1970 Datsun 240Z Sports Coupe

Factory A/C
4-Speed
56,308 original miles
VIN # HLS30-05222
Early Production 6/70

This 1970 Datsun 240Z Sports Coupe is an original, early production 6/70, unrestored "survivor" with absolutely NO RUST and one repaint in the correct paint #904 Kilimanjaro White. It was sold new in Georgia, cherished by its two previous owners and has never been a "daily driver".

The original 2.4 liter 6-cylinder engine is 100% factory stock and unmodified. It still retains its original E31 cylinder head, dual Hitachi round-top carburetors and factory air cleaner assembly. The engine starts easily, quickly settles into a smooth idle and pulls cleanly through the rev range under acceleration. There are no mechanical issues..... no smoke, no leaks, no noises. The factory 4-speed manual transmission shifts effortlessly.  The car starts, runs and drives without drama of any kind.

The factory A/C system blows cold air.  A/C high pressure hose and receiver drier were replaced and refrigerant recharged in 2004.

The following maintenance has been performed on the car in the last few years:  Replaced front brake pads, rotors, calipers and brake lines.  Flushed brake fluid.  Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, water pump, radiator fan clutch, engine belts and battery.  Installed new front & rear KYB shocks.  Installed new Yokohama Avid tires on new Panasport wheels.

The car has a well preserved interior with reclining bucket seats in the correct and original upholstery. The original dashboard and center console are in excellent condition with no cracks. The factory tachometer and speedometer operate properly as do the gauges for oil pressure, amperes and coolant temperature. The original wood rim steering wheel, interior panels and headliner are also in excellent condition. The factory radio is still installed and functional. Overall, a very nice and correct early interior.

The body of the car retains all its original body panels and is in great condition with no dents or dings. The car had the "Ziebart Rustproof Protection" process applied when new and retains all the original yellow plugs in the door jambs and rear hatch area to cover the holes drilled to complete the rustproofing process.  I can find no evidence of previous body damage, body repair or rust. One older respray in the correct Kilimanjaro White paint was done years ago and is beginning to show its age.  Two very small sections of paint are beginning to "lift" at the right rear quarter panel behind the fuel filler door. The chrome bumpers are in great original condition with no pitting. All glass is original and in good condition.  As mentioned above, the car has been fitted with brand new Panasport alloy wheels......the one and only deviation from factory stock configuration.

Overall, an incredibly well-preserved, gently driven, original spec, early production car with no excuses.  After owning, cherishing and enjoying the car for 10 years and 6936 miles the time has come to sell.  The car is available for viewing, by appointment, at my home in Naples, Florida.

The car will be sold to the highest bidder @ NO RESERVE.

I reserve the right to end this auction at any time as the car is currently for sale locally.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."

Fiat contemplating sub-brand to compete with Dacia, Datsun

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

You can add Fiat to the admittedly short list of automakers considering a low-cost brand to rival Dacia. The inexpensive Eastern European brand from Renault-Nissan has performed on the balance sheet like a premium model line, and the money the alliance is taking off the table is encouraging other players to deal themselves in. Pretty soon Nissan's Datsun sub-brand will join the Dacia party, going on sale in Russia, Indonesia and India and will claim even more rubles, rupiahs and rupees for the parent company. Volkswagen recently said it will make a decision this year on a budget line for the Chinese market. With the euthanasia of Lancia and plans to move the Fiat brand upmarket, company CEO Sergio Marchionne wonders aloud to Automotive News Europe whether there could be room for a new budget brand underneath Fiat.
We're told that the initiative has been in the idea box for five years and even moved to the stage of name considerations, like Innocenti, but worries about profit kept it from realization. If such a range were to be developed, Marchionne says it couldn't be built in Italy and stay within budget, and the company is "analyzing its manufacturing capacity outside of Europe to see if a low-cost brand is viable."

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.
