Up for auction is my 1968 Coronet 500. The car has been in my possession for roughly 16 years now, and as much as I would like to keep it, I have higher priorities that dictate its sale.

I was informed by a trusted friend that this car is a very limited production version. I'm forever reading the term 'rare' here on Ebay, but this car actually fits that term. He told me that according to Galen Govier's "Little White Books" that the production stat for this car is a mere 518 (This was quite a few years ago that he told me this). This is an "H" code car, not a "G" code which were much more common. It is a factory Hi-Po 383/4 speed/3.23:1 posi 8.75 rear car. It has just over 100,000 miles on it, it is rough in some areas, remarkably good in others. It does run and move (I actually have driven it on one trip to town and back, about an 8 mile round trip a little over a year and a half ago).Let's go over its good and bad points.

The Good:
This car is complete. As far as I can tell every component on the car (or comes with the car) is the factory piece.
The glass is all good.
The unibody frame rails are solid as a rock, all the floors with the exception of a small area directly under the pedals are solid and do not need replacement. The body has suffered only one light hit that I know for certain (a family member backed into the left quarter panel between the door and the wheel by accident).
If you're looking for a substantial example of limited-edition Mopar at no reserve, this is it. An excellent father-and-son/shade tree mechanic project that body sheet metal-wise needs only quarters, trunk extensions, left front floor pan (or small fabricated patch piece) and in my opinion, a left front fender. At the same token, this is also a prime candidate for a professional nut-and-bolt restoration that would yield a VERY valuable investment when finished.
The car runs and drives.
You will notice an aftermarket radiator in the pic of the engine, the original radiator goes with the car though as you can imagine, it needs a re-core. I also have the original carburetor that is going to have to be re-built (thank you ethanol), there is an Edelbrock 600 on it now (same exact carb body).
The doors open/shut fine. Same with the trunk and hood.
This is a factory Ma Mopar sleeper. Came through with the steelies/poverty caps and all the trim.
It's a bucket seat/console car.
It has had a minimum of molesting throughout its life, though it's use looks like on the extremely high end of what one would call 'normal wear', closer to extreme wear.
The dash pad is good.
Have a new set of head pipes for the exhaust from Year One that are included.
Most of the lights work.
The wipers work.
The horn works.
The emergency/parking brake works.
The tranny shifts fine.
The rearend still holds its ratio tag as wells the 'Use sure Grip Lube' collar so it's safe to assume the rear has never been apart. It makes no noises during operation.
It has a new clutch (about 12 years ago)
I installed new brakes from the master cylinder to the shoes about ten years ago, all the steel lines from Fine Lines. (The only original piece is the junction block on the frame below the master cylinder)
The interior door panels are fine.
I have paperwork in my name on this car, transfer of ownership will be no problem.

I have many more pics available for those who are serious about bidding on this car.

The Bad:
The interior upholstery is shot-both the rear seat and both front seats. Same for the headliner, carpet, and console-they will all need replacement. The rear side panels will need to be replaced.
Needs both quarters, left front floor pan, and left front fender for the sheet metal.
Both bumpers are bent.
One of the rocker moldings is missing but both need replacement. Wheel well moldings are damaged/missing. The grille needs replacement (a good one goes with the car).
The eyebrows over the taillights are damaged (have a good set that goes with the car).
Needs shocks front and rear.
Needs tires.
Needs tailpipes and hangers. One muffler is new, the other seems to be good.
Even though the motor runs it does have high mileage and needs a re-build.
I do suspect other light hits (superficial only) with the left front fender and right door, as they have been repaired with bondo (the door is definitely usable, the fender depends on your talent/preference)
When I prepped for the photos for this auction the brake pedal lost pressure. I will be checking this problem out to see if there is a leak somewhere sometime this week.

Please understand that the items I described as needing replacement are for the the folks who do not wish the do a total ground-up resto on this car. A professional restoration will want and need much more.
I formerly lived in upstate NY and moved to FL a little over a year and a half ago. Back in November I had the car brought down here. The radiator and carburetor are still up in NY at this time. I will be making a trip back up to NY in a couple of weeks IF this car sells and I will bring them back with me so they are with the car at the time of pick up.

This car up until fall of 2012 had not run under its own power for a good 30 years. The short round trip I took with it I could not believe how well this car drove! It just seemed to holler at me "RUN ME!!"....

DO NOT email/msg me asking what the minimum is that I will take to sell it. Those emails will be ignored I promise you. Don't mean to sound brash but I have stated this in past auctions and for some reason some folks disregard and msg me with that question anyways. I will not end the auction early to sell outside of Ebay, period. The starting bid is set at the reserve, so bid to the maximum you're willing to pay, bid responsibly and most of all have fun!!

Motorweek goes retro with '80s hot hatch shootout

Mon, 03 Nov 2014

Motorweek's decades of history on television make it the perfect medium to look back into the automotive past and see how things are different now. It recently added old road test videos to its YouTube channel of the Acura NSX and Toyota Supra, as well as the Ferrari F40. For one of its newest flashback clips, Motorweek has exhumed an affordable five-car challenge of 1986's premiere hot hatches.
By today's standards, this is an eclectic field that features fondly remembered classics like the Volkswagen GTI 16-valve and Acura Integra. However, it also throws in some nearly forgotten contenders like the Dodge Colt Turbo and Ford Escort GT. The angular Toyota Corolla FX16 GT-S rounds out the group.
It's fascinating to watch Motorweek run the quintet through the slalom, down the drag strip and on various roads. What's most striking in this clip is the difference in the definition of a performance car between then and now. With its 16-valve, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, the GTI is the burliest of the contenders with 123 horsepower, but it still takes 8.8 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. By today's standards, that would make it a plain-jane economy car, and not even a particularly quick one.

Dodge Hellcats getting price hike

Fri, Aug 21 2015

Dodge plans twice as many Hellcats on the road for the 2016 model year, they are going to be a bit more expensive when buyers sign on the dotted line. According to CarsDirect and confirmed to Autoblog by Dodge, 2016 Challenger SRT Hellcat costs $65,190, an increase of $4,200 over 2015. That figure includes $995 for destination and $1,700 for the Gas Guzzler charge. The latest Charger SRT Hellcat retails for $68,640, a $3,650 increase. Other SRT trims of the muscle cars also see a price hike. The 2016 Challenger SRT 392 is $51,190, after destination and a $1,000 guzzler charger – a $3,500 increase. The Charger SRT 392 also jumps $3,000, to $51,990. Even at 2015's prices, Dodge was having problems keeping up with demand for the Hellcat, and the higher price isn't likely to change that. And before you think the company is going plum crazy, the 2016 models of all four muscle cars come standard with Laguna leather seats and navigation. According to company spokesperson Dan Reid to Autoblog, both items had a "very high customer take rate," and the previously optional features are valued at $2,490. Dodge previously announced a discount for those who had a sold 2015 Hellcat order canceled in the switch to 2016. Those amount to $5,000 on the Challenger and $4,000 Charger, which seems like a sweet deal for those customers. Related Video:
