I bought this car used in 2001. There was only one previous owner before me, who drove the car for business trips. This previous owner smoked in the car. However, I have now owned it for 13 years, and I did/do not smoke in the car, so the smell should be long gone! Please note that there are some cigarette burns in the seat cushions.

This is a good car that has been very reliable and has lasted me a long time. It has never stalled on me. I am selling this car because I just got a new one. I loved this car, but I don't know anything about fixing to taking care of cars, so an older car is very difficult and expensive for me to maintain. I think the best fit for this car would be someone who works on cars or knows enough about them to do simple repairs on their own. I think it could still be a great car for years to come with the proper care and maintenance that I just can't give.

Back around 2005 I had to have the engine completely replaced, so it has a newer engine. The car is definitely getting old, but major systems still work: brakes, transmission, engine, etc. The air conditioner and heater still work great. The power windows and seats work great. So does the interior lighting. Please not that the windshield wipers need repair. They aren't turning on, and it could just be a fuse. I think the fuse in the headlights is blown as well, but the brights are still working just fine.

I believe that the right rear shock may need to be replaced because it makes some rattling noises when hitting bumps in the road. Brakes work fine. Power steering is great. It is due for an oil change.

There are some cosmetic issues as well - a large dent in the rear bumper, some scrapes and dents around the car. Nothing terrible that has damaged the frame or hinders driving. The car has never (with me, I can't speak to the original owner, but I remember the Carfax looked good) been in an accident. The paint is also oxidizing, and there are some rust marks around the exterior trim.

The original radio and cassette player were removed to make room for a store-bought CD player, which is still installed in the car, and you can have. However, the CD player doesn't latch properly anymore, so while it still works, you may want to replace it.

As far as mechanical problems, I can only say that the car runs just fine, and it has always been reliable for me. I'm not sure what will need fixing and when, but it is good to go for now. This car is very big and roomy. I've moved several times in this car and I've always been amazed at how much I can fit in it. It accelerates quickly and feels powerful to drive. It is a wide car and it doesn't blow all over the road when it's windy. A very sturdy ride.

I just need to sell this car. I know that it isn't worth much, and that's fine. At this point I just need to get it out of my driveway. My registration expired around the time I was getting my new car, so I haven't taken it in for a pre-sell tune up. I also know at that point, I won't make any money on the sale. I didn't use this car as a trade in because I bought a hybrid and my dealership wasn't interested in buying this make and model.

I paid the car off back in 2006, and I have the title free and clear. I am willing to sell it to a private buyer or a dealership. I've been very upfront and honest about my knowledge of the car, and I cannot guarantee that there will not be problems with it in the near or distant future. This is its current status. I would caution you to please not buy this car if you either cannot work on it yourself, or are not willing to put some money into it to fix it up - it is 18 years old!

Hackers arrested after stealing more than 30 Jeeps in Texas

Fri, Aug 5 2016

This article has been updated with details on how the thefts were carried out, and with comments from FCA. It seems the news regarding vehicle hacking continues to get worse, especially when it comes to products from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Last year, a Jeep Cherokee in St. Louis, Missouri, was wirelessly hacked from Pittsburgh. Nissan had to shut down its Leaf app because of vulnerabilities. Now, a pair of hackers in Houston, Texas, stole more than 30 Jeeps over a six-month period. The two were arrested by police last Friday while attempting to steal another vehicle. ABC 13 in Houston reports that police had been following Michael Arcee and Jesse Zelay for several months but were unable to catch them in the act until now. The two were using a laptop to connect to and start a vehicle. The thieves were able to access Fiat Chrysler's own DealerCONNECT software. After entering the vehicle identification number, the hackers were able to reprogram the cars' security systems to accept a generic key, according to The Houston Chronicle. Additionally, Automotive News reports that FCA subsequently updated the terms of use for its DealerCONNECT program. These thefts were not related to the UConnect remote hacks from last year. It was this footage that first led the police to Arcee and Zelay. The police began to follow and record the pair. That investigation eventually led to Friday's arrest. Both are charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In addition, Arcee is charged with felon in possession of a weapon and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. According to ABC 13, Homeland Security is investigating more than 100 stolen FCA vehicles that they believe were hacked using this method. After their theft, the vehicles were brought across the border to Mexico. FCA is currently conducting an internal investigation into the matter. After this article was posted, the company reached out to Autoblog, stating "FCA US takes the safety and security of its customers seriously and incorporates security features in its vehicles that help to reduce the risk of unauthorized and unlawful access to vehicle systems and wireless communications. FCA US has been cooperating with Houston Police Department since they first started the investigation.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.

2014 Dodge Dart Blacktop glosses over performance

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

The Dodge Dart is a decent little car. It's honest, basic transportation, and many of us at Autoblog are genuinely fond of the Alfa Romeo-based compact sedan. For 2014, not a whole lot changes in the Dart world, save the addition of this new Blacktop edition that makes its debut here at the Detroit Auto Show.
It's all very simple, this Blacktop package, and doesn't actually alter performance in any way. Instead, buyers are treated to blacked-out exterior bits like 18-inch wheels, the crosshair grille and headlamp bezels. Inside, black/tungsten or black/red cloth seats are available, with red contrast stitching throughout the cabin.
Adding the Blacktop pack to your Dart SXT with the Rallye Appearance Group will set you back a scant $295, and while it's just an appearance package, it all looks pretty nice to us.
