Own a piece of HISOTRY!! This 1970 Datsun 240Z is one of the elusive First 500, built in 1969 as 1970 model year cars. This particular example bears the VIN HLS30-000303, being the 303rd chassis built, and the 290th imported to the U.S. (the first 13 were held by the factory and cut up as quality control cars). This is the genuine article. You can tell that from the pictures. The last picture I added is to show that i am a 240z lover and this car isn't coming from a home that didn't take care of her The mechanical bits on this vehicle are top notch. The engine cost more to build than this car likely will sell for. The transmission and rear LSD are worth nearly two grand if they were to be separated from the car and sold. All of it works perfectly. I have driven this vehicle long distances, and it doesn't miss a beat. If you have good hearing protection, it would make it cross country with no issues. The vehicle is fast, fun to drive, and exhibits very good handling characteristics. If you set the shocks on full soft, it's even pretty comfortable on the street. - Engine:
- Custom built 2.77L I6 using an N42 block with a late 1973 crank, combined with a .020 overbore leaves you with a short-strok 2.7L engine. All machine work performed by Bell Motor Service, Louisville, Kentucky
- Original E31 small-chamber head, fully ported and polished, with larger valves from a 280ZX fitted and unshrouded.
- 11.5:1 compression, runs on pump premium with no knock at any temperature
- Comp Cams 84-135-4 Camshaft. .480" lift intake and exhaust, 292 degrees duration @ .020", 246 degrees @ .050
- Triple Mikuni PH44 twin-barrel sidedraft carburetors
- Holly Red fuel pump
- MSD 6AL ignition using Crane XR700 as an optical distributor pickup
- MSA 6-2 header, ceramic coated by JForman Coatings, Louisville, Kentucky
- MSA 2.5" Mandrel bent exhaust terminating with a Magnaflow stainless steel muffler.
- Large 3-row radiator
- Good for at least 200hp at the crank. Engine put 172.6 hp to the wheels on a Mustang dyno using rebuilt SU carburetors and a smaller MSA camshaft in 2006.
- Drivetrain
- Fidanza aluminium lightweight flywheel
- 1983 280ZX Turbo Clutch assembly
- Borg-Warner T-5 five speed overdrive transmission
- Billet T-5 short shifter assembly
- Custom drive shaft by Republic Diesel of Louisville, Kentucky
- Subaru STi R180 rear differential with clutch-type limited slip, using Beta Motorsports snap-in stub axles to mate to stock halfshafts
- Stock front brakes
- Rear disc brake conversion using 240SX calipers and rotors

- Nitto NT01 competition tires
- Custom coil over suspension using shortened stock strut housings
- Camber plates front and rear
- Techno Toy Tuning adjustable front lower control arms

- Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable dampers on all four corners
- Interior

- Seats from a 1993 Mazda Miata on modified stock sliders
- Autometer Tachometer, volt, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges
- Stock Speedometer
- JVC CD player with MP3/WMA capability and auxiliary input
- Custom rear speaker panel.
- Full sized spare under cargo area subfloor

A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites: 1976-79 Porsche 930, aka 911 Turbo Carrera (above) Photo Credit: Dorotheum

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well - at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections - and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world. Renault believes there is, kind of. Automotive News Europe reports that it will partner with Nissan to build two low-priced cars for emerging markets, one for €3,000 ($3,888 U.S.) and another for €5,000 ($6,400 U.S.). The price of the least expensive offering is nearly $1,400 more than a Nano, which costs $2,500, and that can't be considered a small sum in comparison. But one of the hindsight knocks on the Nano has been that even in emerging markets buyers don't want a car whose biggest lure is that it is cheap; they'd rather give their aspirations a bit more of a workout. Renault's offerings are scheduled to hit the non-Western market in late 2014, which is coincidentally the same year that will see the return of the budget-minded and emerging-market-specific Datsun nameplate. They'll be built in Renault facilities in Chennai, India, with no mention made of Bajaj this time around.
