For sale is a restored 1972 Plymouth Scamp with its original drivetrain.
History: I purchased the Scamp from the original owner about 4 years ago. The Scamp is a California car and the owner parked it in his shed back in 1996 and didn't drive after that. There was no rust on the Scamp and the odemeter read 96k miles, which the owner said hadn't turned over. Exterior: The exterior was originally B3 blue with a white vinyl top. Most of the body was taken down to bare metal and sprayed with metal lock primer. There wasn't much dents to take care of and the body is pretty straight. I preferred the B5 blue color, so the Scamp was sprayed with several coats of PPG brand B5 blue. The paint was covered with several coats of PPG brand clear. I preferred a black engine bay and trunk so that's why they are not painted the same as the exterior. The paint has about 5k miles on it and looks very good but has a few touch up areas since the Scamp is a driver. I have about a 1/3 of a gallon of the PPG B5 blue paint left, so if you wanted to paint the engine bay, trunk or fix the touch up areas you could. All the glass looks good, windows roll up very nicely and the windshield is new. All the chrome, bumpers and grill are original and are in good shape. New weatherstripping and new vinyl top. I have the fender and rocker panel chrome moldings, I prefer how it looks without them. I added the 340 hood scoops, dual black trunk stripes and the Cuda flip gas cap. The metal around the flip gas cap was not altered and you can be put the original gas cap back if you don't like the look of the flip top. Drivetrain: The original 318 engine has been completely rebuilt with all new components and added a new Edelbrock intake and new Edelbrock 4 barrel carb. The original 904 automatic transmission was also rebuilt. The Scamp got dual Flowmaster exhaust and they sounds great. The rebuilt drivetrain has about 5k miles on it, runs great and you can drive the Scamp anywhere. The Scamp is an A/C car but I didn't hook up the A/C or its components, I didn't like how it looks on the engine. I still have all the A/C stuff if you wanted to hook it up but I don't know if it works or not. Interior: Most of the interior is new, except for the seats and door panels. The seats and door panels are original and are in great shape with no rips or tears. The interior metal was originally B5 blue and received the same treatment as the exterior. Everything works on the Scamp except for the heater switch. I believe the switch is bad or since I didn't hook up the A/C maybe there something that wasn't hooked up. I really don't need a heater that bad in California, so I just hooked the heater motor to the map light toggle switch. The AM radio is not hooked up but works. There is a CD player mounted underneath the A/C vents with two speakers in the back and one under the dash. I have the original steering wheel. Wheels: The Scamp has 17" Showwheels Streeters with Falken tires. The wheels have about 5k miles on them. I also have the original steel wheels, hubcaps and they have new tires on them. On the last several pictures, you can see the decoded fender tag and the Scamp taken completely apart. The Scamp has a clean California title and has it's original California blue license plates. SRT back to Dodge, Dart SRT, new Challenger, Charger and Caravan's death outlined in 5-yr plan
Tue, 06 May 2014The onslaught of news from Fiat Chrysler's layout of five-year plans continued with Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis this morning, including the unexpected announcement that SRT was coming back into the fold.
After just a few years existing as an independent entity within the Fiat Chrysler universe, an unceremonious press release hit in conjunction with today's lineup of announcements, saying "the SRT family of vehicles will be consolidated under the Dodge brand." Group CEO Sergio Marchionne thanked SRT headman Ralph Gilles for his dedication to the high-performance wing, calling out is efforts in expanding the vehicle lineup and including more customized models. He did not reference disappointing SRT Viper sales today, but we sense there's a bit of subtext.
With the SRT reunion at Dodge, it's appropriate that some of the most exciting product announcements for the next five years have to do with upcoming performance products. First out of the gate will be a refresh for that flagging Viper in 2015, which comes as little surprise.
Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
Toyota, Lexus dominate KBB's Best Resale Value Awards
Tue, 19 Nov 2013Toyota and Lexus stormed the 2014 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards, winning a combined 18 categories including best brand and best luxury brand. This marks the third year in a row that both automakers have won the Brand and Luxury Brand resale value awards. In all, Toyota won 11 categories and Lexus won seven.
Honda made a good showing, as well, winning two segments (Accord Plug-In Hybrid and Civic Si) and putting one car on the top-10 Best Resale Value list (CR-V). Chevrolet did even better, winning two segments (with the V6 Camaro and the Corvette) and placing three cars on the top-10-overall list (again, the Camaro and Corvette, plus the Silverado 1500).
The other winners came from Jeep, Dodge, Infiniti, Subaru and Audi. To give you a clearer picture of the Toyota and Lexus domination, their 18 mentions represents more than half of the 34 awards (including the top-10-overall list).
