1977 DATSUN 280Z "GNOSE" CONVERSION
Just in time to catch the end of the summer…. This is one of my projects, and its time to let it go! I've included photos to show the process as I completed her. I started with a super clean 1977 Datsun 280Z, with the goal of taking it to as close to a JDM Gnose Z as I can. The car has been gone through, and is in great running condition. Transmission shift is solid and clean. Flaws: *( there isn't much ) The only minor negatives…. #1: a small dent in the passenger rear quarter, just above the marker light *( see photo ).. of course, like all car guy's, it was someone else who christened the car with a first dent for me. :-/ #2: Dash cap warped a bit from the sun… This is going to done before its sold, but figured I'd mention it from the photo's you can see it. I left it in the sun on a hot day, and came back to find it that way. *****This will be replaced prior to sale!***** The car is in great condition, and can be driven or showed the way it is. Here is the list of what has been done in the last year: New Yellow Paint ( Matching color OE…. body totally straight, NO RUST IN BODY FOUND ) New Blk Carpet interior Full "Z Car Customs-JDM" Gnose Conversion w/ CF front Bumper (Custom) Gnose Hinges ZG Lens Convers "Z Car Customs-JDM" ZG 14" Hubcaps ( Correct from Japan ) Chrome Fender Mirrors ( Correct from Japan ) JDM Rear Taillights (Correct from Japan) Rear 240Z Bumper Conversion Rear Tow Bracket New Door/Hatch seals. New fan clutch New Wires New Plugs New oil Custom Alternator Bracket - "Z Car Customs-JDM" Injector seals replaced Complete tune-up *( Just completed ) New Brakes all around New Fuel pump w/ relay wiring circuit New Clear Marker Lights New Turn Marker in Headlight buckets ( Custom ) Short Air intake ( Custom ) New EGR block off plate Vented hood New Locks in Doors New Shifter Bushing All gauges work (YES>>CLOCK WORKS!!!….. yah, really!!) New Dash Cap New retractable antenna *(There is no stereo installed ) New Billet/Black aluminum CNC knobs t/o car with "Z" symbol *( ie hood handle, turn signal handle, lock knobs, shift knob..) I'm sure theres something I've forgotten, but I tried to touch on everything. The only thing you could do to the car, is get some new tires soon. They have a lot of tread left, but show some weather Checking in the tread area. They were on there when I bought the car several years ago. With the sale of the car, I will include a "DATSUN" incandecent Meatball Logo Sign. The car is ready to drive… I've had fun showing, but I want to move on to the next project. Title is in hand, and ready for transfer. Drive Video: You can see a drive video of this car on Facebook…. Search: Z Car Custom's - JDM I've listed initial photo's showing the beginning of the car, and the transition to Gnose. I will submit more final project photos as I get them loaded up… So Stay tuned!! |

Datsun officially reborn with Go model for India [w/video]
Mon, 15 Jul 2013In March of 2012, Nissan announced the return of its historic Datsun brand. Datsun used to represent the Nissan brand in a number of markets, but its badge hasn't been worn on a new model since 1981. In 2013, though, it has been relaunched as the Japanese manufacturer's budget offering in the emerging markets of India and Russia.
The model that will lead that charge, at least in India, is the Go, a car that pays tribute to the very first Datsun, the DAT-GO.
The operative term with the Datsun brand is: "budget offering." Don't step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals (it's being sold in India, after all). The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the five-speed manual and the center stack above it are rather barren. It's not without luxuries, though, as iPod-style connectivity is available through a Mobile Docking Station.
Datsun debuts new seven-seat Go+ in Indonesia [w/video]
Wed, 18 Sep 2013The Datsun name may have long since been replaced by Nissan, but the old brand is making a comeback - in certain markets, at least. Nissan relaunched the Datsun brand in July as its new budget brand for developing markets with the debut of the Go hatchback, and has now followed up with the addition of the larger Go+.
Set to be built in Indonesia at Nissan's plant in Purwakarta, the Go+ debuts today in the capital of Jakarta as the second model in the new Datsun lineup. The seven-passenger minivan features flexible seating in a compact form 13 feet long, powered by an unspecified 1.2-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Nissan isn't saying much else about the model, but hopes the new Datsun twins will account for half of its sales in Indonesia within three years. The low price target for both models - set to come in at less than 100 million rupiah ($8,700) - ought to help it get there. The lineup is then scheduled to reach other markets, starting with India, Russia and South Africa next year.
Roadkill pits every project car against each other
Sat, 22 Feb 2014The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.
