Up for sale is my 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe, with 5667 miles. While I've only owned this Viper since March (2280 miles), I've invested a lot of time, effort and resources into this car. This is my fourth SRT-10 Viper, and was to be the car I held onto for a long time, as witnessed by the extensive modifications listed below. But, sometimes fate steps in and requires a new focus and dedication to family, so my dream Viper build has to be sold just as quickly as I bought it.
This car has a presence! The first thing you'll notice is the custom paint. After owning three previous Vipers, I really wanted something that would stand out from the crowd...even if the crowd is all Vipers! It's 2013 BMW Fire Orange, pulled straight from the Lime Rock Park Edition M3s. It's a true competition orange, lacking any pearl or metallic elements. It's a bold, robust and bright orange that looks incredible in every light. It's also a shade of orange never offered on the 2003-2010 Vipers, so there will be little confusion that you are in a special car! While the car was being repainted, I decided to paint match the factory red brake calipers and red valve covers Fire Orange. I felt that the OEM red would clash with Fire Orange, so I had them colormatched to match perfectly. The valve cover letters were also polished and then clearcoated to ensure easy cleaning and detailing in the future. The brake calipers are the same way, with new black Viper decals to tie it all in. Lastly, I painted the lower section of the rear fascia satin black. This section is normally only painted on the factory striped cars, but I really think it completes the look on the rear even without stripes. The most important appearance changes you can make to any car are wheels and stance. This Viper has both addressed, and really sets its apart from other Vipers. The wheels are 19x10 and 20x12 Forgestar F14s, finished in their Brushed Titanium finish. The tires are Toyo Proxes T1-R in 275/35R19 and 345/25R20 sizes. I've ran Michelins, Pirellis and Nittos over the years on my previous Vipers, and I really feel like these tires hook up the best on the street. Thankfully, I've never had to drive on them in the rain yet, so I can't comment on that. Hiding in plain sight behind the Forgestars are a set of drilled/slotted brake rotors to help improve the boring look of the stock rotors. I've swapped the factory shocks with BC Racing Coilovers to improve the stance and handling. These coilovers ride terrific, and while it's certainly firmer than stock, it's never jarring or unpredictable. Bringing the ride height down, coupled with the improved aftermarket wheel offsets, really create a dramatic look cruising down the street, or showing off at your local cruise-in. Ok...now onto the fun stuff! Nearly every single aftermarket and Mopar Performance accessory is already installed on this car! Starting with the Mopar Performance "Venom" Engine Controller, this ECU is a learning unit and will respond and adjust timing and fuel in real time as modifications are installed. In addition to eliminating all potential check engine light issues associated with performance modifications, it improves the drive-by-wire throttle feel and elminates the dreaded skip-shift feature. It also means you won't have to dyno tune the car anytime an additional modification is added. A K&N filter element has been installed, as well as smooth intake tubes that feed into the 2013 Viper Intake Manifold. This intake manifold has been proven to increase horsepower by as much as 25rwhp, as well as dissipate heat much better than the OEM aluminum manifold. Exhausting all this extra air is crucial, so high flow catalytic convertors were installed as well as the most desirable/expensive catback for a Viper, the Corsa 3" system. When you have the side exhaust pipes exiting just a few feet from your ears, drone management is ultra important. The Corsa is the best in the business, and allows you a quiet cabin while cruising and mildly accelerating. With that said, it really starts to scream in the upper RPMs! The weak engine and transmission mounts that tear as early as 10k miles have been replaced with much more rigid mounts from Woodhouse Performance. The last engine related component installed is an underdrive pulley for a few more horsepower. The remaining appearance modifications are light, as this is usually an area I concentrate on once the other areas are addressed. 15% window tint on the side and rear windows has been installed, as well as Lloyds floor mats and Mopar Accessories Stainless Steel door sill panels. A MGW short shifter has also been installed, which gets rid of that ridiculously tall OEM shifter. I've just changed the oil within 100 miles (factory SRT Filter and Mobil 1 Oil) and had a four wheel alignment performed. A new battery has been installed, as well as the K&N air filter listed above. It seems minor, but when they cost nearly $100/pair, it's worth mentioning...new wiper blades too! The car was involved in an accident in October 2013 and sustained passenger side rear damage. Insurance deemed it a total loss (due to deer avoidance) and paid the owner for the car, then sent the car to the insurance auction. It was purchased by a close friend of mine in Mississippi (who rebuilds Vipers), who I then bought it from in March upon repair. It now has a Maryland title and is completely clear and clean without any salvage reference (although eBay is making me list it as such) . Should you need to, it is much easier to secure a loan from most banks and credit unions for the full loan value with a clean title. The damage was so light that the only body parts that were replaced were the passenger side rear fender and the rear fascia. After adjusting the ride height one last time, I had the car realigned last week by my local alignment shop (picture included) and the owner assured me it was absolutely perfect. There was never any inner structure damage to the rear tub, telling of just how light the damage was. It was more of a concrete rail swipe than an actual impact. This Viper will provide you with many trouble free years and mileage. I bought it with 2280 miles, and have already had it through seven states and three 500+ mile trips up to its current mileage of 5667! While gas mileage isn't the most important aspect of owning a Viper, its worth noting I've gotten 22mpg on a few long distance trips (17mpg average). It's in great shape, sits perfect, and will look incredible from my garage to yours. It's impossible not to smile putting the pedal down on ~640 naturally aspirated horsepower, cruising down the highway with the windows down listening to the Corsa exhaust. It's an absolutely perfect toy car to start with, or add to, your collection. I will gladly help in getting the car shipped at a fair price at the buyers expense. Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]
Wed, 20 Aug 2014No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:
Buyer says Dodge dealer gave him wrong Charger, failed to notice for 2 months
Wed, Dec 31 2014Mistakes happen, and they happen all the time. But when that mistake means a customer doesn't get what he or she paid for, something's gotta give. That's what one Dodge Charger buyer claims he is trying to sort out with his local dealership. Two months after taking delivery, the owner (going by the user name Dakrbouncer4689 on Reddit) says he got a call from his local Dodge dealership reporting a little problem. He had ordered and paid for the Charger SXT (pictured above on the dealer lot), but was given a Charger SE instead. The SE being the lower trim level, this presented one set of problems – namely a $2,000 discrepancy in equipment, like a five-speed automatic versus an eight-speed, a 4.3-inch infotainment display instead of 8.4, heated seats, leather steering wheel, premium audio, remote starter and so on. The second set of issues is that the VIN number on the paperwork (including the registration and insurance papers) of course doesn't match that of the car itself. The dealer, having obviously made a rather large mistake, apparently called the owner in to sort out the mess, but according to the customer's account, things didn't go as smoothly. Instead of immediately working to address the problem, the salesman kept the owner waiting, acted like it was no big deal, and offered only to swap the cars with no compensation for the trouble. Fortunately, the manager proved more sympathetic and apologetic, and offered the customer three options: he could swap the cars (re-doing the tinted windows on the SXT that the customer had done on the SE and throwing in leather seats for free), he could keep the SE (with the dealership handling the paperwork, throwing in the leather seats, adjusting the price and refunding an extra $400), or they could cancel everything, return the car and part company. As we go to press, the Charger owner had yet to make (or at least share) his decision. But while the principle of caveat emptor makes us wonder how he managed to take home a different car from the one he paid for, clearly the salesman and the dealership made a pretty large mistake by presenting him with the wrong set of keys and letting him off the lot without double checking it all. 2014 Dodge Durango leaks ahead of NY rollout
Wed, 27 Mar 2013Even though Chrysler will reportedly discontinue the Dodge Durango after the current model's lifespan - said to be around 2016 - that isn't stopping the automaker from improving its full-size, three-row SUV. The vehicle won't debut at the New York Auto Show until tomorrow, but images are already leaking out ahead of the embargo lift, and they show that the 2014 model is getting even more aggressive styling to go with more technology inside and out.
Dodge limited its early press shots of the new Durango to just the R/T trim level, but this new look adds a meaner look to this model with more dramatic projector-beam headlights along with a "floating" crosshair grille and a restyled fascia. At the rear of the Durango, LED racetrack taillights show a family resemblance to the Charger and Dart, while a new rear fascia adds to the styling while also allowing for an integrated trailer hitch.
On the tech side, the instrument panel looks to have been redesigned to include a standard seven-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) gauge cluster, and it also appears as if Chrysler's well-liked UConnect system has been updated with the 8.4-inch touchscreen found in other Chrysler vehicles. The 2013 model's conventional console shifter has been replaced by a rotary knob for gear selection, suggesting that there are transmission changes afoot as well. We'll have more details when the silks slide off this big boy tomorrow, so stay tuned.
