Datsun 240z - 1973 Excellent Condition on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:105600
Location:

Houston, Texas, United States

Houston, Texas, United States

Excellent condition, completely restored 1973 240Z. Most of the restoration was done approximately 2-3 years ago. Car was disassembled and restored including new paint. Has new door and rocker panels, new floor, new firewall. There is NO rust anywhere. Very minimal bondo (bring a magnet!). New windshield, all new weather striping including all doors and windows and quarter window inner and outer. Complete new interior with correct seat covers and carpet. Dash cover, new seat belts, all gauges work perfectly, all electrical is in perfect working order. All bulbs are new, all lens gaskets are new. All lights and lenses are excellent. New modernized headlights.Rechromed bumpers and bumper guards with all new rubber strips. Rebuilt engine with new hoses, water pump,  alternator, fan clutch, belts. Motor, transmission and differential mounts are new. New camshaft and followers. New header (only non correct part on car). Complete underside suspension has been removed, glass beaded and rebuilt with all new urethane bushings, all wheel bearings, all seals, ball joints, all u-joints are new, KYB struts, strut mounts, tie rods, steering rack. Has camber kits for perfect alignment.( I have the printout). ALL brake parts are new from master cylinder, brake booster, brake hoses to calipers and wheel cylinders. New full exhaust with resonator.New wheels and tires. Correct wheels and hubcaps with new Goodyear tires available as well. Has original A/C with new upgraded compressor, new hoses, new expansion valve and drier and upgraded more powerful blower motor, works VERY well.

Most of the above was completed prior to April, 2012. Additional upgrades since then include the front and real spoilers, wheels and tires, upgraded radio, speakers including a couple small 6" subs recessed in the body behind the seats and amplifier. New headlights, new battery and new triple row radiator. Car drives great, alignment is perfect.

Known flaws:

A few tiny chips in the paint. (front hood area and not noticable unless you search for them)

Small imperfections in the interior. No tears in the seats but a few places around the door seals etc. Lots of the original interior is still in place and looks older. Pictures are pretty accurate.

Clock time is fine for about a full day. Longer than that its unreliable.

The dash is a cover not the original. Very hard to notice the difference.

The rubber seal around the tailgate is new and it takes a little more than normal push to latch due to the fresh seal. Same for the passenger door.

Spare tire is old. Likely not road worthy. (4 of the original new tires and rims included. One could be used for the replacement)

Starts when cold but takes a few minutes to warm up. I would say its driveable after about 3-4 minutes.

I never got around to repairing the intermittent wipers or the wiper fluid squirters.

During some of Houstons hot days, if stuck in traffic it will occasionally hesitate a bit until you get back up to speed and the engine gets some fresh air. The new triple row radiator keeps the temperature from overheating. The temperature guage stays close to middle. The hesitation is more annoying than anything else. It doesnt stop running, just bucks a little when really hot. Hard to describe. I would assume a carb adjustment of some sort would correct it.

Overall

The car is really cool. Hard to park anywhere without people walking over to chat about it. Thumbs up constantly from other drivers. It's been a lot of fun driving it. I've kept it parked inside at my office and have driven it once or twice a week at lunch for the past year and a half ish. I'm selling because owning it was on my bucket list and I'm going to trade for the next bucket list car now.

Feel free to ask me any questions prior to bidding. My preference is to be brutally honest to avoid any misunderstandings after the sale.

Roadkill pits every project car against each other

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.

Meet the man who took a year sabbatical to drive his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

A quiet drive in the country can be the most relaxing thing in the world. What if it didn't have to end, and you could keep driving for a week, a month or even a whole year? That's what Scott Fisher is doing by taking a one-year sabbatical from work and driving his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster around North America.
"I had owned a manufacturing business in Las Vegas for 16 years. I knew I needed to kinda' get out, and unwind, and get my mojo back," said Fisher.
Fisher's trip has covered over 30,000 miles through 44 states and 7 Canadian Provinces, and it is not over yet. He left from his home in Las Vegas, NV, last spring and drove to the Pacific. From there, he drove up the coast to the Canadian border and aimed the car for the Atlantic. He just posted on his blog about visiting the Nissan headquarters and museum in Franklin, TN, and his next stops are Mississippi and New Orleans, LA.
