1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 (LM23H0R169xxx) factory 340c.i. numbers matching original engine.  The Dart has a heavy duty 727 auto trans, factory B5 Blue paint, original 8 3/4 rear with 3.23 posi, factory front disc brakes, factory front end sway bar, factory Rallye dash with tachometer, original thumbwheel AM radio, Rallye wheels with correct Goodyear polyglas E70-14 tires, 340 hood scoops, factory correct 340 chrome tips, stunning high gloss factory B-5 Blue base/clear paint and a factory 340 white trunk stripe (V8W). The correct bucket seats and floor console were added some time ago (was bench seat car factory).

This 340 Swinger is a very correct  car that has many of correct factory items including: factory original air cleaner,  radiator (2998978), intake (3462848), exhaust manifolds (2863553 & 2863549), leaf springs (3400081) and factory original torsion bars (2535893 & 892).  It is also believed to be original 67k mile car (as stated on title and info from previous owner).  The Dart has it’s original VIN tag, fender tag, and still has the original door VIN decal with a build date of 11-1969.  This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest bodied 1970 340 Darts that you will find that is very correct and has original engine and all original sheet metal.  There were only 5,004 automatic 1970 340 Dart Swingers built.

The Dart has been restored about 8 years ago to it’s show condition and I just finished a light restoration on it to take it to the next level!  This car is awesome and you will be highly impressed!  The Dart will be an excellent car to be driven on nice days to shows and cruises.  A restoration of this caliber takes a lot of time, patience and money to be done correct.  Please understand this is not your average “driver” condition 340 Swinger!!!

I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 25 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale.  This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos.

Please call Chad at 412- 496- 1439 with any questions. Thanks!

Paint and body

The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight.  The doors close absolutely beautiful and can be pushed shut with the ease of your finger!  The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish.  This long process alone took over 40 hours and the finish shows it!  The Dart's sheet metal is believed to be original including the quarters, doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid, floor boards, trunk floor and trunk extensions, frame and even center of the trunk floor is excellent!  It was painted around 8 years ago and has no paint blisters or bubbles and looks fantastic.  There are two paint brushed marks both are under the rear door edges where the quarter and rocker seems meet (they are the size of a pencil eraser).  The bottom rocker panels are also in excellent shape, very clean, not full of bondo.  You can clearly see all of the factory spot weld on this car it is amazing!

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good original condition.  All the glass is original Chrysler date coded glass.  There are only a few very small minor scratches.  The windows operate as should and line up excellent.  The wing vent window chrome is in beautiful original condition.  They open and close like new and there is no pitting in the chrome like most!  The bumpers are in excellent rechromed condition.  The door handles and driver side mirror are in nice condition.  The trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with a package tray, carpet and seat covers.  The front seat covers (Legendary Auto) were put on several years ago and look excellent.  All gauges work and operate correctly.  Even the factory Tachometer works great!  All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, glove box light, cigarette lighter, and license plate light.  The factory AM thumbwheel radio works great.  The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan and horn all work as should.

 DRIVE TRAIN

The strong running numbers matching 340 makes excellent power and runs great.  The 340 is believed to be in it’s original condition.  The 340 sounds great and I would drive this car anywhere!  It is topped off with the original factory cast iron intake # 3462848 and Carter AVS (#4682s) (1969 383HP carb) 4-barrel with factory choke.  The numbers matching 340 has a casting date of 7-10-69 and the ID Badge has the VIN# stamped on it.  The block casting number is 2780930-340.  The factory numbers below the driver side head are FW 340 P30310098 making it a 1970 windsor plant motor built on Nov 14th 1969 and was the 98th motor made.  The rebuilt 727 transmission is shifts beautifully through all gears.  The 727 has a very mild shift kit and feels great anyway you want to drive it.  The 8 3/4 appears to also be original to the car and still has the original factory tags on it for the 3.23 posi center section and the use limited slip lube only tag.  This excellent drive train combo runs and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving.

