The truck was purchased in 1988 after I advertised in the Selkirk paper for an M37 with a  winch. At the time I owned another M37 that did not have a winch and I wanted to put a winch on that truck, as it was a very good truck. However, the new acquisition was stored in Winnipeg and the truck I wanted to put the winch on was stored out at the lake. Because of the close proximity of the new truck, I started taking it apart and eventually it was disassembled completely. After that, I had the pieces steam cleaned and then sand blasted. All the major components were painted by Frontier Toyota body shop when it was on Fort Street. The engine was rebuilt by Piston Ring and the transmission and transfer case by Central Standard Transmission. The winch was done by Prichard Engineering. I put all the pieces back together. The truck safety inspection was done by Mobile Brake and Clutch. The M37 was used by the Military up to about 1978. It is rated at 1500 lbs cross county and 3000 lbs on the highway. The Canadian military purchase these trucks from late 1951 to 1955. In the USA they acquired these trucks starting in late 1951 and continued acquisitions through 1968. Mechanical parts for the trucks are readily available from dealers in the States and many but not all body parts are still available. Tailgates, front fenders, driver’s side doors, are difficult to find NOS.

The trucks have fairly low gear ratios, 5.83, to enhance the cross-country capability, resulting in lower highway speed. Many owners that are not driving cross country have changed the differential gears to  4.89 which result in slightly higher road speeds. Most American trucks do not have a hard top and were equipped with a canvas top that can be removed. The hard top is just bolted on and could be changed to a soft top.

The military had various add-on kits to adapt these trucks to various conditions or uses. For example, there is a fording kit to allow these trucks to drive through water up to the depth of the drivers head. The fording kit is included with this truck and has extensions to extend the exhaust pipe and air breather vertically to allow operation under water. All the wiring harness connectors are individually water proof connectors. The spark plug wires, distributor, generator, voltage regulator, etc. were all sealed with water tight connectors. A hot water cab heater was a kit for cold weather. This kit is mounted on the left front fender. It is a NOS kit and is mounted on the truck. An Arctic heater kit was available to heat the engine coolant and circulate hot water through a heat exchanger in the battery box. This equipment was fired with gas from the fuel tank and electric fuel pump. One of these units is mounted at the bottom of the passenger front fender. This get is also NOS(new old stock). The arctic heater kit, because it was gas fired allowed the operator to warm up the engine anywhere without electricity.

Mopar highlights wild SEMA creations, AWD Challenger Concept

Tue, Nov 3 2015

Thanks to 15,345 square feet of display area, FCA US' Mopar division certainly has ample space to display its parts and accessories at the SEMA Show. To lure attendees to check out all of those cars and components, the company is now revealing ten tuned vehicles for this year's aftermarket event. This isn't even the brand's whole fleet for the show, but it includes some major highlights for Dodge and Ram fans. A lack of traction traditionally makes rear-wheel-drive muscle cars dismal to drive when the weather gets slippery, but the Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept (above) solves that age-old problem at SEMA. In addition to powering all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, it boasts an angry-looking, wide-body kit with aggressively flared wheel arches. The asymmetrical stripe with Header Orange accents also adds some extra panache to the Destroyer Grey and Matte Black color scheme. The coupe can back up the macho look thanks to the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit that adds 75 horsepower and 44 pound-feet of torque to the 5.7-liter V8. However, before you get too excited about driving one this winter, FCA US spokesperson Ariel Gavilan tells Autoblog: "It is only a concept." Mopar isn't done tuning Dodges for SEMA. The Charger Deep Stage 3 shows what's possible with the company's catalog by packing the Scat Pack 3, strut tower braces, coilover suspension kit, and bigger brakes. Meanwhile, the blacked-out Dart GLH Concept tries to harken back to the style of the famous Omni GLH by fitting a red-accented body kit, including a Mopar Performance aluminum hood. If the standard Ram 1500 Rebel is somehow too subdued, check out the Rebel X (right) in a vibrant shade called Copper. To be ready for anything offroad, it wears some muscular flares to fit 17-inch beadlock wheels and 35-inch Toyo tires. A concept, two-piece front skid plate protects the front. Drivers should also be comfortable no matter where they drive thanks to prototype Katzkin leather seats and a concept air-ride suspension. Chrysler enjoys some mods, as well. The 300 Super S has suave style with Matte Cerulean paint, concept 22-inch wheels, and a grille with little Mopar Ms dotted around it. Performance also sees a boost with a tuned engine, bigger brakes, and coilover kit. The gray 200 S Mopar is similarly stylish with a complete body kit, including a conceptual, dual-vented hood. Fiat and Ram's commercial models aren't left out of the SEMA fun, either.

Dodge Journey gets more SUV-like look with new Crossroad model

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

Looking to play up its aging three-row crossover, Dodge will introduce a new model for its Journey franchise at next week's Chicago Auto Show. The 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad will be a new trim level positioned between the SXT and Limited, and it will be distinguished from other Journey models thanks to a handful of styling add-ons.
Plucking a page right out of the appearance playbook of the Ford Explorer Sport, the Journey Crossroad gets a meaner, more SUV-like demeanor. The Journey has often straddled the line between tall wagon and crossover, but this new trim goes a long way toward skewing its visuals toward the utility vehicle end of the spectrum. That's thanks largely to the Platinum chrome exterior trim on its roof rails and side sills, unique fascias, smoked headlights and taillights and, of course, those black 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Journey Crossroad will get a similar treatment, with darker, Liquid Graphite accents throughout the cabin, and the model will also come standard with leather seats (which Dodge says are a new design), and Chrysler's giant 8.4-inch Uconnect screen.
The 2014 Journey Crossroad goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $24,995 (*not including $995 for destination) for the four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive model, but Dodge says that the model will also be offered with more power and capability from the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and all-wheel-drive. Scroll down for the full press release, and check back next week for our live coverage from Chicago.

Dodge Scat Packages add Mopar performance upgrades in three stages

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Dodge has revealed what it calls Scat Package Stage Kits that enhance the performance of the Charger and the Challenger equipped with the 5.7-liter V8, and the Dart equipped with the turbocharged 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine. The Scat Packs use Mopar performance parts that also can be bought separately. Most of the upgrades increase engine output, but Dodge somehow manages to not specifically mention the power gains associated with each Scat Pack.
The three Scat Packs offered for the V8-powered cars focus on higher power ratings, and each stage comes complete with a unique engine-management calibration to optimize output. Stage one comes with a cold-air intake and a cat-back exhaust; stage two adds a performance camshaft; and stage three really gives you the goods, adding ported polished cylinder heads and performance headers.
For the Dart, the Scat Packs focus on engine, transmission, chassis and brake upgrades. Stage one will net you a cold-air intake, a short-throw shifter and slotted rotors with performance brake pads; stage two adds a cat-back exhaust system and an engine-management calibration to increase output by taking advantage of premium-octane gasoline; and stage three adds 13-inch vented brake discs up front clamped by four-piston calipers, suspension with adjustable springs and struts and performance front and rear antiroll bars.
