Here's a seldom seen 1960 Phoenix 2 dr. ht. A fabulous Forward Look automobile from Chrysler corporation. Options are Sky Hi back window, 318 power pak, torquflite, power steering, power brakes, tinted glass, radio and heater. Strong running and powerful 318. has new 4v carb. very quick. Always starts with the bump of the key. Good throaty dual exaust. transmission just resealed. no leaks and shifts great. excellent glass, right rear window is stiff. needs lubrication. all gauges work. speedometer works smoothly but is slow to return to 0 when you slow down. probably needs cleaning and lubrication. heater and defroster work as they should. excellent brakes. average chrome and stainless average quality repaint. no evidence of prior accidents or rust repair. trunk floor has small rust through area and is soft in places (see photo) wipers work and has new blades after market stereo with power antenna. antenna has a mind of its own. Title is in my name, lic good through july 2015. currently insured original trunk mat and possibly the spare is too. no oil, trans or p/s leaks comes with fender skirts, quarter panel stone shields, and the correct brake release handle, original air cleaner new center link and idler arm bushing. new fuel sender. tires are old. one of them has a bubble on the tread. How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront
Fri, 25 Apr 2014It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.
Chrysler recalling 644k more Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs over brakes
Wed, 02 Apr 2014Early last month, we reported on Chrysler issuing a preemptive, proactive recall for about 25,000 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The issue revolved around a brake system that wasn't causing any actual problems, but delivered an unsatisfactory brake feel, so Auburn Hills called in a good 25,000 of SUVs around the world, including 18,700 in the United States.
Now Chrysler, having apparently determined that the brake problem on its sport utes is actually much bigger than it initially realized, has drastically broadened the scope of the recall. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for precisely 655,354 examples of the Grand Cherokee and Durango, covering the 2011 through 2014 model years. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 42,380 units in Canada, 21,376 in Mexico and 159,685 overseas.
The problem which Chrysler found revolves around the brake booster, whose center shell has been found to be subject to corrosion, allowing water to get into the brake system. That water in turn could freeze, preventing the brakes from working as well as expected.
Gauging reaction to the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit on Detroit highways
Sat, Feb 7 2015Steven Ewing and I kind of pretended to be cops a few weeks ago. No, not in the illegal way; we just took turns driving the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit around Detroit and its suburbs, learning invaluable life lessons along the way. A lot of those lessons came in the form of weird reactions from other drivers. Steve peeved his neighbors by surprising them in the parking lot, I can damn close to sitting in jail next to a murderer and we both caught our fair share of evil-eyed glances. One of my very first observations was a pronounced "bubble effect" when driving in traffic on the highway. Attempting to recreate the effect for the video camera, I grabbed Senior Producer Chris McGraw and we went for a ride in the name of pseudo psychology.
