RARE!!! STORAGE FIND!!! 1 of 1,774 8 cylinder and 1 of 1,857 TOTAL (6 cylinder & 8 cylinder) Challenger Convertibles produced for 1971. Research online suggests that only about one third, of the original 1,857 Dodge Challenger Convertibles produced in 1971, still exist!
This 1971 Dodge Challenger Convertible, with was is believed to be 97,154 actual miles, has been sitting in a storage unit for the past 10 years. It has a 318 engine and an automatic transmission with a slap stick shifter. Factory correct RT bulge hood. Options on the Challenger include: air conditioning, automatic transmission, bucket seats, center console, power brakes, power steering, power top, and power windows. There is an aftermarket Sony CD player, headers, exhaust, intake, and a 4 barrel Holley carburetor currently installed on the the vehicle. I have the factory intake, air cleaner assembly, and carburetor. They're all included in the sale. After I acquired the Challenger I inspected the fluids, installed a new battery, and put some fresh gas in the tank and it fired right up. The starter sticks a little. A new one is included in the sale, as noted in the last picture. I drove the Challenger around for about 1/2 hour and everything is functioning as it should. It runs, sounds, and drives great! That's all I've done to the car. It still has all of the dust and cobwebs as I found it when it was sitting in the storage unit. The exterior of the Challenger appears to be pretty solid with just a few areas on the bottom of both doors and lower rockers where the paint is bubbling and flaking. The left fender has a few areas of bubbling paint as well. The underside appears to be pretty solid. The interior of Challenger is in good shape, with no rips or tears in the seats. The convertible top has 2 small 1/2" to 1" tears. Overall, the Challenger is in good shape and appears to be pretty solid. This auction is being offered at NO RESERVE with an ultra low opening bid! The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.
Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
Dodge not being dropped by Chrysler, CEO reaffirms

Despite some rumor and speculation over the future of the crosshair grille and the cars that wear it, Dodge brand boss, Tim Kuniskis, sat down with TheDetroitBureau.com, explaining that the marque isn't going anywhere. His sentiments echo those of SRT boss Ralph Gilles, who told a group of enthusiasts in July that "Dodge is here to stay!"
Dodge's death won't be "a part of a master plan to consolidate brands," Kuniskis told TheDetroitBureau.com. Instead, the brand, which is ultimately under the command of Fiat/Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, will likely ditch some of its badge-engineered models, like the Dodge Grand Caravan. A more focused Dodge, which was something Gilles has already hinted at, will likely see it exploring areas of the market that haven't been exploited by other Chrysler brands.
Kuniskis, not surprisingly, wasn't willing to delve into any detailed product plans, telling TDB that the size of the brand's lineup "remains to be seen." Regardless of how big the brand actually ends up being (it is presently Chrysler's volume brand - and not by a little), hopefully the statements from Kuniskiss can put the rumors of a Dodge closure to bed.
