Up for auction is a very clean and very sharp 1971 Datsun 240Z. The car originally came from California and is very solid. I bought this car from a friend less than a year ago. He's an older gentleman that poured his heart and soul into this car, he spend a lot of money on the car.

I bought the car exactly as you see it but here's what I know about it.

The car has a 280Z motor that was rebuilt and has 4400 mile on it. It has a modified cam and a larger capacity aluminum oil pan. The original 4 speed transmission was replaced with a 5 speed and so were the rear end gears. All are from the 1978, 1979 era. (I have the original motor and rear end gears that go with car but not the original transmission)

Custom bucket seats (I have originals that go with car) The interior is excellent for the year, the passenger sun visor is signed by former race car driver Bob Sharp.

Custom wood steering wheel and shift knob (I have original steering wheel)

16" Panasport Racing Wheels

Custom dash gauges, the new speedometer was installed when the motor was installed and started at zero so this is the mileage since the motor was installed. I'm not positive of the body mileage but I may have the original speedometer showing mileage. I can check if anyone would like to know.

AM/FM CD player with remote control

Has front disc brakes

New shocks, ball joints, tie rods, and alignment.

This is just some of what I know but I can tell you that there are many other new items and I have a box of extra parts, new and old.

The car is very sharp, a real head turner. The engine compartment is beautiful, lots of polished parts and is super clean. The car is very fun to drive, runs great, drives straight, and stops perfect.

It does have a few blemishes that you can see from the pictures and is over 40 years old so if you look hard enough I'm sure you'll find some flaws.

Connecticut does not issue titles on this year vehicle so I will provide the buyer with the previous Connecticut registration and a Q-1 Bill of Sale form. (I never registered car)

Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will be happy to assist with whoever you hire.

Please ask any questions and I will do my best to answer.

Good Luck!

Datsun officially reborn with Go model for India [w/video]

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

In March of 2012, Nissan announced the return of its historic Datsun brand. Datsun used to represent the Nissan brand in a number of markets, but its badge hasn't been worn on a new model since 1981. In 2013, though, it has been relaunched as the Japanese manufacturer's budget offering in the emerging markets of India and Russia.
The model that will lead that charge, at least in India, is the Go, a car that pays tribute to the very first Datsun, the DAT-GO.
The operative term with the Datsun brand is: "budget offering." Don't step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals (it's being sold in India, after all). The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the five-speed manual and the center stack above it are rather barren. It's not without luxuries, though, as iPod-style connectivity is available through a Mobile Docking Station.

Datsun expands low-cost revival with new Mi-Do in Moscow [w/video]

Fri, 29 Aug 2014

Those who were disappointed when Datsun changed its name to Nissan over three decades ago may have been pleased to see the marque revived last year, even as a budget brand. Nissan's counterpart to its ally Renault's Dacia budget brand, Datsun has been steadily expanding its lineup of low-cost transportation for developing markets with the debut of the Go hatchback in India, the Go+ minivan in Indonesia and the On-Do sedan in Russia. And now it has returned to Moscow to reveal its fourth model, the Mi-Do.
Based closely on the On-Do sedan (which itself is based on the Lada Granta) the Mi-Do takes on a five-door hatchback bodystyle but with no more frills. It uses the same front-drive chassis with the same wheelbase as the sedan, but its chopped tail makes it a good foot and a half shorter overall. Into that compact shape, Datsun has fitted dual airbags, ABS and... well, that's about it. It's got a 1.6-liter, eight-valve inline-four kicking out a grand total of 87 horsepower to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Bare bones, this is.
While delivery of the first On-Do sedans commences next month (with the first example going to an IT specialist in Omsk), the Mi-Do is set to begin delivery early next year. Scope out the video and press release below from the Mi-Do's reveal at the Moscow Motor Show.

This father and son duo terrorize the UK countryside in Datsun 240Z pair

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

The Datsun 240Z got a lot of things right when it was introduced, with handsome styling, strong performance and a reasonably affordable price. And while the coupes grew a strong fan base in the US, they remained quite a rarity in the UK. Decades later, a father and son in England have latched onto the car and bonded over their shared love for two completely opposite takes on this Japanese GT
There's already quite a collection of exotics in Mel Streek's garage, and his rat rod 240Z, which he calls the Ratsun, definitely doesn't fit with the rest. On the outside, the Datsun looks ready to fall apart, but it's mechanically perfect underneath. Alternatively, Mel's son, Ollie, has a completely different take for his Z with its perfect, shining paint.
Both Zs sound amazing, though. They have a mechanical, somewhat course exhaust note that's intoxicating to hear. You can definitely tell there's some work going on under the hood. Check out this video from Petrolicious for a father and son who both find something to love in these classic Japanese coupes.
