I am reluctantly selling my as-new Dodge Magnum R/T AWD, which I recently purchased from the original owner with fewer than 18,000 miles.  My oldest daughter is turning sixteen and I thought this would be a reliable and safe car for her.  A large, all-wheel drive station wagon was perfect, I thought.  All the better it was white.  After driving the car home and around town for a short while, however, I realized for my family I should have gone with the V-6.  While I enjoy driving it immensely, the Hemi is just not appropriate for a new driver--too much car.

The Magnum is completely original with no modifications.  I purchased the car from an older woman in Tennessee, who obviously drove it very little.  The car is essentially as new having been garaged and never exposed to the harsh winters of the northeast.  The car was ordered in Cool Vanilla Clearcoat with Dark Slate Gray/Light Graystone leather interior and has all available options other than the navigation system.  In addition to the Hemi engine and all-wheel drive, this included:

  • Roof Rack & Cargo Organizer Group ($410)
  • Electronics Convenience Group ($630)
    • Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls, HomeLink Universal Garage Door Opener, Instrument Cluster w/Display Screen, Security Alarm, Temperature & Compass Gauge,Traveler/Mini Trip Computer and Vehicle Information Center
  • Convenience Group II ($925)
    • Automatic Air Conditioning w/Dual Zone Control, Power Adjustable Pedals, Heated Front Seats, Power Front Driver & Passenger Seats
  • Power Sunroof ($950)
  • AM/FM/Cassette/6-Disc CD & MP3 Radio ($400)

All original equipment and accessories are with the car, including owner’s and service manuals, as well as the unused jack and spare.  The exterior is as it left the factory, including the original tires which are in fine shape.  The interior, like the exterior, is untouched.  The engine and suspension have had absolutely no modifications.

The Magnum  currently has 17,945 original miles and needs absolutely nothing in terms of mechanical or cosmetic attention.  Other than a few touched up paint nicks, the car shows virtually no wear.  It was always serviced at the local Dodge dealer and was under factory warranty until March 2013.  As a precaution, as soon as I returned home with the car, I took it to my local Dodge dealer for a comprehensive inspection.  They found absolutely no faults with the car.  This is a very pleasurable car to drive and a beautiful example of the Magnum.  All switches, gauges and systems function properly and as designed.  This car has always been used in moderate climates and has been properly stored when not used.

I have been collecting cars for over twenty-five years and am very particular about the cars I purchase.  Although not bought as a collector car, I was no less critical when buying this Magnum.  It is a very nice car and should serve the new owner for many years to come.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat gets 22 mpg

Thu, 18 Sep 2014

With its crazy 707 horsepower on tap and roughly $60,000 starting price, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been one of the most talked about cars of the summer, maybe even the year. However, there's always been one lingering question about the behemoth that Dodge has waited to answer until now - its fuel economy. The EPA ratings for the muscle car are finally out, and the numbers are actually pretty impressive for a vehicle with this much power.
A 2015 Challenger Hellcat with the eight-speed automatic is rated at 22 miles per gallon highway, 13 mpg city and 16 mpg combined. Opting for the six-speed manual drops those figures to 21 mpg highway, 13 mpg city and 16 mpg combined.
"As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs [elapsed times] at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there's nothing else that even comes close," said Dodge and SRT President Tim Kuniskis in the company's release.
