We bought this VERY rough 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T as a new restoration project. It is a true R/T that came with a factory 440. It is in very poor shape, so let's get that out of the way first. The entire floor pan from the trunk through and including the firewall, frame rails and inner fender rails needs to be replaced because of rust. It is also missing the windshield. Someone in the past put 2 new quarter panels on it as well as front fenders but we do not know their condition. We bought it as a disassembled mess and have cleaned everything out, sorted the parts and just started the restoration process. All body pan, inner fenders and frame rail parts are available via AMD under Mopar licensing. The following parts are in good shape and usable: doors, roof, trunk lid, hood, door glass, side glass and rear glass are all good. The radiator support and grill area is good and has a matching VIN. The driver's door has a good interior panel and matching VIN tag. We have a clean title and here are the parts that we have begun the restoration with: new door hinges (4), new outer door handles, new hood hinges. We have just completed a Firm-Feel K-Frame restoration for the 440, including powder coating, and rebuilt the entire steering gear and lower control arms and powder coated them. On the interior it does have a Rallye gauge frame in good condition but no gauges, several extra dash frames and a dash pad in rough condition. We are unsure what other parts are there or missing but will provide everything we got.

There is no fender tag but the cowl VIN, door VIN and radiator VIN all match.

The car has an 8 3/4 rear end in unknown condition, a 727 transmission that worked when removed but is not from this car, and a 440 block and heads (it is not from this car) that is at the machine shop being cleaned and tested-condition unknown as of right now, update when I have it. The car must be trailered but does roll. We have an extremely low reserve and have debated parting it out but the fact that it is a true R/T with a 440 stopped us from doing it..You must pick the car up-we won't ship it. The interior, drive train and suspension is totally disassembled. We are selling this car as well as our other fully restored cars-a 1970 Hemi Charger R/T and a 70 Superbird and shop building as we are leaving the automobile arena. The other cars and Mopar shop will be listed separately April 15.

We reserve the right to end the auction early.

Dodge Challenger spied exercising supercharged Hellcat Hemi V8

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

One of the prime complaints against the Dodge Challenger is that, even in SRT8 guise, its 470 horsepower is responsible for hauling over 4,200 pounds of vehicle. For comparison, the 420 hp in the Ford Mustang GT only has to deal with 3,618 lbs. Things only get worse from there, as the higher-performance variants of both the Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro are far more powerful than an SRT8 without adding on much heft.
So what is Chrysler to do? The correct answer is add a whole lot more grunt to its hefty two-door and even the odds. That's where the all-new Hellcat engine comes into play. We reported on this engine in May, and suggested that the Hellcat, a supercharged powerplant based on a 6.4-liter V8, would easily generate 500 to 570 hp and could likely arrive boasting more than 600 ponies.
Chrysler's ace in its sleeve has now been spied testing, with a number of Hellcat-equipped Challengers running the potent new engine both in more urbanized areas and under the sun of Death Valley. The hoods on these testers have been raised to accommodate the engine, and that camouflage over the fascias of these prototypes is there to hide a larger air intake. We also note what appears to be a new split grille under wraps. As for power output, our spies are now suggesting a Viper-equalling 640 hp from the Hellcat-equipped cars.

Jay Leno's Dodge Challenger raises $585k for USO in Scottsdale

Mon, Jan 19 2015

Of all the metal moved in Scottsdale, AZ, this holiday weekend, the one you see here was hardly the most expensive. But it's noteworthy for another reason: despite being a relatively humble, second-hand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, raised an impressive $565,625. That's because, first of all, it belonged to Jay Leno, and secondly because the proceeds were going to the USO. Leno donated the modern muscle car from his collection to benefit our men and women in uniform, and was on hand to present the car on stage at the Gooding & Company auction, along with USO president J.D. Crouch II and former Army chief of staff General George W. Casey, Jr. After frenzied and patriotic bidding, the gavel ultimately dropped at $360,000, accompanied by over $200,000 in additional contributions, bringing the total amount donated to the USO to over half a million. Commendable though it was, of course the Challenger didn't garner the highest bids at the auction. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider sold for $7.7 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS fetched $2.4 million. A rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupe Aerodinamico sold for over $4,070,000 – which, according to Sports Car Market, is the most ever paid at auction for a 400 Superamerica. And a 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 also sold for a record $1.98 million. Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
