
The $595 Dart SXT Special Edition takes the trim just above the base model and adds a new grille, dark-tinted headlights and projector fog lights, LED racetrack taillights, cruise control and audio controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Limited Special Edition starts with the top-end model and adds a power sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and Nappa leather seats among other features, for $1,810.
The Rallye Appearance Group (pictured) is a package for the SXT, and it blacks out the front fascia, throws on 17-inch wheels and some badging for $395. The new special editions are reaching dealers now and could help the Dart's sales to further improve after a slow start. You can find out more about them in the press release below.
Dukes of Hazzard reruns dropped amid Confederate flag controversy
Thu, Jul 2 2015Those Duke boys are in a mess of trouble again, as TV Land announced Wednesday that it will be dropping the classic 1980s action-comedy the Dukes of Hazzard from its roster. But it may not be Bo and Luke's fault this time. Rather, it appears to be the changing political landscape. Entertainment Weekly reached out to TV Land, which is devoted to airing episodes of classic TV series, but it had no further comment. While the network didn't say why the episodes were removed, EW speculates that the cancellation is part of the reaction to the racially motivated murder of nine people in a historic black church in Charleston, SC, last month. The shooter was often photographed carrying a Confederate flag and other trappings of white supremacy. Since the tragedy, Confederate flags are being dropped from state houses, license plates, and toys. Last month, Warner Bros. said it would stop producing toys featuring the rebel flag, including a die cast miniature version of the Dukes of Hazzard's trademark ride, The General Lee, which was a bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag plastered to the roof. The same week as the shooting, the Supreme Court decided that states can reject license plates featuring the stars and bars as part of the states' right to free speech. Nine states currently use the flag in license plates, and the ruling will allow Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee to remove the motif from their state's plates. Georgia is also considering redesigning its plates in the wake of the shooting. For our younger readers, the Dukes Of Hazzard was a television show that aired from 1979 to 1985 on CBS. It feature the antics of the Duke boys in a fictional place called Hazzard County, GA. Related Video:
