SELLER REMARKS |

This 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger was Chrysler's way of building a performance car without raising any eyebrows: a V8 in a compact, lightweight package. Today, these cars might be considered ideal sleepers, as their unassuming looks and reputation as low-performance grocery getters allow people to forget that they use their ideal power-to-weight ratio quite effectively in street combat.
OK so it's not a Hemi-powered Road Runner, but it would be a mistake to underestimate this snarling little Dart. Nicely finished with good, straight bodywork and a better-than-average code Y-2 Yellow paint job, this is definitely a car you'd think twice about before the light turns green. The combination of the bright bodywork and painted black top, along with a set of Cragar mags give it a performance look that transcends the humble Dart body style. Fit and finish are impressive for such an affordable car, and it's nice to see that they didn't feel the need to spruce it up with fake hood scoops and extraneous stripes. Instead, there's a simple black rub strip along its flanks, which emphasizes the super-straight bodywork, and all the original badges remain. Chrome bumpers look heavy-duty enough to fit on the front of a locomotive and they shine up quite nicely.
Inside, it's a standard black bench seat interior, but that's exactly what you want from your low-profile street fighter. The seats are so nice, I have to believe they have been recovered and they're firm enough that there's got to be new foam underneath. Black carpets on the floor match the headliner overhead, and the door panels are nice enough to show. Looking at the dash, you've undoubtedly already noticed the A/C vents underneath, which was a dealer-installed option that still retains all the original components. Gauges are simple, aftermarket gauges were installed underneath the dash, which keeps them out of sight when you're out prowling the streets. There's also a powerful AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo system in the center of the dash feeding a pair of 6x9 speakers mounted on the rear package shelf. The trunk is also fully carpeted, adding a luxurious touch.
The code G in the fifth spot of the VIN means his car did, indeed, come from the factory with a 318, so even back then it was probably a ton of fun. Rebuilt about 800 miles ago, it's a superb runner and a few performance tricks mean it's quite a bit stronger than it was 40 years ago. The engine bay is clean and functional, but not necessarily detailed for show; after all, who wants to worry about getting their engine dirty when they're prowling the streets looking for a fight? The standard cast iron exhaust manifolds dump into a true dual exhaust system that gives this little Swinger a big of a growl and the 3-speed automatic shifts like it should. The rest of the chassis is 100% stock but remains in good order thanks to living down south. Finally, those Cragar wheels I mentioned earlier carry 215/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials that fill the fenders perfectly.
Call it a sleeper, or the last of the breed, or even just a nicely refinished cruiser that you can use any time, and this Dart starts to look like a lot of fun. With a rumbling V8 soundtrack, effective A/C, and reliable hardware, this car has already earned its street cred. If you think it would look good in your garage, give us a call today!

In a show of generosity in mid-August, Detroit's business leaders donated $8 million to the Police Department and Fire Department in order to buy 100 new police vehicles and 23 EMS ambulances. But now officers have discovered - and complained - that the police vehicles have glaring safety issues, Deadline Detroit reports. It is not made clear what models of the fleet vehicles - which include police versions of the Ford Taurus, the Chevrolet Caprice and the Dodge Charger - are affected by the safety issues.
Officers reportedly have complained that the Plexiglass partition separating front-seat officers and back-seat prisoners is easily breached, and that the front passenger seat is installed too close to the dashboard. Prisoners who manage to writhe out of their handcuffs can bend the Plexiglass and reach into the cockpit, and sitting too close to the dashboard can render airbags more dangerous and make officers more vulnerable to injury in a crash.
Mark Diaz, president of the Detroit Police Officers Association, received the complaints and reportedly said the vehicles would get safety updates addressing the issues. But Deadline Detroit reports that it checked some of the offending police cars and, as of the last few days, they hadn't been updated.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's get the most salient bit of information out of the way right off the bat: $63,995*. That's the amount of money Dodge dealers will be asking for (at the very least, naturally) for a 2015 Charger Hellcat (*plus $995 for destination on all pricing figures). That rather reasonable sum will bring home its buyer a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine boasting a supercharger to post such gaudy figures as 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, leading to a top speed of 204 miles per hour to go along with an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 11.0 seconds.
With that out of the way, the rest of the 2015 Dodge Charger pricing information breaks down as follows: $27,995 will deliver a sedan with a 292-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Moving up one step of the ladder nets the buyer an SXT model with the same engine, but a nicer chunk of technology and optional equipment for a $2,000 premium. All-wheel drive adds another $3,000. Hemi V8-powered R/T models now boast an eight-speed transmission bolted to the same well-loved 370-horsepower engine as before, for a base price of $32,995.
The SRT 392 model that had hitherto been the top-performing Charger brings with it an asking price of $47,385 while bargain hunters can equip a Charger R/T Scat Pack machine with that same 485-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi, albeit with somewhat less posh interior bits and pieces, the removal of the 392's adjustable suspension and hi-po wheel and tire package for $39,995.

MONZA, Italy (Reuters) - Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has not received any offer for the company nor is the world's seventh-largest carmaker working on any "big deal", Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne said on Saturday. Speaking on the sidelines of the Italian Formula One Grand Prix, Marchionne said the focus remained on executing the company's business plan to 2018. Asked whether FCA had been approached by someone or whether there was an offer on the table, he simply said: "No." The company's share price jumped to record highs last month after reports of interest for the group or some of its brands from China. China's Great Wall Motor Co Ltd openly said it was interested in FCA, but had not held talks or signed a deal with executives at the Italian-American automaker. The stock move was also helped by expectations that the company might separate from some of its units. Marchionne reiterated on Saturday that FCA was working on a plan to "purify" its portfolio and that units, such as the components businesses, would be separated from the group. He hopes to complete that process by the end of 2018. "There are activities within the group that do not belong to a car manufacturer, for example the components businesses. The group needs to be cleared of those things," he told journalists. Asked whether an announcement could come this year, Marchionne said it was up to the board to decide and that it would next meet at the end of September. He said the time was not right for a spin-off of luxury brand Maserati and premium Alfa Romeo and the two brands needed to become self-sustainable entities first and "have the muscle to stand on their feet, make sufficient cash". "The way we see it now, it's almost impossible, if not impossible, to see a spin-off of Alfa Romeo/Maserati, these are two entities that are immature and in a development phase," he said. "It's the wrong moment, we are not in a condition to do it." He said the concept of separating the two brands from FCA's mass market business made sense and did not rule out this happening in future, but not under his tenure, which lasts until April 2019. "If there is an opportunity in future, it would certainly happen after I'm gone. It won't happen while Marchionne is around," he said.
