1957 Dodge Coronet Hello Classic Mopar and Exner big fin car fans! Here is a mostly complete, all original and unmolested 1957 Dodge Coronet post car - 2 door sedan. Showing only 49,706 miles. Believed to be original, but although very unlikely, could be 149,706. Car has quite a lot of good things going for it, but also has bad/severe rust issues. Partial rust through damage on driver side floor pan by rocker side, rocker side itself, some on trunk pan, mostly at rear. Bottom of quarter panels and rocker panels eaten through in some places, some scaling, pitting and other misc. rust damage at bottom of trunk lid, panels, frame, etc. The car certainly could be restored but quite a bit of panel replacement work and/or metal fabrication and repairing would be required. The in-line 6 cylinder engine had the top (head) removed quite some time ago by the previous owner(s); it sits loosely on top of the engine now. Unknown if engine turns, it is safe to assume that it does not and could need to be replaced, but maybe not. Push button transmission, most likely Fireflite, perhaps 727 Torqueflite. Except for these two big items (rust and engine), the rest of the car is actually in pretty remarkably good condition. The bumpers are in great shape, as well; they are straight and shine brightly. The trimwork is in great condition too. The same with the dash, instrument panel. grille (check the photo of the grille emblem - looks great), etc. The glass and windshield are in excellent condition; no cracks, holes or damage. The door panels and upholstery are in fair condition, but are somewhat dried up. Unbelievably, the seats still have the original plastic covers on them! This big fin late 50's Mopar begs to be restored, but the body work will not be for the faint of heart. I did buy this car together with a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal 2 door hardtop - see my other auction currently running - a red & white car - with the intent of restoring it and/or to use as a perfect donor for a few items that the Custom Royal needed parts exchanged and/or replaced with. However, I got busy and life happened/changed and I never got to it. Although I love cars, I unfortunately do not have the knowledge or the experience to work on them and I have no choice but to have to use shops and other people for everything I do and they are not cheap! Now, as I am moving and my storage situation has changed, I have decided to pass the torch to someone with more experience , time and enthusiasm and hope that they will be able to bring this cool, original survivor back to its former glory or, at the very least turn it into a very nice driver. They don't make cars like this anymore you know and they are harder to find as time goes by. You always see a lot of classic muscle at car shows, but seldom enjoy any big fin late 50's and they always do bring attention and deserved appreciation. It is my wish to see this car being acquired by a similarly appreciative person. I would entertain/prefer to sell both cars together as they are the perfect match for each other in terms of restoration ease as well as transaction and shipping details. Please call me with any questions at 303-941-1765. You are welcome and encouraged to look at the cars in person before bidding, but the photos should be quite helpful in assisting you to make a good decision. Bid with confidence - see my 100% positive feedback. Thanks for your interest in my auction(s) - Happy and successful bidding! |

Only in Japan: Dodge van one-make racing series is a thing
Wed, Jul 15 2015Japan seems willing to embrace a level of automotive insanity that many other places lack. Whether it's 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-Rs blasting through tight, tree-lined mountain roads or advertisements with dances for the Toyota Prius Plug-in, the country definitely has a unique way of expressing a love for autos. The D-Van Grand Prix might be one of our favorite examples yet of crazy Japanese car culture, because the annual, one-make race at the Ebisu Circuit is exclusively for heavily customized Dodge vans. Like many great things, this wonderfully crazy idea came from a little rule breaking. D-Van Grand Prix organizer Takuro Abe was at a track event for a motorcycle racing school, and vans were used to haul the bikes around. During lunch someone came up with the idea for a race. Ignoring that the big machines weren't actually allowed on the circuit, the drivers headed out. The popularity has just grown since then. These days, the racing vans absolutely aren't the stock machines from the event's inspiration. In addition to stripped interiors and track rubber that you might expect, the list of mods for them is a mile long. For every possible advantage, the racers fit them with things like Brembo brakes, cross-drilled rotors, heavy-duty transmissions, and much more. Seeing vans lumbering around the track is very weird at first, but the racers take the competition very seriously. These folks even employ all sorts of little tricks to coax the most from the machines. This is a fascinating motorsports story, but be sure to turn on the subtitles to understand the interviews with the competitors.
FCA recalls 894k total vehicles worldwide in two campaigns
Fri, Oct 30 2015FCA is recalling a total of 893,698 vehicles worldwide in two campaigns to fix problems with inadvertent airbag deployment, failure of the anti-lock brakes, and stability control systems in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Dodge Journey, and Fiat Freemont. 559,703 of these vehicles are in the US. The larger recall affects 284,089 examples of the 2003 Jeep Liberty and 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and there are also 13,411 of them in Canada, 6,277 in Mexico, and 48,212 outside the NAFTA region. Because of "electrical noise beyond the tolerance of the airbag electronic control module", part of that component can fail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This can cause the front and side airbags to deploy and the seatbelt pre-tensioners to activate inadvertently. FCA US has seven reports of alleged injuries from this problem. To fix the situation, the Jeeps need their Occupant Restraint Control modules replaced, as well as the front- and side-impact sensors. According to the NHTSA, the replacement parts won't be available until early 2016. Still, FCA US will advise owners about the problem in a letter by the end of December and will send a second notification when the components are ready. The second campaign affects 275,614 examples of the 2012-2015 Dodge Journey in the US; plus 78,148 of them in Canada, 36,471 in Mexico, and 151,476 left-hand drive units outside of NAFTA where it's sold as the Fiat Freemont. On these vehicles, water intrusion can disable the anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control, although a warning light often illuminates when this issue occurs, and the problem doesn't affect regular braking. There are also no reports of injuries or accidents. To fix the issue, dealers will seal the ABS wiring harness and will replace any already affected components as necessary, like the ABS module or the headlamp and dashboard wiring harness. Statement: Occupant Restraint Control Modules October 30, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 284,089 older-model SUVs in the U.S. to replace their Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) modules and front and/or side-impact sensors, as required. Within this vehicle population, FCA US became aware of seven injuries caused by inadvertent air-bag deployments and advised NHTSA accordingly. The affected vehicles are not equipped with Takata Corp. air-bags. The Company is unaware of any related accidents.
2015 Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car burns rubber into SEMA [w/video]
Tue, 04 Nov 2014Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is showing off a completely redesigned Dodge Charger Funny Car at this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas and it's ready to blow through the NHRA timing lights next year. Initially, the shape might look like any of the other entrants in its class burning through the quarter mile, but this is the first comprehensive rethink for the racecar's aerodynamics since 2006, says Dodge.
Draped in classy red and black Mopar livery, the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car tries to share the front and rear styling with its roadgoing counterpart, plus the scallops along the side, but this racer is all about crossing the finish line first.
The major goals for the redesign included making the body stronger and lighter without sacrificing aerodynamics, and that has been done with materials like Kevlar and carbon fiber. However, engineers have accomplished even more. By moving the cockpit further back, they've increased engine clearance and improved driver visibility.
