1972 Datsun 240z - No Reserve - Professionally Restored on 2040-cars
Stratford, Connecticut, United States
1972 Datsun 240z - No Reserve - Professionally Restored Up for sale is a professionally restored 1972 Datsun 240z. I am the second owner of the car and I have records and receipts back to 1975. I purchased the car in 2009 and had it shipped from California where it lived all of its life. This is a rare original rust free 240z that hasn’t required any body restoration. Since I have owned the car it has always been stored in a garage and cared for. This is a great opportunity for a Z lover or classic car enthusiast to complete the car or simply enjoy it as is. The car currently has only 400 miles on a complete mechanical restoration which includes a restored and upgraded suspension, new L24 engine, 5 speed transmission, rebuilt carbs, rebuilt brakes, painted engine bay, wheels, new tires and more. Vinny Bedini from Bedini Motorsports in Connecticut professionally and lovingly restored all of the mechanicals in 2011. Vinny Bedini has over 40 years experience building Datsun race cars and with Datsun restorations. The car has sat in a garage since then. The car has all new mechanicals, starts right up, has a great exhaust growl and drives like a champ. I drove the car today (6/1) and it was a blast. The interior and exterior on the other hand need attention. This is a 42 year old car that has a fresh mechanical restoration but needs cosmetic attention. All of the mechanicals were professionally redone and the car runs and drives great. Just to be clear, the drivetrain and mechanicals are fully assembled. This car runs and drives great. I included a pic of the empty engine bay for reference only. Check out the video in the link below to see the car running now. Here is a link to more pictures and a video of the car: http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/72Datsun240z/library/ Exterior The paint on the car needs attention. Some people like it as is, my intention was to paint the car blue. As you will see in the pictures there are blemishes and flat grey paint all over the car. The engine bay was freshly painted blue which you will see in the pictures. Interior The interior of the car needs attention. The panels and carpet are in very worn shape. The dashboard has a crack and currently has a dashboard cap in place. The dials and gauges work. The floorboards are in perfect original condition with no rust. The tools and original steering wheel will be included with the car. There is an aftermarket radio and speakers in the car which are worn out and need to be replaced. There is a short shifter in the car which is fun to drive. The car does not have AC. Suspension The entire suspension was redone. All parts were removed, sand blasted and powder coated. All bushings were replaced with polyurethane. Tokico shocks and lowering springs were installed. The car has a nice low stance but is still comfortable to drive. Wheels & Tires 15x7 SSR Formula Mesh wheels & Kumho tires are on the car. The tires have 95% tread left on them and look brand new. The wheels are rare and in excellent condition. Drivetrain & Exhaust The car has a new/refurbished L24 six cylinder engine with an E31 head, rebuilt round top SU carbs, and an upgraded 5 speed transmission. The transmissions shifts smoothly. The clutch has 95% life left and is very responsive. The header was ceramic coated and the complete exhaust is a new MSA unit which has a great growl. The original rear diff was serviced as well. Brakes The car has upgraded front disc brakes and refurbished rear drum brakes. The brake master cylinder, disc calipers, disc pads and rear drums, drum shoes and drum hardware were replaced. List of Replaced Parts Here is a list of parts that were replaced on the car. Clutch Master Cylinder
Brake Hardware Kit Duralast Battery MSA Exhaust Title I have an NY transferrable registration in hand. That is all you will need to transfer ownership to your name. Roadkill pits every project car against each other
Sat, 22 Feb 2014The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.
Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano
Wed, 15 Oct 2014When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.
Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]
Wed, 05 Feb 2014Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.
