Dukes of Hazzard reruns dropped amid Confederate flag controversy

Thu, Jul 2 2015

Those Duke boys are in a mess of trouble again, as TV Land announced Wednesday that it will be dropping the classic 1980s action-comedy the Dukes of Hazzard from its roster. But it may not be Bo and Luke's fault this time. Rather, it appears to be the changing political landscape. Entertainment Weekly reached out to TV Land, which is devoted to airing episodes of classic TV series, but it had no further comment. While the network didn't say why the episodes were removed, EW speculates that the cancellation is part of the reaction to the racially motivated murder of nine people in a historic black church in Charleston, SC, last month. The shooter was often photographed carrying a Confederate flag and other trappings of white supremacy. Since the tragedy, Confederate flags are being dropped from state houses, license plates, and toys. Last month, Warner Bros. said it would stop producing toys featuring the rebel flag, including a die cast miniature version of the Dukes of Hazzard's trademark ride, The General Lee, which was a bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag plastered to the roof. The same week as the shooting, the Supreme Court decided that states can reject license plates featuring the stars and bars as part of the states' right to free speech. Nine states currently use the flag in license plates, and the ruling will allow Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee to remove the motif from their state's plates. Georgia is also considering redesigning its plates in the wake of the shooting. For our younger readers, the Dukes Of Hazzard was a television show that aired from 1979 to 1985 on CBS. It feature the antics of the Duke boys in a fictional place called Hazzard County, GA. Related Video:

Playing in the snow | 2017 Dodge Challenger GT First Drive

Sat, Jan 28 2017

The previous day was miserable. An icy rain fell over Portland, Maine, coating the pavement and making even walking a chore. Driving a muscle car like the Dodge Challenger seems ill-advised. But this is exactly the weather Dodge hoped for, because we're here to test the new all-wheel-drive 2017 Challenger GT. The morning of our test drive dawns sunny and cold. The remnants of a late January nor'easter now past, we nonetheless steel ourselves for a day of unruly roads. Stepping into an inch of slush, we open the huge door, climb inside, and nestle into the heavily bolstered driver's seat. Immediately comfortable, we know the Challenger well. It's an old friend. Late in life, it's finally finding stability. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Heading onto the Maine turnpike, we're struck by the Challenger's poise. All-wheel drive civilizes the coupe's brutish nature. We confidently navigate the first on-ramp – still wet from the storm – and merge onto the highway. A rear-wheel-drive car would come unsettled here, yet this Challenger's 19-inch wheels wrapped in all-season Michelin rubber are not disturbed. At the very least, the specter of tire spin would have made us overcautious. All-wheel drive doesn't morph the Challenger into a Subaru Outback, but it does make the Mopar a realistic year-round option for buyers north of the Mason-Dixon line. Dodge arrived at this conclusion after some introspection. The Challenger and its sibling the Charger sedan are usually cross-shopped with each other, and design is often the deciding factor. With Charger AWD sales remaining strong (in 17 Northern states at least 50 percent of Chargers are sold with the system), not offering an all-wheel Challenger leaves money on the table. Ben Lyon, Challenger brand manager, says the common refrain was, "I would have bought a Challenger, or I would have bought a two-door muscle coupe, if it was available with all-wheel drive." View 50 Photos Naturally, the Dodges share an AWD system, which has an active transfer case and the ability to disengage the front axle, making the Challenger a rear-wheel-drive car in certain conditions to help save fuel. Ambient temperature, wheel slip, Sport mode, passing situations, and the driver's behavior can trigger the all-wheel capability.

