Chrysler to accelerate production of 2013 Ram and V6 engines
Fri, 16 Nov 2012Chrysler is adding a third shift at its Warren Truck plant to meet demand for the new 2013 Ram pickup. And with tight supplies of its Pentastar V6, the company is also boosting output at its Mack Engine plant.
The expansions will add 1,250 jobs and are part of a $238 million investment by Chrysler in the Detroit area. Warren's third shift will begin work sometime in the spring, a Chrysler rep told Automotive News. Mack's increased Pentastar production a could include both 3.6 and 3.2-liter engines.
The company says it also plans to invest $40 million in its Trenton Engine plant to allow for production of a 3.2-liter V6 as well as the Tigershark inline-four for the upcoming Jeep Liberty replacement.

Fri, Nov 4 2016The custom-van craze was huge in California, back in the 1970s, and plenty of folks who would never have considered getting zonked on Acapulco Gold while listening to Elephant's Memory ended up buying Econolines and Beauvilles and Tradesmen with shag carpeting, bubble windows, and wild graphics. In fact, van buyers could get that stuff right from the factory. Most of those vans are gone now, but I found this used-up '78 Dodge in a self-service wrecking yard in California's Central Valley. Owners of custom vans felt strongly about their rides back in the Malaise Era. This one has the look of a vehicle that was used for beer-and-burned-meat-heavy tailgate parties at Oakland Raiders games. Such service is rough on a van. 2013 Dodge Durango R/T
Tue, 19 Feb 2013Not too long ago, Chevrolet got itself into some trouble by throwing the SS badge on just about everything it produced, so I've always been a little hesitant about the seemingly excessive use of the R/T nameplate on Dodge vehicles. For the 2013 model year, every model in Dodge's lineup has an R/T trim level from Dart all the way up to the Durango. Although the R/T name used to signified models made for road and track, I doubt anyone would be delusional enough to assume the Durango - and some of the other models wearing this badge - are suited for any sort of track duty.
Still, when this 2013 Dodge Durango R/T rolled up for me to drive for the week, I couldn't help but take in its big, mean and imposing stance. Sure, if I had my choice of buying any of the Dodge R/T products, the Charger and Challenger would be my top picks for sure, but it's easy to say that the Durango would be a close third - far above the R/T versions of the Avenger, Journey and Grand Caravan.
