Dodge Lil Red Express Truck 1979 on 2040-cars
Madison, Mississippi, United States
Description:
At auction is this really nice, 1979 Dodge Little Red Express pick up, serial number D13J59S195621. In 1978, Dodge started a two-year only production of these very unique Lil Red Express picks ups. Based on the Dodge, D150 pick up, Dodge manufactured 2188 in 1978 and 5118 in 1979. In 1978, this vehicle was the quickest American-made vehicle in 0-100 mph. The trucks came with a high performance 360 cubic inch Dodge V8 engine, like those put in Dodge police pursuit vehicles. Each came with high performance heads and exhaust manifolds, a four barrel carb, and Hemi-style mufflers breathing through two chrome stacks. They came with a special 727 load flight transmission with rear-axel gearing of 3.55:1. Wheels, front and rear, were 15" by 8". This particular pick up was bought in 2003. In 2004 the truck was completely restored in a frame off, nut and bolt restoration. Since that time, the truck has been driven less than 750 miles. The truck is as clean in the engine compartment and underneath as it is on the exterior. This truck, had very few rust issues when the restoration began and none at present. In the restoration, the frame and many other parts were sand-blasted before being primed and repainted. All of the exterior panels were stripped, worked, primed and sanded before being shot with the correct PY3450 MEDIUM CANYON RED PAINT using a base coat/clear coat system. The paint is still fresh on the truck which has been garaged every day since its restoration was complete. The engine, transmission, and rear end were all rebuilt, as well as, the front and rear suspension. The bumpers were re-chromed. The wheels have been re-chromed also, but the chrome was delaminating so we have purchased, mounted and balanced, NEW AMERICAN RACING VN69 ANSEN SPRINT 15" X 8" WHEELS. The engine came originally with a Carter Thermoquad 4BBL carburetor. These carbs are notorious for leaks and other problems, especially after 35 years. The carb leaked and has been replaced with a new Edelbrock 1406 Performer Carb. It now cranks, idles, and runs fine. The original carb goes with the sale also. The interior of the truck has new upholstery and carpets. The paint on the interior was redone in 2004 also. The truck has a rebuilt Chrysler Air Conditioning Compressor but it feeds a modern VINTAGE AIR INTERIOR A/C-HEAT-DEFROST SYSTEM. The A/C blows cold and has recently been recharged. The glass has no visible defects except for the rear glass which has been pitted (likely by welding splatter) in the past. This pitting is not visible. The truck is a power steering and power brake vehicle. The brake system was restored in 2004. The wood in and on the bed was new in 2004 and is in good condition, except for some minor cracking in a few of the boards in the bed. All gauges, switches, lights, etc. operate as normal including a good sounding, original AM/FM stereo radio. This truck is no doubt one of the finest examples of a Lil Red Express pick up in the USA. I am helping my friend of 30 years sell the truck. I have tried to take many photos of the truck and can take more for those interested. I have a number of photos of the truck during the restoration process. The truck is located in Madison, MS (Central MS near the intersection of I-55 and I-20). Interested parties are welcome to come and inspect the vehicle and drive it. Questions and inquiries should be directed to me, Mike Martin, at 601-906-1196 or by email at mikeamartin02349@gmail.com. Please advise any questions or request for more information in regards to this vehicle. Classic Design Concepts has another riff on the widebody Challenger
Wed, Nov 2 2016Dodge is secretly working on a widebody Hellcat-powered Challenger dubbed the ADR. But for those that can't wait a few years, there's this – Classic Design Concepts' Group 2 Widebody Challenger that was unveiled at SEMA. The original Group 2 Widebody Challenger from CDC made its debut at SEMA back in 2008, but was given a new look for this year's trade show. The car, which you can scrutinize in the gallery above, features a bright red paint job with a blacked-out American flag on the left rear fender and "Hemi" in yellow on the right side. The wheels are also color-coated to match the rear billboard fenders, with the right side being finished in yellow and the left side a dark gray. CDC's body kit is wide, slammed to the ground, and menacing. And if you happen to forget that this is a widebody Challenger, because the extra six inches of width are hard to miss, there's a clear reminder on the back of the car. What does Jeep have cooking with this stretched Cherokee?
Mon, Feb 15 2016Chrysler has been spotted testing what appears to be a stretched Jeep Cherokee prototype. Which seems odd, considering that Jeep already makes a Grand Cherokee, and that's an entirely different model. The question then is just what the company has in the works here. We don't know for sure – but we do have some ideas. We're anticipating a new Grand Wagoneer to serve as the brand's flagship model, but stretching the Cherokee's wheelbase to leapfrog the Grand Cherokee's would take more than eight inches – and stretching a "compact" platform to get there wouldn't seem to make a lot of sense. Alternatively Jeep could be looking to wedge a new model into its lineup in between the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, potentially offering a third row of seats and wearing the Wagoneer name - sans the "Grand" - as part of a new range of seven-seaters. Just what the point would be, however, when the Dodge Durango already offers three rows based on the same platform as the Grand Cherokee, is a bit of a mystery. Another possibility is that it's not a Jeep at all, but rather a Dodge. The brand is in need of a replacement for the current Journey, and we're also waiting to see what FCA does to replace the Grand Cherokee since it unveiled the Chrysler Pacifica to replace the Town and Country. More of a crossover approach could take the Cherokee's Compact US Wide (CUSW) platform as its starting point, but stretched like this prototype to offer more space. Whatever it is, we're sure this won't be the last we'll have seen of it, so watch this space. Related Video:
Pontiac Aztek enjoys rebirth thanks to Millennials
Fri, Sep 11 2015Apparently, Millennials – those between 18 and 34 – aren't afraid to look different on the road, and they like performance, too. A new study by Edmunds is discovering some surprising vehicle choices by this group. Among them, the long-derided Pontiac Aztek is getting a new day in the sun with 25.5 percent its buyers coming from this generation in the first half of 2015. For comparison, Millennials represent an average of 16.8 percent of used car purchases. The Aztek is slowly shaking its reputation as a styling abomination, which seems tied to its appearance on Breaking Bad. The show premiered in 2008, and the Pontiac has been on this list for four of the past five years, according to Edmunds. It even led the pack in 2010. A recent Retro Review from MotorWeek also showed that the crossover wasn't always so hated. While it's still a shock to see the Aztek on any popularity list, the awkward-looking crossover only ranks sixth among Millennials. The vehicle with the biggest portion of buyers from the generation is the Dodge Magnum with 27.6 percent. According to Edmunds, the bluntly styled wagon is especially popular in Detroit and Chicago. The Chrysler Pacifica comes in a close second at 27.3 percent. When it comes to used cars, value and utility appear to trump just about anything else for many Millennial buyers," Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo said in the report. Young buyers aren't afraid of sporty rides, either. The Subaru WRX has 26.4 percent Millennial buyers to rank third place on the list, and the Volkswagen R32 takes fifth at 25.7 percent. Just a few points lower in seventh place is the Nissan GT-R at 25.4 percent, and the final performance machine in 10th place is the Lexus IS-F with 24.7 percent. Related Video:
