1971 Dodge Challenger on 2040-cars
Fairmount, Georgia, United States
I am putting my 71 Dodge Challenger up for auction due to a recent lower back injury that has greatly limited my range of motion so I am not able to progress forward with my plans I had for this car. Anyone wanting to come and look this Challenger over prior to placing a bid is more than welcome to come see it. It is located on highway 53 between Fairmount and Calhoun Georgia. Please contact me phone numbers so I can arrange for someone to meet you and how you the car.
NOTE: I purchased this Challenger in the state of Alabama which did not issue titles for cars until 1973 (per the DMV) so I am selling this Challenger with a Bill OF SALE ONLY. In the past when I lived in a state needing a paper title for an older vehicle I used International Title Services out of Las Vegas,NV to obtain a title. There are other companies which can help you obtain a paper title but I cannot speak for their services. ITS did a good job for me when I used them and got me a title I used when I lived in North Carolina. I have listed in the know condition of the vehicle what I do know about this Challenger. It is not a numbers matching car. The VIN decodes to a vehicle from the factory with a 383 in it but know has a 440 in it, casting date in 1969 and installed in a 1970 model vehicle per the numbers on the machined pad on the block above the oil pan. I purchased this Challenger which has a set of Hurst Lightning Rod shifters in it which limits the installation of the normal console top plate, P-R-N-D-L2-L1 lighted shift indicator and woodgrain stick on applique (decal). I planned on changing it back to a slap stick shifter or 4 speed since it was setup at one time with a 4 speed but I am auctioning it off as is since I can't do the bending necessary to do the work associated with changing the shifter setup. The swing pedal assembly setup for a manual transmission is still in the car minus the clutch pedal. The smaller sized brake pedal is still in the vehicle and the hole for the 4 speed shifter has been covered over with sheet metal under the carpet on the drive shaft tunnel. The car has a brand new Edelbrock model 1411, 750 CFM carburetor on it and Edelbrock Torquer manifold. I think whomever purchases this car is getting a solid car that they can work with and turn into an excellent show piece with a bit of work. Car has solid front and rear floor pans, trunk floor, quarter panels, doors, fenders, hood etc etc. I have decoded the casting numbers and stampings (below) that I have located on the 440 engine block
HEADS:
Other engine parts information I found on a handwritten piece of paper in the documentation I received with this car. Crankshaft - 3512036 Rods - 3462426 When I initially saw this car the previous owner was doing a bearing inspection on it and I ask him to write down any part numbers he could locate while doing the bearing inspection/change out so I did personally located the engine numbers but did not personally look at the crank and rods but am listing, above, what I found in the cars documentation. SPECIAL NOTE: I have a complete 6 pack setup that will bolt right up to this engine plus matches the casting date of the engine within a day of it's casting (engine date-11-7-69, 6 pack cast iron manifold casting date 11-6-1969 (intake #2946276) ADDITIONAL PHOTOS available upon written request. Just let me know what view of the Challenger you would like to have. This Challenger is For Sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction if the car sells locally. I am receptive to discussing offers but at the price I have this Challenger listed at I am losing almost $5,000.00 so please don't expect me to give this car to you. On Sep-23-14 at 16:36:17 PDT, seller added the following information: REV#1:Additional photos posted. Many are asking for these pics & it is a bit easier to post them here than send 30 individual e-mail replies. Interior pics will be added tomorrow afternoon. |

Dodge Challenger spied exercising supercharged Hellcat Hemi V8
Wed, 23 Oct 2013One of the prime complaints against the Dodge Challenger is that, even in SRT8 guise, its 470 horsepower is responsible for hauling over 4,200 pounds of vehicle. For comparison, the 420 hp in the Ford Mustang GT only has to deal with 3,618 lbs. Things only get worse from there, as the higher-performance variants of both the Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro are far more powerful than an SRT8 without adding on much heft.
So what is Chrysler to do? The correct answer is add a whole lot more grunt to its hefty two-door and even the odds. That's where the all-new Hellcat engine comes into play. We reported on this engine in May, and suggested that the Hellcat, a supercharged powerplant based on a 6.4-liter V8, would easily generate 500 to 570 hp and could likely arrive boasting more than 600 ponies.
Chrysler's ace in its sleeve has now been spied testing, with a number of Hellcat-equipped Challengers running the potent new engine both in more urbanized areas and under the sun of Death Valley. The hoods on these testers have been raised to accommodate the engine, and that camouflage over the fascias of these prototypes is there to hide a larger air intake. We also note what appears to be a new split grille under wraps. As for power output, our spies are now suggesting a Viper-equalling 640 hp from the Hellcat-equipped cars.
Dodge not being dropped by Chrysler, CEO reaffirms
Mon, 16 Sep 2013Dodge isn't going anywhere. Despite some rumor and speculation over the future of the crosshair grille and the cars that wear it, Dodge brand boss, Tim Kuniskis, sat down with TheDetroitBureau.com, explaining that the marque isn't going anywhere. His sentiments echo those of SRT boss Ralph Gilles, who told a group of enthusiasts in July that "Dodge is here to stay!"
Dodge's death won't be "a part of a master plan to consolidate brands," Kuniskis told TheDetroitBureau.com. Instead, the brand, which is ultimately under the command of Fiat/Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, will likely ditch some of its badge-engineered models, like the Dodge Grand Caravan. A more focused Dodge, which was something Gilles has already hinted at, will likely see it exploring areas of the market that haven't been exploited by other Chrysler brands.
Kuniskis, not surprisingly, wasn't willing to delve into any detailed product plans, telling TDB that the size of the brand's lineup "remains to be seen." Regardless of how big the brand actually ends up being (it is presently Chrysler's volume brand - and not by a little), hopefully the statements from Kuniskiss can put the rumors of a Dodge closure to bed.
Dodge PHEV due in 2022 expected to be the Hornet
Wed, Aug 11 2021A relatively new saga involving hornets in the Pacific Northwest begins with the adjective "murder" and gets worse from there. A relatively dated saga involving hornets in the automotive industry begins with the name "Dodge" and is — or could be — much friendlier to plant and animal life. Last year, former Dodge parent company Fiat Chrysler trademarked the term "Dodge Hornet" for the first time. Two months ago, an Italian publication credited its sources with news that current parent company Stellantis will create a Dodge version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale (pictured) and call it the Hornet. Now, Mopar Insiders picked up on Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares sharing a roadmap of the 20 PHEV and battery-electric vehicles coming our way in the next two years between the company's 14 brands. Dodge merits a single PHEV entry in the 2022 column. MI says this will be the Hornet.   As FCA recast its U.S. lineups to give Dodge more focus and give Chrysler a reason to exist, Dodge lost the Caliber, Nitro, and Journey. The way this new report is put, and as we mused a year ago, the coming Hornet will replace the Journey — a space Dodge could do well to return to. Never given much love by the parent company, the Journey turned into a hoary old thing over its 13 years on the market, but sold in remarkable numbers to the end. According to Car Sales Base, sales increased nearly every year for the first nine years of the Journey's life. Even during the sales decline over the last four years of its production life, the Journey found 298,594 homes in the U.S. More than 12,000 zombie units have been moved off lots this year. A Dodge Hornet likely wouldn't offer the Wal-Mart rollback pricing the Journey was known for. Also, the Hornet would pack in just two rows, whereas the Journey offered three. Nevertheless, we're now talking about three vehicles sharing major internal organs; the Alfa Romeo Tonale leans heavily on the Jeep Compass platform and internals, and the Dodge is expected to be built at the same Naples, Italy plant as the Alfa Romeo. The economies of scale are there. As for powertrain, we know there's a Tonale PHEV coming, but it's thought to get its plug-in system from the Jeep Renegade 4xe that's based around the smaller 1.3-liter four-cylinder with either 190 or 240 total horsepower instead of the larger 2.0-liter engine in the Wrangler 4xe.
