Summary

You are reading the detailed description for a Dodge Charger Police Package vehicle, model year 2010.  This is the real deal, and the most highly desired combination for after-market purchase of police vehicles: a bona-fide factory PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) with the Hemi V8, that has never seen patrol duty. No make-over shenanigans such as adding spotlight to a standard Charger or trying to pass off a regular charger as a PD version - check my pics for the column-mounted shifter and 160 mph speedo, you know it’s truly a PD package. You’re also free to verify the VIN and the vehicle’s history. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Looking for a good deal on a great used car that is loads of fun to drive? Want a car that doesn't have questionable history? Tired of what looks like a great deal on EBay Motors until you realize it's salvage title, flood loss, or some other BS?

This is MY car. I'm the original owner. This is a single owner vehicle. Garage kept. No smoking in this car. No pets. Ever. No dealers involved. Any questions you have on this car's history, I can answer. I have all the paperwork and records. This is my baby. I don't want to let it go, but I've got to make room for a different vehicle in my garage. I've had lots of fun driving this car around, and you will too!

No wrecks. No repairs (it has been rock solid reliable). Lots of extra equipment.

Everything works. If I listed it in the description, it’s included and it works. No junk.

I've invested well over $10,000 in many extras and enhancements which make this vehicle one-of-a-kind (read on for the list).

Turn-key solution. Get in and drive. It’s ready to roll. Or it could be a project car for you. This would also make a great take-home car for a police officer, fire fighter, EMT, security officer, or similar.

Most significant mods are upgraded suspension and upgraded brakes. This Charger will stop quicker, stop shorter, and handle better than any other Charger you've ever driven.

This car is FAST. With tweaked police engine software programming, CAI (Cold Air Intake), upgraded suspension, it hauls ass. I have law enforcement experience, and I have driven Crown Vics, Impalas, the Taurus, Explorer, Tahoe - all of them. The Charger is by far the fastest police pursuit vehicle on the market (especially this particular car, with the tweaks it has). When you come barreling down the road, people will MOVE out of your way. Trust me. And you will be amazed at how others' driving behavior suddenly improves when they see you in their rear mirror or next to them.

Gas mileage. I average 18-20 in typical suburban driving. I’d ballpark it at around 16-17 city driving and 25-26 on the highway. I get closer to 26 on highway trips if I keep it under 70 mph.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brief History

Purchased new from a dealer in Ohio. The dealer picked it up for me at Chrysler. It had 169 miles on it when I purchased it between the dealer driving it to their shop, and having it transported to my home.

I used this vehicle as a demo for a business in automotive electronics and law enforcement equipment. As a result, this vehicle HAS been modified to some extent (more on that below). It has performance mods and after-market equipment (electronics). The vehicle has NEVER been driven by anyone but me. This is my personal ride. The LE equipment was installed for demo purposes (sales). The other stuff was for fun.

I’m selling the vehicle now as I’m no longer working in that industry. It’s time for my baby to go. It is bittersweet. This car is awesome and has treated me well. FAST. Handles very well. Tight suspension and amazing brakes. You get the whole package with this car (again, more on this below - read the mod section).

I’ve maintained this vehicle - as I do with all my vehicles - to keep it in top-notch shape. I only use synthetic lubricants where possible, and I replace fluids well before they need it (see details below).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Documentation

Where possible, I am including all available documentation. This includes the basic vehicle warranty and owner’s manual docs, instructions for the Panasonic Arbitrator camera recording system, after-market wiring diagrams and wire codes (the wires are labeled for easier identification).

Panasonic Arbitrator Video Demos:
These videos demonstrate viewing previously recorded video on the Panasonic ToughBook laptop. You can see various data points can be recorded, including GPS coordinates, time, date, officer name, shift, and other info. It is possible to watch live video feed from the camera while driving and/or recording video. Note that these required the use of an Arbitrator recording unit, which is NOT included in this auction. If you wish to procure one, I'll be glad to assist the Buyer in doing so.

Police Package Perks

What is different about a police Charger versus a civilian/normal Dodge Charger? If you are a serious buyer then you may already know all this. For the benefit of people who don't, I’ll list some of the differences. Police package Dodge Chargers come with the following additional features not found on the civilian model:

  • Column mounted transmission shifter
  • Auxiliary transmission and engine oil coolers
  • Police engine programming
  • 160 mph speedometer
  • Certified speedometer
  • Ability to completely defeat (turn off) the traction control system
  • After-market wiring prep (including some factory installed features that may be activated with after-market equipment)
  • Factory spotlight (driver's side only)
  • Factory "ticket light" (overhead light with switches for white or red light; the red light is used at night as it attracts less attention and does not diminish night vision outside the vehicle as much as an interior white light)
  • When factory alarm system is armed/disarmed, the headlights, tail lights, and parking lights do not flash. There is also no audible chirp. Likewise, interior lights will not illuminate either when the vehicle alarm is disarmed. [stealth mode]
  • The instrument panel and interior lights may be completely dimmed down to the minimum federal requirements (basically, this means you can practically turn off the dash lights, except for the transmission position indicator)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modifications

I have listed this vehicle's modifications below in the following categories: Cosmetic, Performance, Electrical, Law-Enforcement (LE) equipment, and Everything Else. The LE equipment has been either removed or modified to conform to state laws so that an average citizen may drive this vehicle without breaking the law. If the purchaser is a public safety official, it will not be difficult to restore disabled parts to operational status. Some parts included with the vehicle may require a full install from scratch in order to function. I’ve noted the status of each system below.

I’m also offering the buyer free technical support, advice, and will answer any questions to the best of my ability post-sale. I want you to be happy and enjoy this car as much as I have. :-)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cosmetic Mods

  • Average to above-average physical condition/appearance. This car has been a daily driver for months at a time, but it’s also sat in my garage for weeks at a time [I also had another demo vehicle]. For the past year it has been driven occasionally and not a daily use vehicle. Regardless, it’s got a few imperfections that you would expect with an average vehicle that is 3-4 years old and actually gets driven.
  • I have made an effort to wax the car at least once per year with Turtle Wax Black Box (for black cars only). I strongly recommend it.
  • Fully carpeted (including trunk). No vinyl on the floor.
  • Wheels. Vehicle comes with the “dog dish” aluminum wheel covers on steel wheels. Also included is the alternate “appearance package” wheel covers that provide a civilian look, and the wheel bolts to mount them (they require different height wheel bolts vs. the dog dish covers). To repeat, you will receive 2 sets of wheel covers and 2 sets of wheel bolts (one set being mounted to the vehicle).  [$300]

Performance Mods

  • Pedders adjustable suspension for improved handling and ride. All 4 corners replaced w/Pedders XA coilovers. Also includes the following items: Pedders EP2113 LX Bump Steer Correction Kit; EP6567 LX Front Radius Rod Bush; EP6568 LX Front Lower Control Arm Bush; EP1172 Rear Sub-frame Bushings). [$1,990 + labor]
  • Raybestos Police brake rotors and pads (all 4 corners). Full brake system flush and bleed with DOT4 synthetic fluid. [$1,200]
  • SRT8 exhaust (COMPLETE system - headers, pipes, cats); the exhaust tips are custom. [$1,600]
  • PVC oil catch can bypass/trap (prevents oil from re-circulating through PVC valve). [$55]
  • K&N performance air filter and AirRaid CAI (cold air intake) bypass system  [$350]

Police/Law Enforcement

Most LE equipment has been partially disabled or removed. Regardless, if listed here then it is included. The front and rear wig-wags may be returned to operation very easily. Air horn works. Siren capability disconnected but can be made operational with some know-how and wiring and/or installation work.

