Chrysler set to make $266M-investment into 8-speed transmission production

Chrysler will shortly make a significant $266-million investment into its Kokomo, IN transmission factory in a bid to expand production of its eight-speed automatic transmissions. The gearboxes, which are built under license from Germany's ZF Friedrichshafen, have been well received by customers and critics, and according to an SEC filing obtained by Automotive News, the transmissions will eventually find their way to all of Chrysler's rear-drive offerings (Viper and heavy-duty Ram models, aside). According to AN, a Chrysler spokesman says the investment has not been confirmed, but once it is, it'll mark the company's latest in a growing line of investments at the facility. Chrysler has poured $1.5 billion into Kokomo since 2009.

Hennessey's Dodge Challenger Hellcat cranks out 1,032 hp

Enthusiasts know the Dodge Challenger Hellcat produces 707 horsepower. It's one of the modern muscle-car era's iconic numbers. But for some, that's not enough. Enter Hennessey Performance. There's also an an improved fuel pump, and the engine and chassis are specially calibrated. You also get numbered plaques signed by John Hennessey himself and the engine tech who builds your mill. All of this helps get your Hellcat to 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds, and it can do the quarter mile in 9.9 seconds at 142 mph. The Hellcat and it's 6.2-liter blown Hemi V8 are not for the faint of heart. Hennessey makes this Dodge downright demonic. It makes all of these myriad options extremely easy to pick from, and there are even four resolution settings to see your creation in the best possible way. Prices for the GTC start at $94,995 and deliveries are set to start in the second quarter of the year. Although, even if you have no intention of buying one, specifying these custom coupes is still highly entertaining.
