This truck underwent significant restoration after I purchased it. The engine is a Roadmaster rebuilt. At the time it was professionally installed, the transmission was also professionally rebuilt as were the front end mechanicals. Together, they have about 22,000 miles on them. The upholstery, interior door panels, dash cover, windshield, soft top, bed liner and tonneau cover and tires were replaced or added at the same time the truck was repainted black cherry. It is a rare 4X4 and it is equipped as described below. It has been kept under cover except when it is driven.
This was the first postwar production ragtop pickup and Dodge billed it as " the ultimate fun truck."
The Dakota Sport convertible features a manual vinyl top that can be folded back or completely removed. The unique hauler is based on a two-door pickup with a metal roof on its cab, and was assembled at Chrysler's Dodge City truck complex in Warren, Michigan. From there, the trucks were shipped to American Sunroof Co., (ASC) several suburbs away. ASC sliced the roof off and added the necessary components to turn it into a convertible for open-air excitement.
These Dakota Sport convertibles were sold as either a 4X2 or shift-on-the-fly 4X4 with a base price of $14,425. All ( only in 1989) trucks came fitted with a 125-hp fuel injected V-6 mated with a five-speed manual or optional three-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment included an integral padded sport roll bar, 15-in. cast-aluminum wheels, a tachometer, an AM/FM stereo cassette radio, deluxe wipers, power steering, power windows and door locks, dual remote outside mirrors and fog lights.
Dodge produced these convertibles in 1989, 1990, and 1991. In 1989, 2842 of these were built, 909 were built in 1990 and only 8 in 1991.
This was and is a unique vehicle. Make it yours.

Dodge Challenger Scat Pack adds power and noise, with a warranty
Thu, 17 Apr 2014If you want to go fast, there's certainly nothing wrong with the Dodge Challenger SRT8. With 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque for 2014, there's certainly not much to complain about. But what if you want something more aftermarket in flavor? There's no shortage of options, but while turning to the tuner world will make your car plenty fast, that extra power won't just shred rear tires, it'll torch your warranty, as well. That's where Dodge's Scat Pack comes in.
With three stages of mods for both the 5.7 and 6.4-liter Hemi V8s Challenger (as well as the 5.7-liter Charger and, soon, the four-pot Dart), the Scat Pack cars give drivers all the power, aggression and noise of a heavily modded aftermarket car while maintaining the piece of mind provided by the Dodge warranty.
Power gets bumped up to 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque with the 6.4-liter Scat Pack, while the 5.7-liter can provide up to 58 hp and 47 lb-ft of torque to add to the stock engine's 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet. It's the latter engine that can really get some work done, with upgrades ranging from the mundane - intake and exhaust - to the racy, like the ported heads and high-flow headers.
Watch dual-engined Dodge SRT4 do a FWD burnout, a RWD burnout, then AWD launch
Wed, Dec 3 2014There's something fantastically insane about racers who go out on their own and build something unique. Just take this crazy video from last year of a twin-engine Dodge SRT4 at a drag strip that can burn the rubber at either end – or both ends – at a moment's notice. With tires sticking out way past the fenders, a massive cooling system at the front and no back window to speak of, this Dodge is clearly meant solely for speed. Though it's real party trick is being able to spin the front or rear wheels independently. The setup makes for three quite showy burnouts. When it came time to actually get down the track, things got somewhat awkward. Like other twin-engine creations we've seen, the separate powertrains make for some odd sounds and a weird look launching down the strip. Still, there's no doubt that the engineering behind this Frankenstein is very impressive. Scroll down to see this monster in action and another of it in a very mismatched race last year. 1 Of 1 Dodge Viper looks a fabulous mess in Chicago
Fri, Feb 13 2015Earlier this year, we told you about the new Dodge Viper 1 Of 1 program, which offers buyers the chance to customize their supercars to the tune of some 25 million different combinations. With 8,000 paint colors, 24,000 hand-painted stripe patterns, 10 wheel options, and 16 interior trims to choose from, you'd be right to think that the possibilities for personalization are endless, and can probably get a little weird. That's kind of what's going on here in Chicago, with a Viper showcar that's definitely... unique. It doesn't really look bad, necessarily. It's just kind of strange. We call this color job, "Oh no, there are tiny paint cans falling from the sky, but I simply can't stop driving 200 miles per hour." And when it came time to spec wheels, it looks like FCA US said, "Aw heck, let's just use all of 'em." You'll definitely want to take a look at this unique creation, in the gallery above. And be sure to let us know if you think this Viper is hot or not, in Comments. Related Video:
