 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE - True JS29 California Car

Up for auction is a rare factory 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE, B5 Blue/White Vinyl Top with Blue Interior, with only 44,000 documented original miles.  This is a true “JS29” RT/SE car, not a replica or clone.  Have Title, Fender Tag, maintenance documentation, etc.  This car was manufactured in the Los Angeles, CA plant but was also built for CA emissions, making this a California car.  The car is now located in Denver, CO.  This car is 100% Rust-Free - GUARANTEED!!!  The only filler you’ll find on this car was used for leveling of the panels. The car has all of its original body panels, except for the trunk which was professionally replaced.  Even the lower quarter panels are still original, all frame rails, engine compartment, floor boards, battery tray, etc are 100% rust free…please see pictures on Photobucket.  This is an original “N” code RT/SE Challenger, which means it came with a 383 originally.  However, that engine was replaced with a 1970 date correct (F)440 engine very early on in life (still has original 727 transmission.)  Other than the engine, the car retains most of all it’s original equipment.

The History of the Challenger:

Built in LA for California in late 1969, where it spent little time on the road.  The 440 engine was swapped into the car sometime in California.  I know this because I still have the Colorado Vehicle Inspection Report from 1988 (see photobucket), listing the 440 as the engine and the car only having 21,039 miles…that’s an average of just over 1,000 miles per year!  Since then I have maintenance records documenting the vehicles miles to present day.  The car actually has only had two sets of tires installed on it, the second set is still on the car.  They were installed in 1991 when the car only had 37,201 miles…which means the current tires only have 7,000 miles on them.  The car was taken off the road and stored inside in 1993, please see the picture of the Colorado registration tag for the year 1994 that never made it on the vehicle’s license plate.  The car was placed on jack stands for the past 20 years until it was recently repainted its original color (B5 Blue) had a new vinyl top installed, gone through and reassembled.  The car retains all of its original interior!

What makes this car Unique/Rare:

-          The obvious, it’s a rare RT/SE with only 44,000 documented miles.

-          It’s an original California car.

-          The car actually has a factory mis-stamp body/frame.  All of the numbers on the body are exactly 1,000 digits off.  Lets me explain, the VIN # is JS29N0E112194, this VIN number is also found on the Title, Fender Tag, Transmission, Drivers Door sticker, etc.  However, all stamps on the body show the last 6 digits of the VIN# to be “111194”, the cowl under the windshield, the radiator support stamp, the trunk, etc.  All date codes match throughout the entire car.  So the factory should have stamped the body with the 3rd of the 6 digits being a (2), instead they mistakenly stamped it with a (1).  While this doesn’t take away from the value of the car, some people consider these cars to be even more valuable since there are only a handful of cars that were factory mis-stamped.  Please see all pics of the vehicles body stamps on Photobucket.

-          This car is also a factory B5 Blue car with the matching Blue interior.  Great color combo…all the replicas or clones are always done in black or white interior.

-          This is a factory A/C car, with all A/C equipment still on the vehicle.

-          Original Factory 8-track (now has aftermarket 8-track)

-          Rim-Blow Steering Wheel

-          All Original Interior (including factory Vinyl Seats with Cloth Inserts)

-          3 Speaker Dash

-          Factory front disc brakes/sway bar

-          8 3/4 Rear End w/ 3.55 gears

-          Original Spare Tire still in trunk, along with jack

-          Date Correct Tinted Glass

-          I think this car has every piece of Chrome or Stainless trim that was available in 1970, including rocker panel moldings.

The Good:

The doors, trunk, etc. all close great and sound extremely solid.  All Gauges, lights, inside and outside the vehicle work.  The drives extremely well and floats down the road, no rattles, shaking, vibrations, rides just like new.  Goes straight down the road, can take your hands off the wheel and the car will drive in a perfectly straight line without with the steering wheel even turning…amazing for a car that’s 44 years old!!!!!  Car had a factory undercoating applied, and all of it is still adhered to the bottom of the vehicle.  All the lines on the car are straight, it’s never been wrecked.  There is probably little more I can say that hasn’t been already, or that you can’t see for yourself in the pictures here on Ebay, or the 160 pictures on Photobucket.  There are also numerous videos loaded of the car being driven around my neighborhood, running, walk-arounds, videos of the electronics working, etc.  This car is in amazing shape, from bumper to bumper!

-          New Carpet

-          New Paint

-          New Vinyl Roof

-          All Polished Stainless

-          New Plugs/Wires

-          New Electronic Ignition

-          New Carb Rebuild

-          All New Weatherstripping

-          New Fluids/Filters

-          Etc.

Email me for the link to the photos on Photobucket, Ebay will no longer allow you to post links in your descriptions.

The Bad:  (I’m being really picky here…)

- Ummm…I guess the door panels have some scratches in them, so those could be replaced if you really wanted to be picky

- There appears to be a very minor transmission leak (putting some stop-leak in would likely fix it)

- Clock in the dash doesn’t work

- Has an electric fuel pump (some people really like these, I don’t personally)

- The roof rail weatherstripping was in good condition, but I wanted to replace it to match the rest of the car.  It’s already been purchased and comes with the vehicle.

- Missing ashtray in center console

Shipping/Payment/Warranty/Deposit/Bidding

Shipping and handling will be paid and arranged by the Buyer.  I can assist with loading and making the vehicle accessible, but will not bare cost of freight or arranging of delivery.  I will not ship outside of the US.  A Deposit of $500 is required within 48 hours of auction closing to my PayPal account.  Remainder of payment will be made in cash, cashiers check, or money order.  Full payment will be fully processed and cleared before vehicle will leave my possession.  There is no warranty associated with this vehicle, car is “as-is”.  All bidders having zero feedback needs to contact me via email before bidding or your bid will be cancelled.  No scammers please.

Questions/Viewing Vehicle

Please contact me via email if you have any additional questions regarding the car, need more pictures, pictures of specific items, or would like to setup a time to view the vehicle.  I am located in Denver, CO and will make myself available to anyone wanting to come by and view the car in-person before securing.  I will provide you with my phone number and we can arrange a time from there.

Reserve Amount

The reserve for this car has been set at $45,000.  I feel that this is a very fair price for a car of this originality, low-mileage and condition.  I actually anticipate the auction superseding that amount.  The last 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE 440 I saw being sold on Ebay had an asking price of $82,000.  That car didn’t sell by the time of the auction end, but since it was not relisted I feel that the seller may have accepted a price slightly lower than his asking price.

PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA EMAIL FOR THE PHOTOBUCKET WEBSITE THAT HAS ALL 160 PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF THIS CAR.

There is a reason why I have 100% feedback.  I want to be as upfront with you as possible with this car, so please ask all questions and view all pictures.  Thank you very much and Happy Bidding!!

Leno recalls '90s showdown with Tim Allen and his mullet

Wed, Oct 7 2015

Not many of us have buddies with garages full of classic cars, but that isn't the case for Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Of course, one of the advantages for two guys with such vast collections is occasionally getting to pit their cars against each other. The two comedians did just that in the mid-'90s with a burnout battle on The Tonight Show between Allen in a race-prepped Mustang and Leno in a drag racer. After some time away from regular television, Leno is returning to the airwaves with a Jay Leno's Garage series premiering on Oct. 7 (tonight) at 10:00 p.m. ET on CNBC. Let this clip serve as another taste of what to expect for the new TV show's mix of comedy and cars. After reminiscing about the old days in a gorgeous garage, the comedians get into two modern machines to reprise the classic challenge – after a little trash talk anyway. Don't worry because the YouTube series isn't going anywhere, though.

Are you the Dodge Dart SRT4?

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

Dodge has just confirmed that it will be bringing its newest Dart variant, the Dart GT, to Detroit next week, but we're still in the dark about when we'll see a truly hotted-up SRT4 version. But now, by way of the rumormill anyway, we've got at least one proposed, potentially Dodge-based rendering to light our way.
Seen here is what would appear to be a design sketch of the SRT4 Dart. Obviously the image that has surfaced is of rather low-resolution, but there's at least some evidence to support that it may be legitimate. In the original picture, one can just make out the name Tim Doyle in the lower right corner. As it turns out, Tim Doyle's name is also watermarked on the final design image for the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel Black & Tan, a model that was shown at SEMA in 2010.
Of course, even if this really is the work of Doyle, there's nothing to say that this image isn't one of a great many potential looks for the future SRT4. In fact, the departure of the cross-hair grille from the Dodge's nose seems like it could be a hard sell, though we do, naturally, dig the sleek hood scoop and the bulked up wheel/tire combination.

Chrysler recalling 49K Chargers for headlight components

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

Chrysler has issued a recall for about 49,375 2011 and 2012 Dodge Chargers with halogen headlamps due to a problem with the lights. The automaker says that there could be an issue with the jumper harness and other related components.
The automaker says that 43,450 cars are affected in the US, 2,850 in Canada, 375 in Mexico and 2,700 outside of North America. The vehicles will have their headlight assemblies, including the jumper harnesses and bulbs, inspected and potentially replaced. Dodge says that its engineers investigated reports of that were similar to what was found when it recalled about 10,000 police Chargers in 2012 for overheating light components. There have been no injuries or accidents related to fault, according to Chrysler.
The automaker will be in contact with affected owners, and schedule the service. Naturally, any repairs will be free of charge. Scroll down for the company's full announcement.
