This first year 280Z is not restored. It is in stunning survivor, 100% original condition. Likely the nicest, lowest mile example in the country and certainly the nicest available on the market today. This one is for the discriminating collector looking for the very best. Bought new by the recently deceased original owner for his new bride Vicky in 1975. Custom engraved 'Vicky' gear shift knob has been on the car since new and only recently replaced with the original Z 4 speed knob. All records, original sales invoice, original Datsun owner guaranty card, and title substantiate original ownership and are all included. Original key, dealership key ring, owners manual, service booklet, dealership vinyl document pouch, and dealer installed upgraded cassette deck owners manual are included, and in mint original preserved condition. Car itself is absolutely breath taking. Your eyes can't almost believe what they are seeing. I have never in my life seen a metallic original paint look this fantastic. Only due to the full time indoor storage, and extremely low use did it survive like this. No cloudiness, cracking, chipping or thin spots. Paint is amazing. Body is laser straight with a few very minor misc. dings that would easily be fixed with paintless removal (too minor and small to even bother with if it were me and only mentioned at all in the interest of full disclosure). Interior is a mind blower. Still smells new! Flawless dash, carpets, seats, door panels, headliner, rear panels, etc. No fading, stains, or scratches. every, light, heater, lever, wiper, etc works like new. This is an a/c car in it works. Could likely use a charge. 1 extremely small tear the size of quarter exists at the bottom, lower driver side seat back (pictured). You can't even see it unless you look for it and lift on it. Absolutely amazing. Original unused spare tire. Car cover included. Engine compartment is extremely clean and tidy. original engine compartment torpedo light works of course. Just hard to come up with enough new descriptive words to keep from sounding redundant, but under the hood is amazing. The kind of condition every nook and cranny of this car is in can not be duplicated short of a frame off, nut and bolt restoration....and this one is original! The fun only starts at appearance, this car is a turn key, ready to drive, E ticket blast from the past driving experience and needs nothing. Drives as strong and precise as you remember them when they were new. Fast, nimble, and smooth. Flies down the freeway at todays speeds with none of the 30+ year old wind noises, rattles and freeway wondering you might expect. Shifting is also tight and responsive in and out of all 4 gears and reverse with no fussy down shifts, grinding or popping out of gear. Clutch is firm and precise with no hint of slipping. Always maintained at a premium level, this Z car feels almost new behind the wheel. I could go on and on, but take a look at the 118 images here first and feel free to call or email with all follow up questions: http://s761.photobucket.com/user/car-reras/library/280z (916) 813-2124. DRD Motor Trade is a licensed bonded CA dealer specializing only in the nicest, 1 owner survivor cars like this one. Nissan IDx Nismo and IDx Freeflow concepts are a bridge to the Datsun 510
Wed, 20 Nov 2013We're not sure if someone from The Adjustment Bureau stopped by Nissan's PR department to explain the IDx Nismo and IDx Freeflow concepts, but the company's odd press release can't diminish our love for these two show favorites. We had been told to look out for an unnamed Datsun 510 BRE homage, and once we saw the brothers IDx, we knew we'd found them. But the press release doesn't mention anything about the Datsun 510 Brock Racing Enterprises, nor does it mention one Mr. Peter Brock, the man who won two Trans-Am championships in the Seventies for the nascent Japanese budget brand.
Instead, it declares that the cars were the result of a co-creation product development process with "digital natives," said natives being the whippersnappers born after 1990. Nissan says it worked with the young'uns to create two different expressions of "their desire for a basic, authentic configuration for a car." If that's true, it appears that what the kiddies really want are... two different homages to the Datsun 510 BRE that Peter Brock used to win two championships in the seventies for the nascent Japanese brand.
The IDx Freeflow - the "ID" is for "identification," the "x" is "the variable representing the new values and dreams born through communication" - takes the casual approach, with a light khaki exterior hue, a minimalist interior decked out in denim and a console shifter that works a continuously variable transmission. The IDx Nismo is out for blood, from its crimson interior to its five-point harness to its bolt-on flares and sidepipes. We aren't told what the digital natives requested for powerplants, but that's alright; if this is what "co-creation" looks like, we're not entirely against it except where that "CVT" is involved.
First new Datsun in decade sketched, set for Indian reveal
Mon, 01 Jul 2013Nissan's Datsun nameplate revival will begin with two models bound for the Indian market. Nissan has released sketches of a five-door hatchback based on the Micra (codenamed K2) and a top-down view of a hood that could potentially be from a sedan.
The company's press release says all will be revealed on July 15 in New Delhi, India. The Datsun lineup will be first offered in 2014 to that country's ride-deprived residents as well as Indonesia and Russia. Later in 2014, South Africa will join the list.
We've heard Nissan plans for Datsuns to share platforms with company-owned Lada. In January, we heard the projected price tag could be around $3,000 USD to compete with Chinese imports. The official press release (which can be read in full below) says nothing about either of these reports, however.
37K miles in a 1967 Datsun Roadster
Tue, 11 Mar 2014When we think of comfy, long-distance road cars, there are a few obvious choices. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Bentley Continental GT or, assuming fuel efficiency isn't paramount, a Range Rover are all good options for a road trip. But what if that road trip was 37,000 miles? Maybe something more reliable but still comfortable, then, like a Honda Accord. What about a 1967 Datsun Roadster?
As insane as it sounds, Scott Fisher is doing just that, running a Datsun 1600 Roadster across North America and racking up 13,500 miles in his first three months on the road. His total journey will see him pile over 37,000 miles on his red convertible. The car is lightly modified, but most of the work is for the sake of reliability and comfort, with a five-speed manual 'box, an upgraded radiator and electronic ignition.
Fisher's trip hasn't been all smooth, with a few typical bits of trouble. He also ran into some deer in Utah, quite literally, clipping one of the animals, which delivered quite a bit of damage to the passenger's front fender (hence the rear three-quarter view in our lead shot). Still, the car seems to be holding up well, as shown in this latest video from Petrolicious.