  • Wig-wags front and rear enabled (with override switch to prevent unauthorized operation)
  • Whelen Beta 112R Siren Amp (currently air horn ONLY but can be modified for full siren capabilities, radio repeat, and PA) [$150]
  • Whelen SA315 Siren Speaker (behind front fascia) [$170]
  • Whelen Mirror-Beam LED lights (one red, one blue). Pre-fitted to OEM side mirrors currently sitting in a box. Basically, with this car you get 2 sets of OEM heated side mirrors: the ones on the vehicle now, and these parts in a box. Vehicle is pre-wired from mirror housing in side doors to trunk.  [$400]
  • Whelen flasher module for strobe, LED lights. Can be connected in trunk to wiring for the Mirror-Beams.  [$100]
  • Federal Signal 6 LED Traffic Advisor light bar (controller not included)  [$150]
  • Whelen after-market wiring harness kit for 2008-2010 Dodge Charger police package. In the event you wish to re-wire the wires under the center console, I am including this installer kit that attaches directly to the factory wiring connectors under the center console  [$150]
  • RAM Tele-pole mounting system (vehicle mount, vertical pole, mount base)  [$226]
  • RAM powered Panasonic ToughBook Powered docking station for ToughBook models CF-29/CF-30/CF-31  [$485]
  • Panasonic ToughBook CF-29 laptop computer (included; excellent shape and works)  [$500]
  • Panasonic Arbitrator camera system: installed front mounted dash cam, GPS, all cable wiring (including GPIO/Accessory and Control Panel cables routed to center console area). NO recorder is included (was working but has been removed for this sale), but all wiring is present including power cable for recorder. The wires for recorder are on driver side trunk area.
  • Network cable (Arbitrator to ToughBook laptop mount)
  • Havis first responder type center console [$485 + install]
  • 5-11 Light-for-Life Model 401 rechargeable flash-light. Hard-wired install on passenger side of center console. Heavy-duty. Water resistant (rain). Recharges in 90 seconds. Great duty light. [$150 + install]
  • ShoMe 6-position rocker switch panel w/integrated fuses, mounted in center console. This currently controls front/rear wig-wags, hidden radar detector, and camera system.  [$120]
  • Havis lighter plug outlet (4x) console faceplate  [$40]
  • Havis armrest for console w/hinge  [$80]

  • ICOM wiring from trunk interior to center console and external speaker (under driver seat)  [$85]
  • Additional external speaker under driver seat routed to center console
  • Rear parking sensors (automatically activate when vehicle is in reverse)  [$250]
  • Upgraded stereo system speakers (after-market)  [$700]
  • Upgraded OEM stereo with Sirius satellite (subscription not included)  [$500]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mechanical History

  • Religious oil changes (mostly Mobil 1 Full Synthetic) w/Bosch or Mobil-1 oil filters
  • Brake, power steering (synthetic), radiator fluids replaced at approx. 20,000 miles
  • RedLine Si-1 Fuel System Cleaner every 3,000 miles or 6 months; RedLine part # 60103
  • These are the mileage (or dates when I don’t have mileage recorded) when various mechanical items were performed. Receipts are available for major mods/upgrades. These items were optional. I chose to do them because I love this car!

200 miles         Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic
2,729 miles      Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic
6,258 miles      Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic
9,862 miles      Motorcraft 5W-20 Full Synthetic (08/04/2011)
12,314 miles     Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic
15,838 miles      Oil change Amsoil full synthetic, Bosch oil filter
All 4 brake rotors replaced with Raybestos Police Rotors (part numbers 780256P front / 780395P rear)
All 4 brake pads replaced with Raybestos Police (part numbers ATD1057AP / ATD1058P)
Main brake lines flushed and refilled with Super Blue Racing Fluid (DOT 4)
18,492 miles      Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic (05/27/2013)
20,215 miles      Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic
22,755 miles      Oil change Mobil1 full synthetic

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Removed/Missing Parts

  • Spare tire holder bracket (spare wheel included)
  • Tire jack
  • Spare tire holder removed because it takes up most of the trunk space and makes it impossible to haul most suitcases, bags
  • Tires in fair condition (original tires)
  • Plastic cover under front cowl removed. After much research and being tired of removing this piece to perform oil changes, etc., I removed it as it seemed to serve no useful purpose. That was at under 10k miles and I’ve had no issues with removing this part. If you wish to replace it, I have the bolts and you can source the plastic cover from a Dodge parts store. Personally, I would leave it as-is.
  • Antenna holes in the trunk (3) as mentioned elsewhere. Two are currently capped and one has a high UHF / cellular freq antenna mounted currently (700/800/900/1700 mhz), which will convey with the vehicle. One of the 3 holes is plugged, but there is a NFO connector just underneath the plug, in the trunk lid, that can be accessed easily. All 3 are wired (2 to the trunk area, 1 to the center console)
  • Normal wear on paint from normal driving (yes, I have waxed the vehicle at least annually and sometimes more frequently, but again this car is driven - it’s not in a museum)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Imperfections

Every used car has some kind of imperfections (heck, even many new cars do). This is a list of ALL imperfections, defects, problems, or anything wrong with this car, that I am aware of. I offer no warranty of any kind and this vehicle is being sold "as is." That being said, the Powertrain Warranty from Dodge DOES transfer to the buyer and is good for 5 years or 100,000 miles.

