A real one of a kind; I will venture to say a person would be hard pressed to find a handful like this in the country. This vehicle is in overall excellent condition and has been well cared for. It starts easy - drives very well - interior is very nice - and exterior is overall nice for vehicle's originality and age. Definitely would be a great deer hunting rig or off-road'er as it is but I believe it can become much more... a good body repair guy could make this a really sweet ride.  The 318 cid V8 - NP435 4 Speed Manual Transmission - CAD Dana 44 axle - 106" Wheelbase powertrain configuration is virtually impossible to find on one vehicle and is popular for rock crawling enthusiasts.

Vehicle condition: I tried to include a lot of "tell all" pictures that show vehicle's true state of condition - I will try to put it in words...

The engine starts easy - appears to be original - does not smoke - is dry underneath - has good power. AC and smog systems appear to be intact. Carburetor appears to be well tuned - not running rich or lean;  but it does have a fast idle that may be result of vacuum leak or require adjustment.

The transmission shifts out smoothly - clutch appears to be good - engages as it should - no sign if slippage.

Drivetrain is very solid - 4 wheel drive engages and disengages when transferred. No slack can be heard or felt in drivelines or front axles. There is a very small amount of slack in steering wheel - it drives straight and does not road walk. The replaceable shoes between steering shaft and gearbox most likely are to blame - very common and inexpensive to replace.

The interior is in very good condition. The driver seat has wear in lower cushion but sits well.  The rest are very nice. Power door locks work. Power windows work. Rear hatch shuts easy as do doors. Center console is in good condition. Carpet has a few stains but is in excellent condition for its age. Dash is tight and rattle free. The odometer is showing 71k miles, I do not have any documentation to reflect it as actual.

Exterior is in overall good condition but will be the biggest area for attention. The lower quarters in front of and behind of rear wheels has rusted through because of sustained buildup - it does appear to be localized - no sign of rust in bottom of doors, floor pans, or bottom of bedsides... I tried to show this in pictures - the underneath has good ol' oklahoma red clay but is rust free other than on surface of exposed undercarriage. The bedsides on driver and passenger side have dents in nearly same spot. The hood has hail dents and so does top of cab but not as noticeable. The rear bumper is aftermarket and does show chrome peeling. All glass appear to be in good condition. All chrome trim appear to be in place other than ram ornament on hood. The tires have good rubber and wheels appear to be in good condition. Again, I believe this vehicle is a good solid rarity worthy restoration. But if you are one of the ones looking for a weekend deer hunting vehicle, slap on some or just drive it as is and head for the woods.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you that I may not have answered in the text. This vehicle is available for local test drives and 3rd party inspections. Full size pictures can be sent to those that request by email. I can pick you up at local airport or help with shipping quotes.

It is for sale locally at 3,995.00. The auction reserve is set at $3,500. I reserve the right to end auction early due to an on the spot purchase... BUT to be fair to out of area buyers, if auction reserve is met; I will require home town buyers to bid through auction, and vehicle WILL SELL to highest bidder.

Thank you.

FCA's shifter fiasco proves novel gear selectors are a bad idea

Tue, Feb 9 2016

What's wrong with PRNDL? Why are automakers trying to overly complicate the simple task of selecting gears? If there's any lesson to learn from the recent news that NHTSA is investigating 853,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles over its problematic gear selectors, it's that the trend of fancy shifters needs to stop. Now. Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into Jeep Grand Cherokee models, and has now expanded this probe to include the 2012-14 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. The problem? The shifter – assembled by ZF – is confusing for many drivers. "Testing ... indicates that operation of the (electronic) shifter is not intuitive and provides poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver, increasing the potential for unintended gear selection," a NHTSA document states. More than 100 crashes and over a dozen injuries are linked to this problem, according to The Detroit Free Press. To us, the problem isn't just limited to FCA. These unnecessarily novel gear selectors are spreading like wildfire across the industry. Honda and Acura use a weird pushbutton setup. Lincolns have buttons on the dashboard. Jaguar's shifter electronically raises out of the center console. Mercedes uses a stalk with up-for-Reverse, down-for-Drive, push-for-Neutral arrangement. And what the hell is BMW thinking with its M cars? FCA has since abandoned the confusing shifters in question. The 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee now use the rotary shift dial that's quickly proliferating across the company's brands. Simplistic gear selectors might not be sexy, but no one ever complained about not being able to find the right gear in a Hyundai Sonata. What's most interesting is that this NHTSA investigation could push FCA – and possibly other automakers – to redesign vehicle functions that otherwise operate as designed. Just because most people will never have a problem putting a Dodge Charger in Reverse doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with the design. But perhaps a more simplistic solution – good ol' PRNDL – would have prevented these issues from the start. Will Dodge limit 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat to 1,200 units?

Sun, 20 Jul 2014

With over 700 horsepower on tap and a price tag barely over $60k, Dodge appears on paper to have a winner on its hands with the new Challenger SRT Hellcat. But if you want to get your hands on one, you may have to act quicker than this most powerful of muscle cars covers the quarter-mile.
That's because, according to our compatriots over at Edmunds, Dodge may limit production - in the first year, at least - to just 1,200 units. That would amount to barely a quarter of the Challengers that Dodge moves each month, and would also mean only one Hellcat for every two Dodge dealers in the US - which could lead to some serious contention over which stores and which customers can get their hands on the ultimate Challenger.
Reached for comment, SRT spokesman Dan Reid told Autoblog that "there is no plan to limit production of the Challenger Hellcat," echoing the words of Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis who told Edmunds: "We don't know what the market demand is." Which doesn't mean that it won't restrict production, but doesn't mean that it will, either. It just hasn't decided yet - or announced any such decision, at any rate - over what will be the final allocation strategy for what could be a game-changing muscle car. That is, at least, until new versions of the Mustang and Camaro come along in pursuit of Dodge's bragging rights...

Kia leads J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study for 2022

Thu, Feb 10 2022

For the first year ever, Kia leads J.D. Power's annual Vehicle Dependability Study with a score of 145 problems per 100 vehicles. Buick (147) and Hyundai (148) round out the top three. The highest premium brand on the list is Genesis, with a score of 148. It's common for so-called "mass market" brands to lead this particular study, according to J.D. Power, as "premium" brands "typically incorporate more technology in their vehicles, which increases the likelihood for problems to occur" and aren't necessarily built to a higher standard that less-expensive brands. The highest-rated single nameplate is the Porsche 911. It's the third time out of the past four years and the second year in a row that Porsche's quintessential sports car has taken top honors. Porsche as a brand sits in seventh place (162) just behind Lexus (159) and ahead of Dodge (166). At the very bottom of the list is Land Rover with a dismal score of 284; the SUV specialist held the same unfortunate distinction on last year's list. Ram (266), Volvo (256), Alfa Romeo (245) and Acura (244) also performed poorly. The overall industry average score sits at 192 — mass market brands average a score of 190 while premium brands sit 14 points lower at 204. While Tesla is unofficially included in some of J.D. Power's results, the agency says the sample size it has access to for this study is too small to include. As has been the case for the past several years, infotainment systems dominate the list of problems reported by owners. Popular (or unpopular, depending on your point of view) complaints include built-in voice recognition (8.3 PP100), Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity (5.4 PP100), built-in Bluetooth system (4.5 PP100), not enough power plugs/USB ports (4.2 PP100), navigation systems difficult to understand/use (3.7 PP100), touchscreen/display screen (3.6 PP100), and navigation system inaccurate/outdated map (3.6 PP100). While problems with the car's infotainment and technology packages are indeed bothersome, it's important to remember that such issues aren't usually leaving owners stranded with an immovable vehicle like a broken transmission or blown engine would. Culling infotainment complaints from the results would reduce the average problem-per-100-vehicle score by a staggering 51.9 points. The vehicles included in this study are from the 2019 model year. That means owners have had three years to get to know their cars and trucks. It's the 33rd year that J.D.
