BEAUTIFUL GROUND POUNDING 1965 Dodge Coronet

When it came to all-out performance in 1965 there was certainly a name in town and it went by the name of Dodge. Most gearheads began to take notice of the division's industrial strength coronet after it set eight speed records during the 1963 NHRA season. And once that same car kicked off the 1964 NASCAR season with a Richard Petty led 1-2-3 finish at the Daytona 500 the brand was firmly established as one of Detroit's premier sources of power and speed. This 1965 Dodge Coronet was built with attention to detail and always draws crowds at the local shows. Below are some brief details of the build.

-This beautiful rustfree car was dissembled and stripped to bare metal. A fresh coat of Dodge Maroon was applied and then clear coated. The trim was polished and bumpers and taillight bezels were rechromed. Many NOS parts were used in the restoration including the grille. The trunk was done in the correct two tone spackle.

-The interior was restored including seats, door panels, and headliner. The dash is super nice.

-The driveline of this beast consists of a vintage 1970 440 Block, 10-1 Compression, worked 906 heads, Lunati Hot Street cam, Aluminum Edelbrock intake with a Demon Carb, 727 Trans(Manual Valve Body) with shift kit, 11 inch Street fighter converter, Complete 3" Exhaust with DynoMax mufflers.

-The car sits on new tires(Drag Radials) with torq thrust wheels bolted to a 8 3/4" with 355 Gears, Drag shocks, Super stock springs, disc brakes.

So this is the magic formula, all wrapped up in a low-key package and ready to rock. The drive train is virtually bulletproof, the parts are all high quality, and the workmanship is very good. The 440 was placed in a body that was ment to have a smaller implant therefor you have a very potent street fighter that isn’t ashamed to show up at the local cruise and pop the hood. This is another one of those cars that you just couldn’t duplicate for the asking price. And did I forget to mention that its an original bigblock 383 car? And just try to find a similar Coronet anywhere! Set up to run, fully sorted, and 100% reliable, this is a lot of fun in an inexpensive package. 260-225-9373

Dodge Viper ACR reportedly green lit [w/video]

Fri, Feb 6 2015

The Dodge Viper might be getting a little more venomous in the near future thanks to a return of the performance-honed ACR trim. According to an anonymous source leaking the info to Allpar, the version would go into production in July as a 2016 model year vehicle. FCA US showed a concept for a future ACR (pictured above) at the 2014 SEMA Show that sported carbon fiber parts for the front splitter and dive planes, plus a picnic-table-sized rear wing. The body also received ducts at the rear to shoot cool air to the differential. A set of 15.4-inch carbon-ceramic brake rotors also brought things to a halt in a hurry. The company promised all the aero pieces were sculpted in the wind tunnel to give the coupe even more downforce. To shed weight, engineers chucked the radio, speakers, carpet and sound deadening out of the interior, and they replaced many bits with even more carbon fiber. All of the tweaks are necessary because the ACR moniker carries serious cachet for the Viper at the track, especially at the Nurburgring. One reportedly did a 7:22 lap around the 'Ring in 2008, and another improved that further to 7:12 in 2011. Autoblog reached out to FCA US for comment about the possibility for the hotter Viper, but the company wasn't willing to comment about any possible, future projects. Related Video:

Only in Japan: Dodge van one-make racing series is a thing

Wed, Jul 15 2015

Japan seems willing to embrace a level of automotive insanity that many other places lack. Whether it's 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-Rs blasting through tight, tree-lined mountain roads or advertisements with dances for the Toyota Prius Plug-in, the country definitely has a unique way of expressing a love for autos. The D-Van Grand Prix might be one of our favorite examples yet of crazy Japanese car culture, because the annual, one-make race at the Ebisu Circuit is exclusively for heavily customized Dodge vans. Like many great things, this wonderfully crazy idea came from a little rule breaking. D-Van Grand Prix organizer Takuro Abe was at a track event for a motorcycle racing school, and vans were used to haul the bikes around. During lunch someone came up with the idea for a race. Ignoring that the big machines weren't actually allowed on the circuit, the drivers headed out. The popularity has just grown since then. These days, the racing vans absolutely aren't the stock machines from the event's inspiration. In addition to stripped interiors and track rubber that you might expect, the list of mods for them is a mile long. For every possible advantage, the racers fit them with things like Brembo brakes, cross-drilled rotors, heavy-duty transmissions, and much more. Seeing vans lumbering around the track is very weird at first, but the racers take the competition very seriously. These folks even employ all sorts of little tricks to coax the most from the machines. This is a fascinating motorsports story, but be sure to turn on the subtitles to understand the interviews with the competitors.

Dodge shows can-do attitude with grand Can'avan sculpture

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

There are lots of ways to celebrate an important birthday, and all of them are well deserved. You can throw a big party, buy yourself something nice, or - if you're the altruistic type - do something for others in need. The latter is how Chrysler has opted to mark the 30th anniversary of its Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.
Together with hunger-advocacy organization Canstruction, the Chrysler Foundation has built a full-scale replica of the Grand Caravan out of 30,000 food cans in the square at the corner of Yonge and Dundas in Toronto, a ways down the highway from where the real vans are built in Windsor. The sculpture was built over the course of 10 hours by 30 volunteers and was displayed earlier this week.
Now the installation is being taken down, and the cans of food are being donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank, which will assemble them into 2,000 food baskets to be distributed to those in need through its network of 200 food banks across the Canadian metropolis. Check out a neat time-lapse video of the build and the press release below.