Hypermiling a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to 38.1 mpg

Fri, May 9 2014

You never quite know what Wayne Gerdes has up his sleeve. The man who coined the term hypermiling is always looking for adventurous ways to prove that anyone – even you... yes, you – can eke out more miles per gallon just by changing the way you drive. Saying that is easy. Proving it by going on outlandish cross-country drives is hard. But for Gerdes and his team of fuel economy fiends over at CleanMPG, hard is half the fun. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. Which is why we always answer the phone when Gerdes calls. He likes to take journalists along on his drives, not only to try teach us how to hypermile but also to prove that we can be taught. The first time I 'helped' him and his team was when we got over 30 miles per gallon in a 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. The EPA rated that truck with at just 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. So, we'll count that trip as a success. Next up was a cross-country drive last fall in a trio of Audi TDI vehicles to prove that you don't need to drive extra slow to beat the EPA numbers. In fact, we made it from Los Angeles to New York City in just over 46 hours, cramped but not cranky. We had once again proven that how you drive is hugely important to your fuel usage. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. The EPA says that the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel we would be driving gets just 22 combined mpg (19 city and 27 highway). Gerdes' idea was to drive it as far north from Houston, TX towards Detroit, MI as we could go on one tank. The day before we left, our itinerary got an extra stop. Instead of taking one of the official Shell Eco-marathon prototype vehicles to Detroit, it was decided to bring the winning diesel-powered prototype from the just-finished event to The Henry Ford Museum, where it had been arranged the car would be displayed. The winning car was built by a small team (just four students) from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, IN, who managed to beat a number of college teams with a score of 1,899.32 mpg. That target would be a bit out of reach for the Ram, but could we get 1,000 miles from the tank? Since the truck has a 26 gallon tank (officially, anyway), that would mean the EPA says we could only go 702 miles, assuming all highway driving. Could we make up 300 miles with careful driving? That spells both challenge and fun.

Mopar maneuvers into SEMA with a multitude of modified models

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

As the aftermarket and performance arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mopar has a duty to extract everything from the company's models that it can, and there's no better place to show all of its work off than the annual SEMA Show.
Dodge really gets in on the act this year with several customs to show off different parts of the brand's performance heritage. Perhaps the most interesting among them is the track-prepped Viper ACR Concept (pictured above). It wears a custom body kit to produce even more downforce, thanks in no small part to a monstrous wing at the back. To shed weight, most of the interior is stripped out, as well. Next up, the Challenger T/A Concept takes inspiration from '70s Trans-Am racing in a livery of Sublime Green and matte black paint. The center scoop in the hood keeps the 6.4-liter V8 fed with cool air, and the special's 20-by-9.5-inch matte black wheels keep it planted in the corners.
Also getting the once-over from Mopar is the Charger R/T. It wears the division's body kit, and under the hood, a cold-air intake keeps the 5.7-liter V8 breathing. The suspension is retooled to hold the road better with a coil-over kit, upgraded sway bars and strut tower braces for the front and rear. The company is also showing off a snazzy blue Charger with a mean look. The final Dodge getting work from Mopar is the Dart R/T Concept with bright, O-So-Orange paint and a matte black hood with a scoop hooked directly to the air intake. The performance-oriented design is finished off with a coil-over suspension and big brake kit, as well.

NHTSA investigating Chrysler for airbags, ignition switches

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Chrysler is being targeted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a pair of actions that focus on over 1.2 million Jeeps, minivans and crossovers.
The first is a "preliminary investigation" that focuses on an airbag issue afflicting the Jeep Commander built in model years 2006 and 2007 and Grand Cherokee from 2005 to 2006. In total, 700,000 vehicles could potentially be affected. It's not entirely clear what the airbag issue is, with The Detroit Free Press simply stating that the restraint systems in the affected Jeeps may be "faulty."
The other investigation is what's called a "recall query" and it covers a problem that General Motors should be familiar with. In this case, there could be a problem with the ignition switches of 525,000 vehicles, ranging from 2008 to 2010 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, to the 2008 to 2010 Dodge Journey crossover. Again, it's not entirely clear what sort of behavior prompted the 32 complaints that NHTSA has received on these vehicles.