1. Front quarter panel, driver side. Top of panel, on the crease. There is a small dent (see photo). Hardly noticeable.  You don't see it unless you know it's there.

2. A few light scratches on the driver side rear door. This is a common area to find scratches on used police cars (especially Chargers). Typically, these are caused by the officer's gun belt sliding against the door panel as he/she enters or exits the vehicle. In my case, these marks were caused by my pocket knife, which has a clip on the outside of my pants. I did notice this issue until recently. They are minor, but they're there.

3. One small nick in the paint on top of the trunk, near one of the antenna mounts. Approximately 1cm or less in length and approximately.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excluded Items (may be shown in pics)

1. Halotron fire extinguisher. The trunk-mounted fire extinguisher mount/clip will remain, but the extinguisher itself does not convey.

2. Panasonic Arbitrator recorder (mentioned previously)

3. Satellite radio subscription (you can easily sign yourself up if you want w/Sirius radio).

If you have any questions or would like to see any other pictures, please ask!!!

Brits recreate iconic Bullitt chase scene

Tue, 13 May 2014

Recreating the famous chase scene from Bullitt has become almost an art form in its own right. We've seen it done in a music video, with scale models and even in commercials. There are few films that are as defined by a single scene as the 1968 classic. Even if you don't know a single beat of the plot, the Highland Green Ford Mustang racing a Dodge Charger through the hilly streets of San Francisco is famous. It's so well known that the Silverstone Classic has created a homage to promote its celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang at this year's event in July.
Filmed around the famous UK circuit, the short film generally gets the key points of the scene right. It even has a green Volkswagen Beetle that keeps reappearing, as in the movie. Unfortunately, its Steve McQueen stand-in looks a little too old for the role. While the video shortens the chase considerably, it's still great to see these '60s behemoths leaning and sliding around the track. Scroll down for a touch of nostalgia thanks to one of the greatest scenes ever in cinema - we've got both the recreation and the original chase seen from the movie waiting for you.

2015 Dodge Challenger looks fresh, still plenty retro [w/video]

Thu, 17 Apr 2014

It was the Ford Mustang that kicked off the retro-styled muscle car renaissance back in 2005, but it was the Dodge Challenger that served as the movement's poster child, with its unabashedly retro looks. Over the years, though, as the Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro were freshened and upgraded, the look of the big Dodge has remained largely consistent since its 2008 debut. For 2015, the Challenger has received a big freshening, boasting strongly revised front and rear ends and (finally, finally, finally) a redesigned interior.
Let's talk about that new cabin first. It's basically been plucked directly from the redesigned Charger, and boasts the same seven-inch IP display. The center stack's miserable, last-gen display has been replaced by an expansive, 8.4-inch UConnect system. Material quality should see a solid boost with the new cabin, as well.
The exterior, meanwhile, sees a revised front fascia with LED halo lights, as well as new grille inserts. A functional shaker hood scoop is a must-have extra on the V8 models, while the back of the car is highlighted by a new set of LED taillights that don't use the "Racetrack" design of Dodge's other models.

What's the deal with Chrysler demanding colleges crush their Vipers? [w/video]

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Students and teachers at a Washington community college are up in arms following an order from Chrysler that it must destroy the pre-production Dodge Viper that was donated to the school's automotive technology program ten years ago.
The Viper in question is said to be the fourth off the production line, based on its VIN, and has had its emissions controls disabled, allowing its ten-cylinder engine to produce 600 horsepower, according to a report from Yahoo! Autos. As one of the first Vipers ever produced, the school's AT instructors claim it could be worth $250,000 in a museum, while a local news report purports that Jay Leno once tried to purchase the car, but the sale was prevented by Chrysler.
As pointed out by our friends at Autobytel, though, there are a lot of things in this story that don't quite add up. Immediately noticeable from the news report embedded below - which shows the car at South Puget Sound Community College - is that the car in question is not a 1992 model. When the Viper went on sale in 1992, it was only available as an RT/10 with a (flimsy) soft top, like the red car shown above. But the car featured in the report from KING5 News (inset image) is clearly a hardtop Viper GTS, which didn't enter production until 1996. And even if, as reported by a local newspaper, the hardtop featured is a prototype, it doesn't explain the lack of another iconic feature of the first Vipers - their distinctive side pipes. This kind of pokes holes in the school's argument that this is the fourth Viper to ever roll down the line. At best, this appears to be a pre-production Viper GTS.
