I have decided to sell my 2003 Dodge Ram SLT CREW cab ( 4 door ) with the rare 5.9 liter V8 engine. It has been a secondary vehicle for me and just used to run to Home Depot occasionally. I've decided to sell it and get a smaller more fuel friendly truck.  It has 164,400 miles, an automatic tranny, pw, pl , cruise, tilt, cd player with iPHONE charger/dock built in. It has the 4wd 4x4 and is black with dark interior. There is also a cold air intake, aftermarket dual exhaust with a nice rumble, side steps, and a front leveling kit. it has the factory 20" chrome rims with good tread on the tires. If you are familiar with the 2003-2006 Dodge Rams than you are aware that they ALL have the common rust over the wheel wells as well as had an oxidation problem on some of their paints. The truck did have oxidation fading from the sun on the hood, roof and parts of the bed, so last year I had those areas sanded and prepped with black primer as well as did a repair on the quarters, but some of the rust has come through again. It never bothered me in the primer, but if it did, you could just give it a fresh coat of paint. it has a bed liner and a TRAC RAC. The Rhode Island inspection sticker expires at the end of September. I installed a Brand New Battery last night (9/14/14).  The 4x4 work great.

The a/c compressor went bad beginning of last winter, so I just had my mechanic bypass it with a smaller belt and it runs fine. you could replace it or just leave it.

this would be a perfect work truck, first vehicle, or a second car for running to the dump. Due to the age and mileage, this is being sold with NO WARRANTY.

Quirks:
the check engine light randomly comes on for a few days, then goes out for a few weeks. It never seems to affect the truck so I haven't bothered with it.

the serpentine belt might need to be adjusted as it occasionally squeals at start-up for a minute or so until its warmed up. Doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally.

the hood release lever under the hood (not the release inside under the dash, that works fine) broke of before i bought it, so the previous owner just adapted a lever behind the front grille and it works fine.

The truck runs good with no major issues that im aware of.

I will add better pics including interior tomorrow.

there is a $500.00 non-refundable deposit due at end of auction.  I will not ship the truck, but will assist the buyer any way i can

9/22/2014 UPDATE: Just wanted to ad that the truck also has a factory tow package with the hitch as well as the plug built into the bumper.  I never towed anything with this truck and I don't believe the previous owner ever did either.

Also, I have a Clear Rhode Island title in my name.

Hypermiling a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to 38.1 mpg

Fri, May 9 2014

You never quite know what Wayne Gerdes has up his sleeve. The man who coined the term hypermiling is always looking for adventurous ways to prove that anyone – even you... yes, you – can eke out more miles per gallon just by changing the way you drive. Saying that is easy. Proving it by going on outlandish cross-country drives is hard. But for Gerdes and his team of fuel economy fiends over at CleanMPG, hard is half the fun. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. Which is why we always answer the phone when Gerdes calls. He likes to take journalists along on his drives, not only to try teach us how to hypermile but also to prove that we can be taught. The first time I 'helped' him and his team was when we got over 30 miles per gallon in a 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. The EPA rated that truck with at just 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. So, we'll count that trip as a success. Next up was a cross-country drive last fall in a trio of Audi TDI vehicles to prove that you don't need to drive extra slow to beat the EPA numbers. In fact, we made it from Los Angeles to New York City in just over 46 hours, cramped but not cranky. We had once again proven that how you drive is hugely important to your fuel usage. Our latest adventure appeared, at first glance, to be nearly impossible. The EPA says that the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel we would be driving gets just 22 combined mpg (19 city and 27 highway). Gerdes' idea was to drive it as far north from Houston, TX towards Detroit, MI as we could go on one tank. The day before we left, our itinerary got an extra stop. Instead of taking one of the official Shell Eco-marathon prototype vehicles to Detroit, it was decided to bring the winning diesel-powered prototype from the just-finished event to The Henry Ford Museum, where it had been arranged the car would be displayed. The winning car was built by a small team (just four students) from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, IN, who managed to beat a number of college teams with a score of 1,899.32 mpg. That target would be a bit out of reach for the Ram, but could we get 1,000 miles from the tank? Since the truck has a 26 gallon tank (officially, anyway), that would mean the EPA says we could only go 702 miles, assuming all highway driving. Could we make up 300 miles with careful driving? That spells both challenge and fun.

Is America's last cheap minivan worth it?

Wed, Dec 16 2015

Take a good look at this beauty. Because once she's gone there may be no turning back. The minivan market has been completely decimated over the past fifteen years. I could list all the former brands (dead and alive) that once formed the lynchpin of parenthood for this inherently conservative market. But that would involve at least fourteen commas, three sets of parentheses, and possibly even one 2000s-style recount. Back then, middle-class America loved these people-movers and even the well-to-do were glad to load them up with unique luxuries such as power sliding doors, captain's chairs, integrated child seats, and DVD players that entombed cacophonous kids into a temporary silence. Back in the '90s, the minivan market regularly realized well over a million sold units a year. In 2000, minivans finally hit their familial peak of 1.4 million vehicles in a year with the help of two top-20 bestsellers: the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. Today the minivan just isn't popular. This year it'll likely represent only a half-million in annual sales, with not a single minivan hitting America's top 30 in overall volume. But as I always tell folks, "If you want a deal, you have to hit 'em where they ain't." So you want a cheap and affordable minivan for cash money that isn't a 15-year-old Plymouth in purple? Does it have to be new? Really? Well, if you're married to that type of person, this Grand Caravan with the American Value Package is the cheapest thing going. Deals can also be had on the mini-minivan Mazda5, but since it's been discontinued due to low demand, let's focus on the still-popular Chrysler minivan. The cost for this 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan according to TrueCar is right around $19,500 depending on where you live in the USA. But let's take a look at the 2015 models instead since they tend to have even stronger discounts during the wintertime thanks to manufacturers and dealers who are busy shoveling out all this older inventory. If you opt for a 2015 model instead, you're looking at a market price right around $17,800 and luckily these minivans are still sitting in multitude. Wanna click those rebate and incentive buttons? If you currently lease or finance a FIAT or Chrysler product, have AAA coverage, and finance the car with FCA, you can make off like the proverbial bandit for a price of only $15,229 before the dealer inflicts their bogus fee money dance.

2015 Dodge Challenger configurator has all the Hellcat you can dream of

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has sucked up a lot of air in the automotive news world this summer, so it's good to know that you can actually go out and, you know, buy the sucker. With 2015 models headed for your local showroom, Dodge has seen fit to also pull the wraps off it's latest Challenger configurator, complete with the supercharged Hemi V8 option that we just can't seem to get enough of.
We're still enamored of the $58,995 starting price for the 707-horsepower SRT, but the online tool finally gives us a chance to see just how optioned up our dream super-muscle coupe can get.
Buyers can choose from three interior treatments and nine paint colors, with two hues (Ivory White and Phantom Black tri-coats) coming for a $500 premium. For $1,795 Laguna Leather SRT bucket seats can be added in place of the (very nice) stock chairs, and a fancier infotaiment system with navigation and HD radio runs $695.
