Dodge Grand Caravans are always the great bargains of the minivan world, and our full-size Grand Caravan SE is the *perfect* bargain for you if you are mechanically inclined!

Gently used by a single parent and older child, the interior is in very good shape for a 2003. Absolutely smoke-free and pet-free.

(Regular maintenance consistently performed at dealer; additional recent history below)
  • July 2012: New muffler and exhaust system; New rear shocks
  • June 2012: New front and rear brakes; New front rotors; New rear calipers/ wheel cylinders
  • February 2012: Two new tires
  • January 2012: New transmission control module
  • August 2011: New fuel pump, New sway bar links

Minor annoyances: the sliding-door lock on the driver’s side does not lock automatically (works just fine by pushing the button down, though. Not a big deal but something you have to remember to do). Turn signal works fine, but has to be turned off manually. Front passenger-side window sometimes seems to roll up or down slowly.

Handyperson’s special, as-is, where-is—please note:

The van has not been driven since November 2012. When it was last driven it was making a chirping noise, and the engine light had gone on. Our mechanic tells us that the van needs a belt and tensioner, and also needs an oxygen sensor (this is the cause of the check-engine light). With how much care we have put into making this van’s mechanicals new-again (see list above!), it is time to let this car go to someone handy who can do the labor himself or herself and have the benefit of all the other new parts we’ve put into it.

The exterior and underside does have rust and wear consistent with its age, noted with as much detail as possible in the photos included in this listing, and a dent at the corner of the rear bumper (see photo).

Being sold in as-is, where-is condition, with no warranty or guarantee expressed or implied. The van has not been driven for a couple of months—note that the battery has discharged over the winter—but was drivable at that time. This is NOT to be considered a statement of its current driveability. Because of the noise and the known condition we will not be able to allow test drives before purchase. This is why we are making this description very in-depth—and with the thousands of dollars of repairs in just the last two years, the price is a suitable steal!!

We are selling our beloved Grand Caravan only because we bought another one—we really love our Dodge Caravans and treat them well, and we know you’ll love this one, too!

Watch this Dodge Viper get clawed to death

Tue, 07 Jan 2014

There's a scene in the James Bond movie, Casino Royale, where Daniel Craig's Agent 007 is captured by villain Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen. Le Chiffre tortures Bond in a scene that is rather difficult to watch (especially for blokes) and impossible to describe on these digital pages (Google at your own risk). This video is the automotive equivalent of the Casino Royale torture scene.
It shows a Dodge Viper - a late, first-generation GTS judging by the center-exit exhausts - getting assaulted by a giant piece of heavy equipment. The large claw shows no mercy on the V10-powered sports car, rending its muscular curves into pieces and then running it over, just for good measure. It's a painful video to watch (and hear!), made worse because we don't know what the Viper did to deserve such a fate. About a third of the way through the video, the cameraman indicates that the man with the claw is a new operator from Chrysler, and it appears there may be some fire damage, but beyond that, we don't have much to go on.
Scroll down for the video but be warned, it isn't for the faint of heart.

Pony-car sales war: Mustang vs. Camaro vs. Challenger [UPDATE]

Fri, Jul 3 2015

Update: An earlier version of this story misstated the 2015 Mustang's weight when compared with previous models. Additionally, we have added comments from Chevrolet in the text. The Ford Mustang has blown past the Chevy Camaro as America's best-selling pony car, and in June, it wasn't even close. The 'Stang outsold the Camaro 11,719 to 8,611 cars. The Camaro remained ahead of the Dodge Challenger, which sold 6,845 units. Even though the Camaro did post an 11.5-percent sales improvement in June, the competition is arguably stronger than at anytime since the 1970s muscle-car era. The Mustang's sales leapt a whopping 53.6 percent, while the Challenger saw a gain of 56 percent. Several factors are weighing down Camaro sales, including its lame duck status. Chevy is launching a new generation of the Camaro this year that's more than 200 pounds lighter, offers a new turbo four-cylinder engine option, and has a nicer interior than the outgoing model. Put simply: wait a few months and you can get a better car. It's also unlikely Chevy will jack up the price much, as it's historically kept the Camaro within reach of everyday enthusiasts. While Chevy fans wait in anticipation for their new sports car, Ford and Dodge have downshifted. The new Mustang, which went on sale last year, is faster and more sophisticated than its predecessor. It also offers a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, which Ford has credited for the Mustang's recent uptick and makes up 36 percent of the car's sales, Ford analyst Erich Merkle said. View 17 Photos June's performance allowed the Mustang to widen its sales gap with the Camaro this year. Through the first five months, Ford sold 68,290 Mustangs, a 54.4-percent increased compared with 2014. Chevy sold 42,593 Camaros, an 8.7-percent decrease. The Challenger – long the No. 3 pony car in sales volume – has seen its sales surge 41 percent this year to 37,011 units. Spokesman Monte Doran said Chevy expected that 2015 would be a "relatively soft year" for the Camaro. "Mustang is taking advantage of years' worth of pent-up demand for an independent rear suspension," he said. "When Camaro introduced an IRS, in 2009, it helped make us the best-selling performance car in America.

Dodge Scat Pack for 5.7L Hemi V8 detailed, priced

Sat, 05 Apr 2014

Dodge revived the Scat Pack name back in November at the 2013 SEMA show. At the time, though, we were short of details on forthcoming upgrade packages, which were destined to add some oomph to the Challenger, Charger and Dart. We're still waiting to hear about the upgrades to the Dart's 2.4-liter four-pot, but Dodge has gone ahead and released the details on the upgrades to the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the Challenger and Charger R/T.
As we detailed in our original post, three different Scat Packs will be available that will allow customers to upgrade their cars without voiding the warranties. Starting with the $2,195 Stage 1 kit, owners will net an extra 18 horsepower and 18 pound-feet of torque thanks to a Mopar-branded cold-air intake, exhaust and ECU ref lash. Stage 1 is also the only package that could be installed outside of a Chrysler-authorized service center without voiding the warranty (a mechanically competent owner could even do it at home, we're told by Dodge). Stage 2 builds on the entry level Scat Pack, and adds performance camshaft kit, which boosts output over the stock 5.7 by up to 30 hp for $1,895. As with the Stage 1, the ECU is tweaked.
For those that want to go whole hog, they can add the Stage 3 for $4,995. The top-tier gets quite serious, adding CNC-ported cylinder heads, as well as high-flow headers and cats. Output over stock is 58 hp and 47 lb-ft of torque. Each kit comes with a pair of badges, just in case owners want a bit of visual flair.
