I'm listing our 1965 Dodge Coronet 440 two door hardtop. The first 4 photos were taken last spring, and the rest were taken this week.  My son bought it in 2012 to work on while in Technical College, but it's not really what he wanted so it's up for sale.  It had been sitting under a shelter in central Georgia for 25+ years when the guy we bought it from got it.  He painted everything under the hood black, red, and silver for some reason, and the wheels blue. He also removed the gas tank and strapped a 5 gallon gas can inside the trunk.  At least he ran a vent line outside the trunk!  The original motor was gone when he got it and it has what is believed to be an early 70's slant six in it now.  Our plan was to put a 383 in it and convert the three on the tree to a floor shift four speed, but it never happened.  It is a driveable project, but needs brakes, floor pans, a gas tank , and a new battery to be road worthy. Odometer now reads 6021, but actual mileage is unknown.  According to the Fender Tag it was originally a 361 big block car with 3 speed manual transmission. It has a three speed manual on the column. It is a manual steering, manual drum brake car. It has the factory remote driver mirror, and variable speed wipers. The variable speed wiper motor works, but one piece of the linkage is missing from under the dash.  The taillamp lenses are cracked.  It still appears to have what's left of the original Dark Turquoise Metallic and White paint. It need a complete restoration to be nice, but it is the most solid unrestored mid 60's Mopar I've seen in a while. The passenger compartment floors are in poor shape, but AMD makes a correct reproduction one piece floor pan for this car. It had some import bucket seats, but I bought a 63 Polara split bench seat to go in it. Both rear quarters need patch panels where the quarter panel rolls under to the trunk drop-off. The front fenders have a very small amount of rust on the lower rear of the wheel openings, and there are a few small holes on the top of the driver fender as shown in one of the photos (with a nickel there for comparison). The trunk floor and the rest of the body is solid, but there are some minor dents and dings present. There is surface rust on the hood with some pitting, but I couldn't find any holes.  Underneath the hood (including the front lip) is clean and solid.  There is no broken or cracked glass, but the windshield is fogging around the edges. The grille and front bumper will need to be replaced. The decklid has a dent and the rear lip of it is badly rusted so it will need to be replaced.  The rear bumper would be a good core for rechroming. The tires have held air ever since we got it and it rolls very easy, but the tires are dryrotted.  I have had the door and ignition locks rekeyed so they match and work smoothly.  If it sells with the buy-it-now option, I will include a set of NOS taillamp lenses. We have a clear Georgia registration for the car in our name because Georgia doesn't require a title on a vehicle this old. I have sold quite a few old vehicles to title state buyers with a notarized bill of sale and a copy of my Georgia registration and none had any problems getting the vehicles titled in their state,  so getting a title in Florida or another title state won't be a problem. Although the car runs and drives, I would recommend trailering it due to the bad brakes/tires.  A deposit of $500 through paypal is required within 24 hours of auction end, and balance due within 7 days.  I will accept personal check for the balance, but neither the car nor the paperwork will be released until the check has had sufficient time to clear the bank. I would consider delivering the car up to 250 miles from Statenville, GA 31648 for $2.10/loaded mile.  If you have any questions or would like to see any other pictures let me know.  Thanks.

Continental Automotive recalls 5 million airbag control units

Thu, Feb 4 2016

Takata isn't the only supplier having airbag problems. Rival manufacturer Continental Automotive Systems announced a recall of 5 million airbag control units fitted to vehicles from Honda, Fiat Chrysler Automotive, Mercedes-Benz, and even a certain Chrysler-based Volkswagen. This sweeping recall has actually been in progress for some time, although the exact scope is only now becoming evident. In October of 2015, Mercedes-Benz recalled 2008 and 2009 model year C- and GLK-Class vehicles because their Continental-made airbag control units could corrode. Such a condition could cause the airbags to deploy without cause or warning, or in the event of a crash, not deploy at all. You can read all about it in our post from last year. Now, Continental's recall is going wide. Alongside the already recalled C and GLK, you've already heard about the 2008 and 2009 Honda Accord airbag recall, which we reported on yesterday. Now, Fiat Chrysler is announcing the recall of the 2009 Dodge Journey, as well as the 2008 and 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, and their rebadged counterpart, the Volkswagen Routan. Yes, one manufacturer is recalling another manufacturer's vehicle. The models listed above only amount to about 580,000 vehicles out of 5 million bad airbag control units. And since Continental will notify manufacturers who will then issue their own recalls, it's extremely likely that more brands and vehicles will be ensnared. Stay tuned. Stellantis reports $15B profit in first year of merger

Wed, Feb 23 2022

FRANKFURT, Germany — Automaker Stellantis said Wednesday that it made 13.4 billion euros ($15.2 billion) in its first year after it was formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group. The earnings nearly tripled profits compared with its pre-merger existence as two separate companies, as the maker of Jeep, Opel and Peugeot vehicles exploited cost efficiencies from combining the businesses. The result compared to a combined 4.79 billion euros for the separate companies in 2020 before the merger, which took effect on Jan. 17, 2021. Revenue for the combined business rose 14%, to 152 billion euros. CEO Carlos Tavares said the results “prove that Stellantis is well positioned to deliver strong performance" and had overcome “intense headwinds” during the year. Automakers have struggled with shortages of key parts such as semiconductor electronic components and rising costs for raw materials as the global rebound from the worst of the coronavirus pandemic brings more demand. The company said the benefits of the merger were worth some 3.2 billion euros during the year. Mergers can lead to streamlined costs as companies combine functions and spread fixed costs over a larger revenue base. The company accelerated its rollout of battery-powered vehicles, with sales of low-emission vehicles reaching 388,000 — an increase of 160%. Stricter environmental regulations in Europe and China are pushing automakers to roll out more electric vehicles with longer range. Stellantis started production of a hydrogen fuel cell commercial van under its Opel brand in December. Stellantis' other brands include Chrysler, Citroen, DS, Fiat, Maserati, Ram and Vauxhall. Only in Japan: Dodge van one-make racing series is a thing

Wed, Jul 15 2015

Japan seems willing to embrace a level of automotive insanity that many other places lack. Whether it's 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-Rs blasting through tight, tree-lined mountain roads or advertisements with dances for the Toyota Prius Plug-in, the country definitely has a unique way of expressing a love for autos. The D-Van Grand Prix might be one of our favorite examples yet of crazy Japanese car culture, because the annual, one-make race at the Ebisu Circuit is exclusively for heavily customized Dodge vans. Like many great things, this wonderfully crazy idea came from a little rule breaking. D-Van Grand Prix organizer Takuro Abe was at a track event for a motorcycle racing school, and vans were used to haul the bikes around. During lunch someone came up with the idea for a race. Ignoring that the big machines weren't actually allowed on the circuit, the drivers headed out. The popularity has just grown since then. These days, the racing vans absolutely aren't the stock machines from the event's inspiration. In addition to stripped interiors and track rubber that you might expect, the list of mods for them is a mile long. For every possible advantage, the racers fit them with things like Brembo brakes, cross-drilled rotors, heavy-duty transmissions, and much more. Seeing vans lumbering around the track is very weird at first, but the racers take the competition very seriously. These folks even employ all sorts of little tricks to coax the most from the machines. This is a fascinating motorsports story, but be sure to turn on the subtitles to understand the interviews with the competitors.