Gauging reaction to the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit on Detroit highways

Sat, Feb 7 2015

Steven Ewing and I kind of pretended to be cops a few weeks ago. No, not in the illegal way; we just took turns driving the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit around Detroit and its suburbs, learning invaluable life lessons along the way. A lot of those lessons came in the form of weird reactions from other drivers. Steve peeved his neighbors by surprising them in the parking lot, I can damn close to sitting in jail next to a murderer and we both caught our fair share of evil-eyed glances. One of my very first observations was a pronounced "bubble effect" when driving in traffic on the highway. Attempting to recreate the effect for the video camera, I grabbed Senior Producer Chris McGraw and we went for a ride in the name of pseudo psychology. The results weren't exactly as we'd predicted, but we had fun all the same. Get one more dose of your cop car fix, above.

DESCRIPTION
It’s 1978, and government regulations have choked all the performance out of American Muscle cars. Thankfully the bright minds at Dodge have found a loophole during this Dark Age; trucks are not under such strict regulations. The result of parts-bin picking and late night engineering is this, the Dodge Lil Red Express Truck! Coined the “Adult Toy” in some advertisements it would be the fastest American Built production vehicle in 1978 and again in 1979! That means your pickup would out run any same year Trans Am, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, and so on to 100mph all the time hauling whatever you wanted.

Engineered for speed, the Little Red Express Truck was built on the 1/2-Ton short-wheelbase D150 Adventurer package. However, the real attraction was the high performance Police Edition 360cid V8 with 4bbl carb, producing a claimed 225hp @ only 3800rpm!!! Power was transferred to the ground through a 727 Automatic with a 2500 stall converter and 9.25 inch rear end with 3.55:1 gear ratio! Under the hood also came a dual-snorkel air intake with cold air induction, heavy duty valve springs, and free flowing “hemi style” dual chrome exhausts stacks with stainless steel heat shields, much like those of a Big-Rig Truck. Also standard on the Lil Red Express where chrome plated valve covers, chrome air cleaner lid, chrome bedside steps, oak body trim panels with chrome headed prop nuts, and a Gold 3M pinstripe and decal package.

St. Louis Car Museum & Sales is pleased to present this fully restored, 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express Truck! Having only traveled 2,323 carefully driven miles since its full restoration, this is likely the finest example available anywhere. Still wearing its factory correct and stunning, Medium Canyon Red paint and Black Vinyl interior this collector quality truck presents itself very well! Options on this truck are seemingly endless, (MD2) Chrome Front Bumper, (MD3) Chrome Rear Bumper, (YH6) Lil Red Express Package, (YW4) 6050 GVW, (EH1) High Performance 360cid 4bbl V8, (FA0) A-727 Loadflight Transmission, (LB2) Oil Pressure Gauge, (AV2) 3.55:1 Rear Axle Ratio, (RA6) Chrome 5-Slot Disc Road Wheels - 5 total, Raised White Letter tires - 5 total, AM/FM Radio with Cassette, Air Conditioning, Cargo Light, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Bucket Seats with center console and storage bin, 3 Seat belts, and more. The original tags in the door jamb are present.

The truck is in fantastic driving condition as well as cosmetic condition! It retains all its original charm and flash, but in much nicer condition than Dodge ever put out of the factory. The engine was fully rebuilt and the odometer zero timed at that time. So the mileage on the truck now represents the mileage since restoration. Before the restoration the truck had exactly 81,735 miles on it. The exterior was stripped and beautifully painted in the correct shade of Red. The interior is largely original with new carpet and paint. It shows very well, original, and remains very correct! The wood bed sides and floor were professionally refinished by Signature Hardwoods and are the nicest of any we have offered before. Truck comes with original warranty booklet and owner’s manual. This truck is ready for its next caretaker to enjoy and cherish as its previous owners so did!

When one looks for an investment quality collector vehicle, they should take into account the ever growing desire for collectors to own well cared for and restored trucks. The Dodge Lil Red Express Trucks have been steadily increasing in value over the years and are an excellent way to invest in collector vehicles as they are still affordable. But like those before them, they will soon be financially out of reach to most, so do not miss you opportunity to own one now!! Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, and as always we would be happy to assist with International Worldwide transportation if needed.
