This vehicle was bought locally from a Dodge dealer with 8570 miles in September 1995; as we understood it was a repossession purchased by the dealer at an auction. We've maintained it meticulously over the years and stored it in our barn with a cover on it. It's never been driven during the winter months. We basically used it for vacations to Amish country before we bought an RV. Our child is grown and we no longer use it or take the same vacations as we did when she was younger so we have decided to downsize our small fleet of cars. Plus, the registration is up in July; the NYS inspection is valid through October. Inspections receipts I found show the following consistent mileage: 2005: 61293 miles; 2006: 65,423; 2007: 67926; 2008: 69700; 2009: 71,984; so you see, were rarely use and the mileage is valid. The Cooper Trendsetter 205/70R15 tire were installed on the factory gold 'lace spoke' wheels at 70,142. It has a Primetime Galavan conversion package which includes a hi top fiberglass roof, oak trim throughout, mood lights, reading lights, limo window tint, a small six pack sized cooler between the front seats, an extra drawer under the front passenger seat, a rear storage cabinet, TV, VCR, an extra rear radio/cassette, four headphones, four (4) captain chairs and a folding rear bench seat. This van seats 7. The rest of the truck is stock. The rear bench seat and the two rear captains chairs can be removed to allow the hauling of larger items if need be. We used to remove the rear bench seat to fit a large dog crate in the back. It also has a bug deflector and carpeted floor mats throughout. The large rear vent windows are powered from the driver's seat. The air conditioning condensor was replaced by a Dodge dealer several years ago so the A/C is cold; it also has rear A/C and heat. The transmission has always been serviced regularly with Mopar fluids only (this is very important for Dodges - to use Dodge transmission fluid and filter). The shocks/struts were changed around 43K with Monroe brand. The water pump was changed at 61K when we were on a trip to Amish country. The spark plugs, air filter and oil were installed/changed about a thousand miles ago; the battery was replaced in 2013; the front and rear wiper motors were replaced in 2011 (one failed so I had both changed at the mechanic's recommendation). The class IV hitch has only been used for hauling bicycles; this van has never towed anything (it doesn't even have a trailer light switch plug for the hitch). It also comes with a full tank of premium gas (we always used premium gas in this vehicle). The only real issues are the following: the clearcoat on the roof of the fiberglass high top is peeling (not the paint, just the clearcoat has failed); there is a paint blister/fail spot on the engine hood (quite atypical of Dodge, see the photo); the right side running board has a few scrapes on the bottom of it; and some of the gold pinstriping has darkened and flaked off with age here and there. The van runs perfectly and I estimate it gets about 18 mpg. Check the free independent Auto Check vehicle history report link from Experian (above) which shows the vehicle's history accurately. It rates this van above average for its age (scored it 42 when the average van of this year is 27) and it showed no 'red flags', no accidents, no surpises. Kelly Blue Book states the private sale price of this van in 'very good' condition is $3300, excellent $3400 - and that's without the Primetime conversion package add ons. It can be viewed before bidding, if you'd like, in Westtown, NY, probably on Saturday 6/7 - just contact me via eBay message. Any questions, please feel free to eBay message me, and I'll get back to you between 6PM and 10PM weekdays.

Chevy Corvette Stingray defeating rivals where it matters most

Wed, 16 Jul 2014

Everything is coming up roses for the award-winning Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, as new data from the North American Dealers Association dissected by GM Authority reveals that America's sports car is handily outselling two of its more expensive rivals.
Through June of 2014, the NADA notes that the Corvette has rung up 17,744 sales, handily besting the Porsche 911 and positively spanking the SRT Viper. Of course, you're sitting there thinking, "Corvette is outselling the much more expensive Porsche and Viper. Sky blue, water wet." But what's impressive here is just how thoroughly the Chevrolet is beating its two rivals, with this data serving as a testament to just how popular the seventh-generation sports car has become.
So far this year, Porsche has managed to move 5,169 911s, according to NADA. Considering that the base model starts at nearly $15,000 more than the most heavily optioned Stingray, and that Porsche owners have a vast, expensive options catalogue to select from, Stuttgart's sales are still plenty impressive in relation to the nearly 18,000 Corvettes sold.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango still catching fire after recall

Thu, May 7 2015

Automakers issue recalls all the time. It's part of the cost of doing business. We just assume that once the recall has been carried out, the problem in question has been fixed. But that's not always the case, as this latest investigation being undertaken by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration goes to show. The problem stems back to a recall issued by Chrysler last summer. It revolved rather the sun visor in the SUVs it makes at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant – specifically, the screw affixing the sun visor could end up rubbing against the wiring for the lamp in the vanity mirror, potentially causing an electrical short and even a fire. 62 such short circuits, 38 fires and three injuries reported, prompting Chrysler to recall nearly 900,000 units of the 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango (over 650,000 of them in the United States). The plastic spacers they installed to rectify the problem, however, may not have done the trick. Eight reports (but none involving injuries) have been filed with the NHTSA regarding the same issue recurring, spurring the government agency to open a new investigation into the matter. If deemed necessary, the NHTSA could ask FCA to issue another recall to fix the issue again, which we may necessitate the installation of a fuze to prevent any such the electric short. Related Video: INVESTIGATION Subject : Headliner Fires Date Investigation Opened: MAY 01, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: RQ15003 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , INTERIOR LIGHTING Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) SUMMARY: On July 1st, 2014 Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued safety recall 14V-391 to remedy a wiring-related fire hazard on the headliner of approximately 661,888 model year (MY) 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured between January 5, 2010 and December 11, 2013. The recall was in response to the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) investigation EA14-001 during which data provided by Chrysler indicates that the fire is caused by an electrical short in the vanity lamp wiring for either one of the sun visors mounted on the vehicle. The sun visors are mounted to the roof of the vehicle through the headliner with three metal screws.

I sold my Viper, but the memories I'll keep

Thu, 30 May 2013

The following is written by auto industry veteran Tow Kowaleski. The words are his own, but the memories now belong to everyone thanks to his willingness to share. If you're an industry veteran with a story to share, contact us at tipsATautoblogDOTcom.
It became the flame that started the fire of belief in the next life of Chrysler.
I just sold a car. Nothing new. Millions do it every day. But my car was a 1995 Dodge Viper, so maybe it was a bit more unique since just 12,000 were built. And like others selling a car that's been a part of the family for close to 20 years, this was a confluence of emotions for me. I was sad to see it go, but happy to have the cash and one less big, shiny, under-utilized object in my life.
