Here is a beautiful, adult owned, classic Z car from 1972. This isn't one of those period correct, matching number type of cars. However, the modifications were done in good taste and increased performance and drivability dramatically.  It is in fantastic condition and is an absolute blast to drive. The sound of the exhaust note alone is just mesmerizing! Always always garage kept and never driven in the rain. The motor is a balanced and blue printed 2.8L (up from 2.4L) with a 5spd transmission (previously had 4spd). Most of the car has been sorted out prior to my ownership so I can't go into detail about the motor and its specifics. What I can tell you is what I can physically see: There are tuned dual SU carburetors with large aluminum air horns supplying air. There is an MSD 6AL and Mallory distributor under the hood. Taylor high performance spark plug wires. Working inspection light. Optima Red Top battery. The headers are a 6-2-1 design that are wrapped with a performance wrap. Twice pipes (hard to find!) are what makes this car sound so amazing IMO. On the inside, the interior is in great condition with exception to the floor mats. Aftermarket Auto-Meter Pro Comp gauges have replaced the original. The only other indication of a non OEM interior is the beautiful woodgrain and polished stainless steering wheel, a few indicator lights and aftermarket radio/speakers.  This is the kicker, while I cannot confirm if it is or isn't: the dash appears to be original! If it is a dash cap, that is one hell of a dash cap. Either way, it is in gorgeous condition and looks amazing, NO cracks whatsoever. Any Z fanatic knows how hard it is to find or repair one of these.

The previous owner told me the entire front clip is fiberglass, with exception to the bumper of course. There is an MSA front air dam that I had put on just recently. I did have the car re-sprayed just recently in the factory OEM "mexican orange" color as well. It looks stunning and is one of my favorite colors on a Z. Everything else is standard Z issue as far as I know. The battery box is rust free, frame and rails are straight. The floor panels are clean, as is the spare tire wheel well! (original spare is there). Many years of documentation and the original owners manual have been included from when I bought the car, as well as a clear blue title.

The "bad" stuff:
- The SU carbs don't have a choke installed and so starting the motor takes a good 5-10 mins if it hasn't been running in a while. Once the motor is warmed up and running, it starts back up with no problem at all. This is easily remedied by having a choke installed! You can also choose to use starter fluid, convert the motor to EFI or even a triple carburetor setup. I have a set of great condition triple Weber DCOE 40mm carbs in another auction.
- The rear hatch seal could benefit from being replaced. Gas fumes enter the car easily from back here.
- New seat belts need to be added.
- the fiberglass hood is great in that it saves some unnecessary weight, but there is a slight bend in the hood from front to back. This doesn't affect performance or anything, just a personal annoyance to me.
- thats everything I can think of but if I see anything else, I'll be sure to update.

My honest recommendation is to come see it for yourself. Pictures can only say so much, I'm not a professional photographer and I don't have the extra cash to hire someone for that. I'm not a car expert either so I can only say that, although I think this car is in great shape -- I can only show you my experiences through these few words on ebay. I just had a recent tune and look-over from the local Z expert and got a thumbs up. If you see it yourself, you'll definitely get to see everything first hand and HEAR what this motor sounds like. That alone might sell you right there :)

I've decided to go back to school and need to sell off anything unnecessary for my current lifestyle. I will surely miss driving this Z but I guess we all have to make a few sacrifices in life! Hopefully the next owner will take as good of care for her than all of the previous owners did. (whoever they may be)

Shipping arrangements can be made by your choice of auto transport (I like uship) and I will do my best to accomodate you by meeting your shipper, etc etc. but please do so in a timely fashion.

Thanks for looking and best of luck!

Nissan IDx Nismo and IDx Freeflow concepts are a bridge to the Datsun 510

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

We're not sure if someone from The Adjustment Bureau stopped by Nissan's PR department to explain the IDx Nismo and IDx Freeflow concepts, but the company's odd press release can't diminish our love for these two show favorites. We had been told to look out for an unnamed Datsun 510 BRE homage, and once we saw the brothers IDx, we knew we'd found them. But the press release doesn't mention anything about the Datsun 510 Brock Racing Enterprises, nor does it mention one Mr. Peter Brock, the man who won two Trans-Am championships in the Seventies for the nascent Japanese budget brand.
Instead, it declares that the cars were the result of a co-creation product development process with "digital natives," said natives being the whippersnappers born after 1990. Nissan says it worked with the young'uns to create two different expressions of "their desire for a basic, authentic configuration for a car." If that's true, it appears that what the kiddies really want are... two different homages to the Datsun 510 BRE that Peter Brock used to win two championships in the seventies for the nascent Japanese brand.
The IDx Freeflow - the "ID" is for "identification," the "x" is "the variable representing the new values and dreams born through communication" - takes the casual approach, with a light khaki exterior hue, a minimalist interior decked out in denim and a console shifter that works a continuously variable transmission. The IDx Nismo is out for blood, from its crimson interior to its five-point harness to its bolt-on flares and sidepipes. We aren't told what the digital natives requested for powerplants, but that's alright; if this is what "co-creation" looks like, we're not entirely against it except where that "CVT" is involved.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.

First new Datsun in decade sketched, set for Indian reveal

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

Nissan's Datsun nameplate revival will begin with two models bound for the Indian market. Nissan has released sketches of a five-door hatchback based on the Micra (codenamed K2) and a top-down view of a hood that could potentially be from a sedan.
The company's press release says all will be revealed on July 15 in New Delhi, India. The Datsun lineup will be first offered in 2014 to that country's ride-deprived residents as well as Indonesia and Russia. Later in 2014, South Africa will join the list.
We've heard Nissan plans for Datsuns to share platforms with company-owned Lada. In January, we heard the projected price tag could be around $3,000 USD to compete with Chinese imports. The official press release (which can be read in full below) says nothing about either of these reports, however.
